The new structure will allow the individual companies to be managed more independently of each other. Page made the announcement in a Blog post. All Google shares would be converted into the same number of Alphabet shares with the same rights. He will lead Alphabet as CEO, Page announced. Google itself will continue to exist - under the leadership of the previous head of product Sundar Pichai, who will be promoted to CEO. (SDA/hae)

Last but not least: Stars in the background

The Arsenal London players surprised their fans at the launch of their new kits by sneaking into their photos. The viral campaign earned the stars and the club a lot of sympathy.

Football clubs today use all channels to keep existing fans happy and to attract new ones. The presentation of new kits is often turned into a high-profile event. Last year, for example, Ajax Amsterdam and Adidas fooled the players with strange jersey designs - the hidden camera joke has been viewed over 1.6 million times on YouTube to date (Last but not least, 9.6.2014).

Arsenal London should soon have topped this figure. For the presentation, the club focused on the fans rather than the players. They were approached in the fan store and asked to have their picture taken in the new jersey. What they didn't know was that the Arsental stars were lurking behind the photo wall, sneaking into the picture just before the shutter was released - and thus delighting the fans with unforgettable snapshots. Photobombing at its best. And suddenly the rest of the world was interested in what the new Arsenal jerseys looked like. At least a little bit. (hae)

Investigations against Netzpolitik.org closed

The acting German Attorney General, Gerhard Altvater, has closed the controversial investigation against the bloggers of Netzpolitik.org on suspicion of treason. Netzpolitik.org boss Markus Beckedahl is now calling for further clarification.

Like the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Federal Public Prosecutor General assumes that the documents published by Netzpolitik.org are not state secrets, the highest prosecuting authority announced in Karlsruhe on Monday. The founder of the blog, Markus Beckedahl, called the move overdue. He explained that dropping the case was not enough. He wanted to know whether the bloggers had been victims of surveillance measures during the almost three-month investigation. "And we want clarity about who knew what and when in the federal government." He called the investigations against the blog a legal miscalculation. What is needed is clarification as to why the Federal Public Prosecutor General acted in this way and who exerted pressure. The search for the bloggers' informants continues. According to the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office, there is still suspicion of a violation of official secrecy against unknown persons with professional secrets. The proceedings will be handed over to the responsible public prosecutor's office.

Stumbling block for the Attorney General

The affair surrounding the investigations led to the dismissal of Federal Prosecutor General Harald Range last week following a dispute with Justice Minister Heiko Maas. The bloggers had published confidential documents from the domestic intelligence service on the internet. The documents concerned plans to increase surveillance of the internet. Range had initiated an investigation into treason against two bloggers from Netzpolitik.org following information from the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. This was widely criticized in the media and politics as an attack on the freedom of the press. The German government distanced itself from the investigation. The scandal arose over an expert opinion commissioned by Range on the question of how the published documents should be assessed. Range accused Maas of exerting influence and intolerably interfering with the independence of the judiciary.

Donations for bloggers

The affair has made the Netzpolitik.org portal known throughout Germany. According to Beckedahl, the editorial team received numerous donations as a result. More than thirty authors around Beckedahl regularly write on Netzpolitik.org "about political, social, technical and cultural issues on the way to a digital society". The operators see their blog as a "platform for digital freedom rights". Classic topics include data retention, online surveillance, digital civil rights and data protection. (SDA)

Salt no longer advertises Swiss Pass subscription because of SBB

With the exception of the spacing between the words, two companies chose the same name: SBB and Salt. Because SBB calls its new chip card SwissPass, the Salt subscription called Swiss Pass was a thorn in its side. Salt received mail from SBB at the beginning of June.

In the letter, Salt was "politely asked to no longer use the name Swiss Pass in its communications", said SBB spokeswoman Franziska Frey. She confirmed a report in the Südostschweiz newspaper on Saturday to the SDA news agency. With the name change, Salt has introduced flat-rate subscriptions with the name component Pass: the Young Pass, the Senior Pass - and the Swiss Pass. However, SBB has registered the name SwissPass (without a space between the words) for its new red chip card, as a glance at the trademark register shows. Since August 1, all SBB customers who buy or renew a GA or Half-Fare travelcard automatically receive this new chip card. According to Salt, there is "absolutely no connection" between the name and the fact that Salt is not currently advertising the product online. This was announced by a company spokeswoman on Saturday. She explained to Südostschweiz that Salt had offered the offer for sale online during the launch phase. The offer is still available: in retail outlets and via customer service. (SDA)
