Last but not least: China wants to tax virtual money

The Chinese tax authority seems to be blessed with resourceful tax officials, but not exactly with a great deal of practical experience. It is currently making headlines in China because it wants to tax virtual currency in the future.

The Chinese tax authority is apparently blessed with resourceful tax officials but not much practical experience. It is currently making a name for itself in China because it also wants to tax virtual money in the future. This includes not only platforms such as Second Life, where the Linden dollar can actually be exchanged for hard currency, but also game platforms where sharp swords or accurate bows can be bought with gold pieces in fantasy environments.
The uproar in the Chinese internet community is correspondingly great. On the popular portal Netease alone, over 6000 comments are said to have appeared the day after the news was published. The fact that individuals are to pay while Internet companies remain excluded from the regulation is seen as particularly unfair.
The background to this somewhat unusual action is the fact that the corresponding market in China has grown by 15 to 20 percent annually in recent years, and apparently hundreds of millions of euros have been earned. The only problem is that it is almost impossible to make virtual trading traceable. It is also very difficult to determine the conversion value. However, if you consider the tenacity with which even gigantic problems are solved in China, the first virtual yuan should soon be flowing into the Chinese tax coffers.

Europe's largest television provider RTL Group was able to slightly increase its revenues and operating profit in the first nine months of 2008. Revenues climbed from 4.04 billion euros in the same period of the previous year to 4.05 billion euros, as RTL Group announced on Thursday, according to SDA. Adjusted for portfolio and exchange rate effects, revenues rose by 1.4 percent to 4.1 billion euros.
In the same period, the operating result rose by 1.6 percent from 568 to 577 million euros. The TV advertising markets in Germany and the Netherlands grew, while RTL's holdings in Spain and France had to contend with declining advertising revenues, it said.
Despite the economic climate and the low predictability of advertising bookings, RTL Group's management remains cautiously optimistic that it will achieve its targets for the rest of 2008.
RTL Group operates 43 channels in Europe, including stations such as RTL, Vox and n-tv. The Group also has stakes in 31 radio stations on the continent and operates the global production company Freemantle Media.

You can say Negro in satires

In a satirical program, the word Negro does not violate the anti-racism penal norm. DRS ombudsman Achille Casanova has therefore rejected a complaint against a radio program that was marginally about Barack Obama.

JWT+H+F: Climbing into the slaughterhouse with a chainsaw for Cleandent

To dramatize the function of the Cleandent dental floss holder, the creative agency JWT+H+F sneaked figures into groups of people where they most certainly don’t belong. It has a touch of *The Texas Chainsaw Massacre*.

To dramatize the function of the Cleandent floss holder, the creative agency JWT+H+F has smuggled figures into groups of people who certainly don't belong there. True to the motto "Get out what doesn't belong in", there are three search images in which people dressed in white represent white teeth. But there is something disturbing in the scene. A person also dressed in white, symbolizing leftover food. The advertising campaign will be shown on posters and in advertisements from November 7. Last year, JWT+H+F developed a complete corporate design for new client Cleandent.

Zurich neighborhood newspaper Vorstadt is discontinued

The Zurich neighborhood newspaper *Vorstadt* will cease publication at the end of the year. The reason is financial difficulties. Three employees will be laid off.

The Zurich neighborhood newspaper Vorstadt will be discontinued at the end of the year. The reason is financial problems. Three people have been made redundant, as Erika Zurgilgen from Echo-Verlag told SDA on Thursday.
"We cannot finance another lean period on our own," publishing director Elio Camponovo is quoted as saying in Wednesday's edition. The newspaper is published in districts 11 and 12 every second Wednesday as a supplement to the Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich.
At the end of May 2007, Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich AG sold the weekly newspaper Vorstadt to Echo-Verlag. The publishing house also publishes the Quartierecho. This will continue to be published in districts 3, 4 and 9 and will be distributed to all letterboxes from 2009.
The Vorstadt newspaper was founded in 1957 by Ernst E. Büchi and was published by Büry-Verlag until 1996. It was then taken over by Zurich SVP party secretary Karl Schroeder and sold on to Akeret AG (now Zürcher Unterland Medien) in 1999. Since mid-2005, it has belonged to Tagblatt der Stadt Zürich AG, in which Tamedia holds a majority stake.

BRONZE
Nightshift
A movie with a wonderful and very rich set, a super casting with many beautiful people and perfect styling. Beautiful allusions to famous movies, but with its own self-contained story. This beautiful dream world is densely but not obtrusively staged and sensually realized with good camera work. The Edi. Jury awarded this film bronze in 2008.

CATEGORY: CORPORATE

CATEGORY: COMMERCIALS
GOLD
Hiltl "Sound Designer" (Spot)
A fresh idea, crisply realized. In this film, freshness is shown as a joke, which is a stark contrast to the client's intention. The film inspires with a perfect orchestration of sound, image and editing. The use of the soundtrack alone is outrageously clever and leaves you wanting more. Even Quentin Tarantino becomes a vegetarian. This film was awarded gold by the Edi. Jury 2008 with gold.
SILVER
AXA Winterthur "Pension provision" (Spot)
An un-Swiss emotional film! Insurance benefits are a difficult environment for advertising films. This makes it all the more remarkable how elegantly and light-footedly the joie de vivre of the policyholders is portrayed here. Special praise goes to the great camera work, the direction and the congenial soundtrack. This is how you want to grow old. This movie was worth silver to the Edi. Jury Silver in 2008.
BRONZE
Marco / Miriam (Spot Marco) / (Spot Miriam)
This commercial is entertaining, gripping and one thing above all: revealing. Rarely is such a sensitive topic communicated in such a light-hearted and cheerful way. The spontaneous, improvised style dramatizes the content perfectly. A successful combination of animation and live-action film that takes you on a short but intense journey. This film was worth bronze to the Edi. Jury in 2008.

SPECIAL EDI. DIRECTOR
Risk
This film is characterized by good camerawork, good editing and convincing acting. The changes from situation to situation and the jumps from one world to another are perfect. And almost everything takes place in front of the camera. A very well thought-out movie. This work was worth a Special Edi. for Directing to the Jury 08.
SPECIAL EDI. CAMERA
Pfister - inspired by nature (Spot)
Great film lives from great images and this film is a high-quality picture film. With fascinating camera work, the message is translated into a high-quality photographic film. This film deserves the award not because of a short-term innovation but for its high-quality classic film work. The Jury 08 therefore awards a Special Edi. for Cinematography.
SPECIAL EDI. CUT
Hiltl "Sound Designer" (Spot)
This cut supports the rhythm of the movie. This cut sets the sound. This cut makes the movie-within-a-movie perfect. This cut is the bass, everything that comes on top is melody. You can hear it - this cut. For this achievement, the Jury 08 awards a Special Editing Award.
SPECIAL EDI. CONCEPT/SCREENPLAY
KFT Winterthur
The concept of this film makes use of the market-screaming form of retail advertising; it draws on well-known advertising films from the 1970s as a matter of course - and yet is absolutely independent, surprising and diverse. The film, with its astonishing layers of relationships to completely different products, is pure cinema advertising. This achievement was worth a special Edi. for idea, concept and screenplay to the jury 08.
SPECIAL EDI. PRODUCTION DESIGN
do.it.yourself.hospital
With this production, the word design takes on a new meaning. The concept is straightforward and everything is very aesthetic and very credible. A big compliment to the set construction: the right things were done, not too much and not too little. This work was worth a Special Edi. for Production Design to the 08 jury.
SPECIAL EDI. VISUAL EFFECTS
IWC Schaffhausen - The Book of Dreams
Despite the nostalgic mood, this movie is very modern. The convincing visual composition is impressive, because the only real things are the products. What makes the film so special and extraordinary are the transitions from the one-dimensional world to the three-dimensional world: visual effects of the best kind. This work was worth a Special Edi. for Visual Effects to the Jury 08.
SPECIAL EDI. MUSIC & SOUND DESIGN
Coop Sustainability "Stress" (Spot)
The music was composed especially for a commercial. And then the song became a hit. A strong song. A Swiss artist. It is a great achievement to write a commissioned song that then becomes a hit and perfectly matches the content of the commercial as well as the zeitgeist and the target group. This achievement was worth a special Edi. for Music & Sound Design to the 08 jury.

Feinheit Kreativ Studio realizes campaign for Greenpeace

The agency Feinheit Kreativ Studio designed and implemented the voting campaign "Courageous people move the world, we move Zurich" together with the campaign forum for Greenpeace Switzerland.

Together with the campaign forum for Greenpeace Switzerland, the agency Feinheit Kreativ Studio designed and implemented the voting campaign "Courageous people move the world, we move Zurich". On November 30, 2008, the citizens of Zurich will decide on the future environmental policy of their city.
According to a press release issued on Thursday, one of the campaign's motifs shows Greenpeace activist Paul Horsman, who showed courage in Russia in November 1994 by documenting an oil spill. The other motif shows people calling on voters to vote in favor of the bill. The two subjects are shown in combination as advertisements, cinema slides and on the Internet.

Zurich has celebrities again

Who gets to be featured? Who doesn't? With a touch of vain anticipation, the presentation of the new edition of «Who’s Who in Zurich» took place Wednesday evening at the Kaufleuten in front of 300 invited potential celebrities.

Who is allowed to show themselves? Who can't? The presentation of the new edition of "Who's Who in Zurich" took place on Wednesday evening in the Kaufleuten in front of 300 invited potential celebrities. The 200 most prominent personalities of 2009 were finally revealed in this glossy magazine with picture and bio. "The second edition of this annual publication is not a matter of course," says publisher Eugen Baumgartner from Eugencom Edition Zurich.
On the 124 pages, it is noticeable that around half of last year's celebrities have been dropped from the magazine, although they are still seen at many events. For the selection committee, however, "real performance" counted more than a traditional reputation. Whether the state of the nation was judged with the right lens in every case is of course doubtful, as with every judging.
Actor Bruno Ganz is no longer with us. Instead, he is now acting in Hollywood. Frank A. Meyer is likely to have fallen victim to the quantity of the 200, because he is increasingly letting his qualities play out in Berlin. And Melanie Winiger probably had to make way because in Zurich we have a fundamental problem with overstimulation with at least one new Miss plus Vice-Miss and Ex-Miss plus Vice-Ex-Miss every year.
And the fact that politicians rarely change their minds but often change their names after new elections is a law of the system. According to Baumgartner, it is also part of the system that the jury for this celebrity ranking should remain anonymous for security reasons. However, the authors of the magazine such as Barbara Ryter, Ruth Brüderlin, Regula Elsener, Reto Steinmann and Monica Fahmy are known.
The "Who's Who" is now available as an exclusive gift at selected locations in the company or can be ordered via www.ww-magazin.ch be ordered.

On the ruins of mass culture: Reich-Ranicki has found the most beautiful reading corner

Here, he isn’t bothered by bad TV programming: Marcel Reich-Ranicki, the latest «bright mind» in the F.A.Z. campaign by Scholz & Friends Berlin, is reading the newspaper at a recycling center in Frankfurt.

Here, he isn’t bothered by bad TV programming: Marcel Reich-Ranicki, the latest «smart mind» in the F.A.Z. campaign by Scholz & Friends Berlin, is reading the newspaper at a recycling center in Frankfurt. The new ad, which shows the 88-year-old “literary pope” surrounded by discarded televisions, will appear starting November 8 in numerous newspapers and magazines, online, and, of course, in the F.A.Z. itself.
A few weeks earlier, the former literary editor of the *Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung* had labeled German television programming «nonsense» and declined the German Television Award for his lifetime achievement. One of the few interesting shows still on the air is the Tagesschau, said the renowned critic on the sidelines of the photo shoot for the multi-award-winning photo series. Reich-Ranicki would therefore like to encourage young, bright minds to read «sensible, intelligent books and newspapers» rather than watch worthless television. «There aren’t many of them, but they do exist,» said Reich-Ranicki, who headed the literature section of the F.A.Z. from 1973 to 1988.
