BSSM moves the spine into the center

The University Hospital Basel has its new spine center introduced by BSSM in terms of communication. In a first wave, the first competence center of its kind in Switzerland will be made known to physicians throughout Switzerland.

Simultaneously with the opening of this novel center, the University Hospital Basel appoints a Professor and Chief Physician for Spinal Surgery, which underlines the importance of spinal surgery as well as concentrates forces and knowledge in this field of research in one place.

The measures to introduce the Spine Center are aimed primarily at referring physicians. Accordingly, the communication mix consists of advertisements in the medical press, personalized mailings and specialist lectures at the University Hospital Basel.

Switzerland continues to tap ORF

Austria doesn't really want Switzerland to watch ORF. But thanks to a Swisscom antenna in Graubünden, it's still possible.

ORF stations have always enjoyed great popularity in Switzerland. ORF 1 in particular is high in the favor of Swiss TV viewers thanks to commercial-free feature films, series and sports broadcasts. According to Schweiz am Sonntag, Switzerland owes its enjoyment of Austrian television to an antenna in Müstair on the border with Italy's South Tyrol. Swisscom receives the channels there and passes them on to its own customers and, for a fee, to UPC Cablecom. Legally. Because according to Swiss law, anything that can be received here without encryption can be broadcast.

Actually, Austria does not want Switzerland to help itself to its own state broadcasters free of charge. The signal broadcast over the air was therefore encrypted - as a result, channels such as ATV, ORF III and Puls 4 disappeared from the Swiss cable networks. Actually, ORF 1 and ORF 2 would now also be encrypted and therefore no longer receivable. In Austria - but not in the Italian province of South Tyrol. There, the channels are still available in HD quality and are received by Swisscom subsidiary Swisscom Broadcast via an antenna, sent to Olten and distributed to Swiss households. UPC Cablecom buys the signal, as operating its own antenna would be too expensive. (SaS/hae)

Last but not least: Le Big Swim

Soccer legend Eric Cantona kept his promise and swam across the English Channel for Kronenbourg. At least in Ogilvy's wonderful commercial.

In June, Manchester United legend Eric Cantona announced he would swim the Channel should 10'000 British consumers admit that French beer Kronenburg is the best lager in the world.

Cantona, who became an actor after his extraordinary soccer career, is still revered in large parts of England. The British love the Frenchman - and they love Kronenbourg. Although France is actually the arch-friend par excellence. But the Kronenbourg served in England's pubs is not really French anyway, because it is brewed in Manchester. In 2014, a Kronenbourg commercial featuring Cantona was meanwhile forbiddenbecause he pretended that the product was made in France.

In August, Cantona made good on his promise and set out to cross the channel that separates England from France. The result is two spots created by Ogilvy & Mather. Kronenbourg may not be the best beer in the world - Cantona, on the other hand, is certainly one of the best testimonials a beer brand could wish for. (hae)

SRG: Large contingent in Locarno

According to the NZZ am Sonntag, which cited the accreditation list, 113 people are working for SRG at the Locarno Film Festival.

According to the report, almost a quarter of the Swiss journalists enrolled on August 5 work at an SRG station - most of them at SRF and RSI. It is "as little as possible and as much as necessary" to fulfill the journalistic mission with "hard work in the four national languages," as SRF spokesman Daniel Steiner justifies the considerable number of accredited journalists to the NZZ am Sonntag. The festival is also an industry meeting, he said, with countless working sessions held with producers, directors, screenwriters, distributors and trade associations, as well as film funders. The festival has been running since Wednesday. A total of 962 journalists from 41 countries are accredited. (NZZaS/hae)

Valencia: New TV spots for the Coop promotion week

Fresher, more delicious, for you and me: Valencia Kommunikation has revamped Coop’s TV commercials for its weekly promotions.

After the Coop action magazine Aktionswoche was given a new look, the corresponding format on television has now been revised and visually adapted to the print version. Valencia was responsible for the storyboard, layout and casting of the off-speakers. The aim was to make the spots fresher and more culinary. The items now appear against a store background and the offers are posted on a chalkboard. This gives the spots a "market-fresh" feel and more emotionality. The spots are accompanied by new music produced by Zurich-based Hitmill Studios. The new weekly action spots will be broadcast every week with new actions and will run in German, French and Italian from week 32.

Responsible at Coop: Thomas Schwetje (Head of Marketing/Services), Sacha Zuberbühler (Head of Advertising), Marc Weber (Project Manager Advertising), Karin Heliopoulos (Head of Media), Stefan Besmer (TWMedia). Responsible at Valencia Communication: Béatrice Otto (Art Director), Sebastian Refardt (Senior Copywriter), Diana Aberkane (Consulting). Responsible at Encore Pictures: Jürg Steudler (Production). Responsible at Hitmill: Roman Camenzind, Fred Hermann (music).

SRF broadcasts weather forecast from the previous day

A glitch on Swiss television on Thursday evening: instead of the current weather report, it broadcast the "SRF Meteo" program from the previous day after "10 to 10".

"Midsummer still has us firmly in its grip. Tomorrow, too, there will be one thing: pure sunshine from morning to evening", "at most there will be a few veil clouds or perhaps a few spring clouds", announced presenter Jan Eitel on "SRF-Meteo". He was undoubtedly right. However, his forecast was not for Friday, but for the previous day. The recording from the previous day was broadcast by mistake after "10 to 10", an SRF spokeswoman confirmed in response to an inquiry from the online portal Blick.ch. It is unclear why this could have happened and is being investigated. (SDA)

Alpha 245: Manor Food pays homage to cinema films

Like every year, the whole of Locarno is immersed in the world of cinema during the film festival from August 5 - 15. Manor Food Ascona spontaneously wanted to take up this occasion and commissioned Alpha245 to develop a befitting poster campaign.

The result is a small but exquisite food homage to well-known movies: Five different subjects each pay homage to a film title with a Manor Food product. The posters were displayed on August 3 in the Ascona/Locarno area, where they will be on display throughout the festival.

Salt Cinema in a new dress

Orange has become Salt, but Switzerland’s largest open-air movie theater will once again take place at the Zürichhorn in 2015. Organizer Cinerent played a leading role in the telecom provider’s rebranding and effectively showcased the Salt brand at the open-air movie theater.

On Thursday evening, Salt Cinema at Zürichhorn raised the screen for the first time for the preview of "While We're Young". For event organizer Cinerent, the change from Orange to Salt involved a lot of work beforehand. "After 15 years of Orange Cinema, this was a big step not only for Salt, but also for us," says Managing Director Daniel Frischknecht.

Cinerent was informed of the new brand name back in December. This long lead time was needed to change the entire look - from the stationery to the branded elements in the square. "Because we didn't hang up thousands of logos, but instead relied on color schemes, furnishings, etc., it was extremely time-consuming," explains Frischknecht.

The result is impressive:

bild3_6

And how easily does the new name come across to Cinerent employees? In the meantime, they have got the hang of it, Frischknecht assures us. In the beginning, however, it was so difficult that they temporarily set up a cash box: "Everyone who said 'Orange' had to pay ten francs."

A further 31 films will be shown at the Zürichhorn until August 16. You can find the complete Salt Cinema program for summer 2015 here here. (sis)

Desperados Verde: Launch with interactive poster campaign

Desperados Verde was launched in Switzerland with an interactive poster campaign. To enter the contest, participants had to find the right QR code among the 140 codes featured on the posters.

In the national languages German, French and Italian, the interactive posters with QR codes motivated the public to take part in the competition, which enticed them with a trip to Cuba. More than 140 of these codes formed the background of the posters. Entering the sweepstakes required luck and perseverance, as only one of the many codes opened the link to the corresponding sweepstakes form. The remaining 139 codes either linked to the call to "Try Again" or donated discount vouchers that could be used to purchase Desperados Verde at a reduced price at Coop Pronto.

The posters were always placed near the partner outlets Coop Pronto, where Desperados Verde is always available chilled.

The Austrian agency Super-Fi, which already created and implemented the "Way Of The Desperados" campaign, is responsible for the campaign. At the beginning of the year, the campaign was launched in Switzerland and, by means of a video campaign in collaboration with Vice Alps implemented. Desperados offered five artists a medium to let off steam creatively. For one week, they had blank billboards at their disposal, which became their personal canvases. In three episodes, you can watch the creative processes of the young artists Dr. Drax and Pase from One Truth Grafitti, Jonas Anelone, and Basile and Pietro from 242 Skateboards.

Last but not least: Break at last

To raise awareness of KitKat in Colombia, JWT «recreated» other campaigns. Quite elaborate—and quite good.

Kitkat used to be a foreign word in Colombia. The reason: the chocolate bar didn't even exist. So it was high time for Nestlé to fill this gap in the market too - with a modest annual turnover of over 90 billion Swiss francs (!), the world's largest food company is still nowhere near big enough.

Nestlé spent a peso or two on the communication surrounding the market launch. At least that's what the successful campaign suggests. JWT Colombia prominently staged the Kitkat slogan "Have a Break, have a Kitkat" and gave the protagonists of other advertising campaigns a break. Meaning: Kitkat in other people's hands on other people's posters. But not with guerrilla marketing and stickers, but the real thing. The agency recreated current campaigns and had the main actors take a break from eating Kitkat. The real protagonists, of course. All with the consent of the copied advertisers - but who would say no to that? Companies like Mazda, Banca Caja Social and Hero (not Hero) at least didn't object. The posters were put up on public transport in Bogotá together with Kitkat dispensers. Very nice. And now: Have a (summer) break! (hae)
