Last but not least: an art in itself

How should a building that houses the University of the Arts be labeled? Frontwork opted for three-dimensional letters made of concrete, profiled sheet metal, Forex and Duripanel as well as a few LED lights. Worth seeing visually.

Simple yet spectacular: a functional font in different materials, partly illuminated with LED lights, guides students and tenants through the corridors of the Toni Molkerei site. The "Areal" font, which was specially designed for the Toni site, is generally used in black on white walls and doors. Important destinations in the building are also marked by black and white striped steel cubes.

In rooms that are open to the public - such as the cinema, bistro or concert hall - the lettering takes on the individual materials of the respective surfaces.

The signage concept for the entire building comes from Bivgraphic. An art in itself, design visualized, worth a walk through the building - or even here viewable. (uma)

Audience Council is enthusiastic about "Musik+" on Radio SRF Virus

The SRG Audience Council for German-speaking Switzerland praises the "Musik+" program on Radio SRF Virus to the skies. It only criticizes one thing: that the programme is not better known. The Audience Council is much less enthusiastic about the radio satire programs.

According to the Audience Council, the programme is characterized by a diverse, "very successful" selection of topics and creative implementation. In a statement on Tuesday, it described "Musik+" presenter Reena Thelly as simply "the ideal cast". Original sounds, interviews and moderation "come across as fun, fresh, attractive and intelligent". The internet presence is uncomplicated and straightforward. All in all, the show is "a hidden gem" that would be worthy of being much better known.

"The only major criticism" is the relative obscurity of "Musik+". The program is broadcast on the last Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7 p.m. on Radio SRF Virus. It features a wide variety of contributions on music, science and pop culture.

Wanted: Humor

The Audience Council is much less enthusiastic about the radio satire programs. More "biting humor" would be appropriate here. However, it is well aware that the appropriate resources would be needed to expand the Satire & Small Art editorial team. Saturday lunchtime programs are predestined for satire. In contrast, the council members felt "somewhat disoriented" with the Wednesday evening programs - "Spasspar-tout", "PET" and live cabaret broadcasts. Sometimes they wished for more wit and more exaggeration. (SDA)

Mediapulse: Radio panel developed further

Mediapulse and GfK are installing a further development in the Radiopanel for improved measurement of longer synchronous broadcasts. All figures for the second half of 2014 are reported correctly.

Mediapulse and GfK have implemented a solution for dealing with extended synchronous broadcasts (identical sound on more than one station) in radio usage research in close consultation with the market and the stations concerned. In essence, the further development is based on an additional rule in the data processing, which improves the assignment of listeners during synchronous sequences: It prevents a listener from being assigned to several stations with synchronous broadcasting, even though he has only heard one of them. This writes Mediapulse in a statement on Tuesday. For this purpose, the system uses additional plausibility checks and earlier usage sequences of the listener. A comparison of all stations also provides a reliable basis for the detection of synchronous broadcasts.

For the data of the second semester 2014, the correction was introduced retrospectively for the affected stations. In the half-year data to be published next week, all stations will therefore be shown correctly. The Energy and BNJ station groups have been recalculated and are available in adjusted form. In the case of the SRF and RTS stations, which were also affected, recalculation was not possible due to technical limitations; they are therefore only shown as a group for the second half of the year. This ensures that no data is published that is influenced by extended synchronous broadcasts.

"With this further development, the Mediapulse Radiopanel once again provides reliable reach data for all stations," the release continues. Mediapulse's semester publication will take place on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 and is already based on adjusted data.

Gemi December 2014: Digital Out of Home with significant decline

At the end of the year, advertising spending is on the rise in the TV and Internet sectors, while digital out-of-home advertising is seeing a significant decline compared to the historic peak in the same month of December 2013.

The development of radio and teletext is also declining. By contrast, the electronic media in general and the market as a whole remain stable. This is shown by the December edition of the Goldbach Index (GEMI) for advertising print in the overall market and the electronic media.

Compared with a strong 2014 as a whole and a historic high in the same month of December 2013, advertising print in the digital out of home segment for December 2014 was down sharply 662 (747). For Willi Meyer, Head of Sales DOOH Goldbach Media (Switzerland), however, this is definitely no reason to complain: "Overall, we are above the previous year in Digital out of Home. The Christmas business started earlier, which is also reflected in the above-average November figures. So in summary, not a decline but a slight improvement in seasonality."

Also down, though significantly lower, was advertising pressure in Radio 400 (405) and Teletext 49 (50).

An increase in advertising pressure was seen at the end of the year for TV 654 (653) and Internet 770 (767). Total electronic media 651 (651) and the overall market remain stable 238 (238).

Last but not least: "Save the climate - let Merkel do it"

The Climate Alliance named Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard as its climate protection patron last year. In view of the WEF in Davos, the saintly "St. Doris" has once again humorously doubled down on the digital channels.

Even if Doris Leuthard does not have her own social media profile and the selfies, messages and side-swipes from "St. Doris" do not come directly from the Federal Councillor, the Climate Alliance's posts are definitely daring. Although the digital channels have not achieved the necessary attention (Facebook: 215 "likes", Twitter: 180 followers), they are no less worthy of mention (uma).

China tightens censorship on the Internet

China has further tightened its internet censorship. Even so-called tunneling services (VPNs), which allow users to bypass the blocks, are currently being severely disrupted by what appear to be improved technical capabilities.

China tightens censorship on the internetLarge providers of VPN connections such as Astrill and Golden Frog reported on Monday that some of their servers were no longer accessible from China. Astrill reported that its transmission protocols for the Apple iOS mobile operating system were "heavily blocked".

Users complained that they could no longer establish tunnel connections with their iPhone or iPad to access blocked websites. Golden Frog reported that many of its servers were "currently no longer accessible" from China. Other VPN services are also affected.

China routinely blocks social networks such as Facebook, Twitter or YouTube and even Google services such as search or GMail. Websites of human rights organizations or various foreign newspapers such as the New York Times or Wall Street Journal are also blocked. Many Chinese people therefore use paid tunnel services to bypass the blockades.

Most recently, China's internet censorship also blocked access to GMail via smartphone email apps. Google withdrew from China in 2010 to avoid having to continue censoring itself. Since then, the authorities have been taking action against Google services. (SDA)

Swiss Retail Federation sues television

The Swiss Retail Federation and Swiss Radio and Television have been arguing for some time about the use of the SRF name. Now the retailers want to force a solution through the courts.

"A complaint has been filed," wrote Andrea Wenger, spokesperson for Swiss Radio and Television, on Monday at the request of the news agency SDA. She confirmed corresponding information from the Blick newspaper. Swiss television changed its name at the end of 2012 - since then it has no longer been called SF, but SRF. This name change was not at all to the liking of the Swiss Retail Federation. It has also abbreviated its name to the three letters SRF since 2000.

The Swiss Retail Federation - formerly known as the Association of Department Stores (VSWK) - has represented the interests of medium-sized and large companies in the Swiss retail trade since 1937. Its members generate an annual turnover of around CHF 12 billion and employ 40,000 people.

No out-of-court solution

At the request of SDA, the association confirmed that it had initiated legal proceedings. "Attempts to resolve the conflict out of court have failed," wrote deputy managing director Dagmar Jenni.

According to Jenni, the origins of the dispute date back to December 2012, when Bruno Frick was still Chairman. The lawsuit is pending before the Commercial Court of Bern. The first hearing is scheduled for February 11, 2015. In order to protect their interests, the retailers do not wish to comment further on the ongoing proceedings.

Written out or as an abbreviation

Television is defending itself against the accusations of brand clauses. "The Swiss Retail Federation appears under its full name and not under the abbreviation SRF, as the stationery shows," wrote spokeswoman Wenger. In addition, the Swiss Retail Federation brand is protected in full and not as an abbreviation. "Therefore, with the best will in the world, we cannot recognize any rights to our abbreviation". Wenger did not provide any further details "due to the ongoing proceedings".

The retail association was initially unavailable for comment on Monday morning. The indictment was also not available for the time being. According to Blick, both parties are due to appear before the Bern Commercial Court on February 11. (SDA)

Man released after threat against Ringier

The man who made threatening phone calls to the Ringier Press House last Wednesday and was arrested has been released. According to the district attorney's office, there are no longer grounds for detention. However, the case is still ongoing.

The spokeswoman for the Zurich public prosecutor's office, Corinne Bouvard, confirmed on Monday a report by Tagesanzeiger.ch/Newsnetz that the 43-year-old had been released. The defendant has confessed. The prosecutor did not request pre-trial detention, Bouvard said. For pre-trial detention to be justified after a confession, there must be a risk of repetition, flight or collusion, for example.

Regardless of whether the man is in custody or not, the prosecutor's office continues to investigate. The man is accused of frightening the public. For this offense, the Swiss Penal Code provides for a prison sentence of up to three years or a fine. (SDA)

Leo Burnett: Around the world with the sun

Betrand Piccard's Solar Impulse airplane receives an additional communications boost from ABB and Leo Burnett Switzerland.

At the end of February, Bertrand Piccard sets off on board the Solar Impulse II for the first round-the-world flight using nothing but solar power. The fact that this flight can take place at all is also thanks to the sustained support of ABB. The collaboration sets an example of how visionary research can push boundaries. And shows what is ecologically possible in the near future.

New smart advertising figure for Yallo

Yallo has completely revamped its brand identity and is introducing a new advertising mascot. A smart ant positions the Swiss prepaid mobile provider as the telecom player with strong offers and clever savings options.

The nationwide ATL campaign "small and strong" runs from January 26 to February 28, 2015. With its new image and unusual advertising figure, Yallo aims to position itself more strongly as the Swiss provider of low-cost mobile telephony abroad. To achieve this goal, Yallo is running an extensive national poster and print campaign under the slogan "small and strong", running from January 26 to February 28.

The revised corporate design and the new advertising presence were developed by the Alpha 245 advertising agency, together with the Yallo marketing and communications department. The overall appearance and brand were refreshed and reduced to essential elements. This puts the products more in the foreground.

"With the ant, we have a clever and strong symbol that gives more personality to the Yallo brand," said Giuseppe Bonina, CEO of YOL Communications.

Vizner Borel: The full load of Porsche

At Christmas, Vizner Borel brought in Porsche Switzerland as a client. Now the first measures can be seen: the comprehensive communication package for the Porsche E-Mobility campaign.

Everyone is talking about e-mobility. Porsche wants to take this into account and shows with the plug-in e-hybrid vehicles what technology is capable of today. Vizner Borel has developed a campaign that highlights the topic of e-mobility, renewable energies and the Porsche E-Hybrid models. With photographs of wind, solar, and hydroelectric power plants. Right in the middle, discreet yet eye-catching: the Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid, the Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid, and the Porsche 918 Spyder.
