Social media secondary for financial sector

Personal recommendations and traditional media have the strongest influence on the reputation of banks. Communication in social networks is significantly less decisive. This is the conclusion of a study from Germany.

In Germany, traditional media (TV, print and radio) are the most important source of information for building and strengthening the reputation of banks. After the traditional media, personal recommendations from friends, acquaintances and family members are the second most important information channel. Social media and advertising follow at a considerable distance. These are selected results of an online study conducted by TNS Infratest between September 26 and October 2, 2014.

A total of 1006 people with an affinity for finance were surveyed in Germany, Switzerland, the UK, the USA and Singapore. The results of the study show that when it comes to banks, information through classic media is far more important than communication in social media. It therefore concludes that classic press relations remain the primary address for financial institutions to strengthen their reputation.

Due to the increasing use of blogs, online forums and social networks, banks are also being discussed more intensively there. The average volume of communication about internationally active banks already exceeds the volume of journalistic reporting in the traditional media many times over. But communication in social media is far less relevant to consumers, who continue to rely on information from TV, print and radio.

This also applies to the younger target group of 18- to 25-year-olds: According to the study, they rely more on recommendations from friends, family and traditional media than on posts in social media or advertising.

A similar ranking emerges when looking at the international results: Personal recommendations are at the top, followed by classic media, social media and advertising. For respondents in Singapore, traditional media are less important. Social media and, above all, personal recommendations play a greater role in the assessment of banks in the Asian country than in Western countries.

"Looking at the content, opinions about a bank are primarily dependent on business developments, followed by the bank's product services. While older people make their opinions about banks even more dependent on business figures, younger people form their opinions relatively more frequently on the basis of the bank's strategic orientation," explains Simon Bisch, Consultant at TNS Infratest.

The leopards among the festival visitors

The 68th Locarno Film Festival pays tribute to a major figure in American cinema: cult director and actor Sam Peckinpah. The accompanying poster series, «The Leopards of Locarno,» was designed by Jannuzzi Smith.

Sam Peckinpah (1925-1984) was described as a "rebel in Hollywood". With films such as The Wild Bunch (1969) - a masterpiece of the western genre - he shaped the popular imagination. He has directed some of Hollywood's biggest stars, such as Dustin Hoffman (Who Sows Violence, 1971), Steve McQueen (Junior Bonner, 1972; Getaway, 1972) and James Coburn ( Pat Garrett chases Billy the Kid, 1973).

Sam Peckinpah tells stories of lonely heroes, of people who rebel against the system and live in a violent world that also harbors poetic moments.

The Leopards of Locarno

The poster for the 68th Festival del Film Locarno was developed by the Jannuzzi Smith agency based on a series of images of festival-goers. The photographic project was realized during the last edition of the festival: Every day, dozens of subjects were photographed, including film lovers, film critics, actors and actresses, directors and other professionals linked to the universe of film and the Festival.

The aim of the project is to discover and make visible the "leopards" who camouflage themselves among the festival-goers. From hundreds of images, around twenty were selected to represent the 68th Festival del Film Locarno.

Radio for gays and lesbians before Valais Gay Pride

Ahead of the Gay Pride event in Sion on June 13, a radio station for gay men and lesbians has been launched in Valais. The organizers also want to address taboo topics and report on how same-sex couples live in Valais.

Vibration Gayradio is broadcast around the clock via the Internet. The radio currently broadcasts music for 90 percent of its program. The proportion of reports, interviews and debates will increase continuously, Jonathan Ruppen, Director of Vibration 108, told the news agency SDA on Wednesday.

The station Vibration 108 was founded by students and has been broadcasting from Flanthey VS since 2003. According to Ruppen, the radio station for gays and lesbians is the realization of an idea that has been lying dormant in the organizers' drawers for several years.

Reports on coming-outs are planned and the aim is to promote mutual understanding, said Ruppen. There will be a live broadcast on the day of Pride. This is the second Gay Pride in Valais. The first took place in Sion in 2001.

There had been massive protests at the time. Since then, the situation has changed, said the director of the radio station. As evidence, he refers to a statement made by the new Bishop of Sion, Jean-Marie Lovey, to French-speaking Swiss radio and television (RTS): "Every person, regardless of their orientation, has the right to maximum respect." Journalist's ban on silence was lawful

Even a member of the media can be ordered to remain silent when questioned as a witness. The Federal Supreme Court has ruled on this matter and dismissed the appeal of a television journalist who had been investigating the Lucerne police scandal.

In 2013, SRF1's Rundschau broadcast video footage showing a violent Lucerne police officer arresting a suspected burglar. Because it was suspected that a person subject to official secrecy had leaked the footage to television, the Lucerne public prosecutor's office launched an investigation against persons unknown.

As part of the investigation, a journalist was summoned as a witness. The public prosecutor's office prohibited him from reporting on the criminal investigation, the interrogation and the information he received during the interrogation or informing third parties until the preliminary proceedings had been concluded. He was also ordered to hand over the video to the public prosecutor's office to secure the material.

The journalist lodged an appeal against the orders of the public prosecutor's office and also criticized the fact that, contrary to his request, the interrogation had taken place without a lawyer. Like the lower court, the Federal Supreme Court dismissed the appeal insofar as it had accepted it. This is evident from the decision published on Wednesday.

No special rule for media people

The court notes that the Code of Criminal Procedure stipulates that witnesses must remain silent. There is no special regulation for members of the media.

The confidentiality order was intended to prevent the establishment of the truth from being compromised. The public prosecutor's office had justified it by arguing that any publication of information from the investigation proceedings or of information that the witness learned during the interrogation could alert the alleged perpetrators.

Like the lower court, the Federal Supreme Court came to the conclusion that the public prosecutor's office had issued the gag order for understandable reasons. It only concerned the preliminary investigation into the breach of official secrecy in relation to the video recordings and did not prevent the journalist from researching and reporting on the police affair. His professional activity was not hindered. (SDA)

Last but not least: Mothers and sluts

For its «Sibale a tu madre» («Whistle at Your Mom») campaign, sports equipment manufacturer Everlast made mothers look younger, dressed them up, and sent them out onto the street. There, they were hit on by their own sons.

The scenes - in which the men are shouted at by their mothers or hit with a handbag - are not real. They are intended to draw attention to sexual harassment on the streets of Lima. The message to the young men: have respect for women. It could be your mother you're harassing. (sis)

Alpha245: Happy films for Wilmaa TV

"Wilmaa offers many more features that sweeten the viewing experience.": To make these known to the general public, Wilmaa Digital World commissioned the Alpha 245 agency to create a television commercial.

At the beginning, the creative team at Letzigraben thought about how they could show the many advantages of Wilmaa without making the film look like a long commercial. And decided not to make one TV commercial for Wilmaa, but nine. One for each individual feature. With the same production budget. The Alphas did not see this as a problem, but rather as a challenge to develop a very simple and independent film style for Wilmaa.

The result is animated cartoons in the style of Czech children's programs from days gone by. Nine single-minded short spots with a pinch of hearty humor: Wilmaa as a Christmas present shows a family enjoying the wide range of programs on offer in front of the TV while the Christmas tree burns in the background. The puffing Fidel Castro demonstrates that anyone can create their own program with Wilmaa. A skeleton eating popcorn in front of the TV experiences the possibility of recording films and watching them again and again. And many more. The small, fine and self-sufficient films already have a fan base on TV and the Internet.

Responsible at Wilmaa Digital World: Roman Reimann (Head of Wilmaa Box), Thomas Gabathuler (Father of Wilmaa). Responsible at Alpha 245: Patrick Senn, Patrick Beeli (creative direction), Andrea Staub (consulting), Suzana Kovacevic (art buying), bitteschön.tv (film production), Roland Brückner (director), Pam Hügli, Diana Wick (overall responsibility).

Twitter with new function and innovations

With a new feature, Twitter is taking aim at the popular messaging service WhatsApp and is also placing greater emphasis on videos. Among other things, the messaging service aims to facilitate more interaction among users.

In the future, not only two users will be able to communicate confidentially with each other, but also several people in groups, as Twitter announced on Tuesday. This is a field that Twitter previously left to Facebook or messaging services such as WhatsApp. "We found that the only way to communicate with many people is through Twitter, so this circle of contacts is unique," product manager Jinen Kamdar told DPA. Every Twitter message could be the starting point for a conversation - and the company wanted to give users the opportunity to exchange ideas even on a small scale without leaving the platform.

With the second major innovation, videos can now be created directly via the Twitter app and uploaded to the short message service. Previously, only links to videos on other platforms could be distributed via Twitter.

Without advance advertising

The goal is to make it easier for users to share videos, Kamdar said. There will be no advertising before the videos begin, as is the case with Google's YouTube platform.

Facebook has also been offering users and advertisers the option of uploading videos directly to the online network for some time. On Twitter, companies have been able to upload videos of up to 10 minutes in length since last spring. With the new function for consumers, the length of the clips is limited to 30 seconds.

That has been identified as the optimal format, Kamdar said. Twitter also owns the Vine app, which allows users to share videos up to six seconds long. Facebook's Instagram platform has a 15-second limit on video clips.

Twitter is under pressure from the stock market to grow faster - investors have repeatedly expressed disappointment with the increase in user numbers. According to the latest figures, Twitter had 284 million users at the end of September. Facebook comes in at more than 1.3 billion and the short message service, which is now also part of the world's largest online network. (SDA)

Walder, Werber: Image campaign for the vocational school Uster

Walder, Werber presents the Uster Career Guidance School as a strong partner in the field of education. Eye-catching posters show young people pursuing fascinating but unrealistic, utopian «careers»—from a wild wrestler to a cool Superwoman.

"Stop dreaming. Grab your future now." is the campaign's message. As a provocative, challenging eye-opener, it wants young people from the entire region to
draw attention to the BWS Uster and its diverse range of services. In parallel to the poster campaign, the agency is developing a redesign of the various communication media for the BWS - more modern, clearer and more consistent. This way, interested students and parents can easily find their way around the website and the offer brochures.
