Tamedia drops out of photo night

Sponsorship: The magazine is scaling back its involvement in Photo Night.

Sponsoring The magazine is cutting back on its photo night The magazine photo night used to be a high-profile customer event exclusively for advertisers and other invited guests of the Tamedia magazine. Because the Tagi publishing house no longer wants to dig so deep into its sponsorship coffers this year, the photo night on May 9 will no longer be called Magazine Photo Night. "Selection Opening Night presented by EWZ" is the new title. The new main sponsor of the gala is the electricity company of the city of Zurich, in whose Selnau substation in Zurich the show with the best photographic works from advertising, editorial and art will now take place as part of a catalog opening and award ceremony. However, this largest photography prize in Switzerland, worth CHF 10,000, will continue to be financed by the magazine and presented by editor-in-chief Res Strehle, according to organizer Romano Zerbini. He wants to see the change from a customer event to a gala night as an opportunity to widen the circle of people interested in photography. The exhibition at Unterwerk Selnau will run until May 25. A supporting program is in the works (pan).

The skier accelerator

Sponsorship: Our World Ski Championships hopefuls in St. Moritz are expected to ski much faster.

Sponsoring We want them to go much faster, our World Ski Championship hopefuls in St. Moritz The main sponsor of the Swiss ski team, Swisscom, wants to actively contribute to Swiss victories: it is handing out metal rattles in the shape of a Swiss ski racer to spectators. When locals whizz down the slopes, the athletes should be given a powerful boost by activating the secret weapon. The wonder thing helps with every alpine sport. According to the agency, the effect of the "skier accelerator" - as the ratchet was christened by its creative fathers at Spillmann Felser Leo Burnett - has allegedly already been successfully tested in the supreme discipline: Bruno Kernen took 1st place on the Lauberhorn.

Consultant with heart and soul

Martin Bauer has been Account Director and Head of Consulting at MRM Partners Worldwide since early January.

Martin Bauer has been Account Director and Head of Consulting at MRM Partners Worldwide since the beginning of January and loves building relationships and trust. As consulting manager of the Zurich branch of MRM Partners Worldwide, the relationship marketing corridor of McCann-Erickson Worldgroup, Martin Bauer does this on a daily basis. So it is not surprising that the 41-year-old describes his new job as an ideal playing field. However, character traits such as team spirit or extroversion only partly justify this statement: "Relationship marketing gives a consultant more flexibility than traditional communication," Bauer is convinced. In addition to the human component, his entrepreneurial way of thinking comes into play. A judgment that the Zurich native has formed during his 18-year career. "Experience also plays a major role in this business," says Bauer, citing another insight into his profession. He himself always likes to use this toolbox of information to pull out ideas, expand them or combine them in new ways. The fascinating thing about the job has always remained the same for him: "The creation and development of a solution on a piece of paper is still just as exciting for me as it was on the first day."
As a KV graduate, Bauer had a rather idealistic idea of this process: "I imagined advertising as a world of philosophers, artists and aesthetes." The chess player and lover of art, jazz and theater felt drawn to this environment. His career goal at the time was to become a copywriter. No sooner said than done: Bauer joined the Zurich agency Fedier's. The fact that his first challenge was to write an apprentice advertisement for the association of master painters and plasterers did not dampen his enthusiasm. Today, he still raves about the evenings in the art nouveau villa in Zurich, where they discussed God, the world and advertising over sherry and cigars.
Nevertheless, Bauer increasingly developed an affinity for the consultancy role. Finally, his move to Focus-Conseil from Euro RSCG set the ball rolling. Among other things, he developed "Switzerland's first customer club" for Philips and at the same time trained as a qualified advertising manager. Bauer then worked for Advico Young & Rubicam and GGK. In 1998, he switched to the new economy with his engagement at Digivision (now Pixelpark, Switzerland). "There was a completely different wind blowing in terms of strategy, sales and efficiency," recalls the Account Director. Today, Bauer is happy about the culture shock - it's the only reason he has so much entrepreneurial know-how. Bauer was able to build on this by setting up the Swiss branch of the German web service provider die Argonauten and most recently at the event agency Worldspan. His experience in the various fields of communication has now led him to choose MRM Partners Worldwide. "Because we are a modern provider that deals with direct marketing, the Internet and the development and maintenance of databases, I can contribute all my knowledge."

Smoke again

Anti-Smoking Campaign: Matter & Partner is promoting the «Züri Rauchfrei» campaign with a shameless idea.

Anti-tobacco campaign Matter & Partner promotes the "Züri Rauchfrei" campaign with a shameless idea: the message "Treat yourself to a cigarette" is written on matchbooks distributed by Züri Rauchfrei. This is presumably a unique way for an addiction prevention agency to encourage people to smoke. However, if you open the flap of the letter, the real "clients" of this message are revealed with cheekily faked logos: a crematorium, a mortician, a gravestone carver and a manufacturer of grave decorations. Once you have recovered from this "shock", you discover the finely printed text on the back of the matchbook: "A little food for thought from Züri Rauchfrei". The offensive little sticks with the deadly message are placed in bars, trendy bars and at various events in the canton of Zurich.

Edelweiss becomes concrete

Karin Müller, editor-in-chief of a women's magazine, on Edelweiss.

Women's magazine editor-in-chief Karin Müller on EdelweissThe editor-in-chief of the German-language edition of Edelweiss is Karin Müller. She has previously worked for Blick, Tages-Anzeiger, Annabelle, Beauty Life and Tele 24. Her editorial team will initially consist of five people, with freelancers joining later. Around 60 percent of the articles will be translated from the French-language edition of Edelweiss. "However, the magazine will increasingly adapt to the German-language edition and the needs of the German-speaking Swiss market," says Müller. A first edition of 70,000 copies will be published on February 26. 116 pages are planned, including 25 to 30 pages of advertisements. "The response from advertisers has been very good," says publishing director Daniela Bahnmüller.
In addition to lots of fashion, the first issue will also present fencing as a new trend sport for women. A portrait is dedicated to Jakov Kreiz, shooting star of the conductor scene and "favorite of many women". The Living Room section presents dream homes to buy or rent. Each issue also contains a dossier on a socially relevant topic.
However, the new Edelweiss will face competition from three new Swiss splits that want to launch German women's magazines. And other titles are also already thinking aloud about entering the Swiss market. >> Page 13

It is not yet clear whether Fennel will have the Swiss advertising business - a color page costs 6,000 francs - managed from Düsseldorf or locally. The hottest contender for this job is currently the St.Gallen DM agency Künzler-Bachmann.
