Relaunch Bern.ch with Supertext support

The revised website of the Bern city administration has been online since December 8, 2015. During the relaunch, the project managers of the city of Bern paid special attention to the texts of the more than 2,500 content pages.

They should be geared even more closely to the needs and knowledge of visitors and meet the requirements for web texts. Comprehensibility and reader-friendliness were to be increased, content clearly structured and the path to the desired information shortened. Help for self-help was sought: The text know-how of the people who write the content was to be improved. In addition, they were to be equipped with guidelines. The aim was to ensure that those responsible for copywriting during the relaunch - and beyond - would be able to achieve the required goals in the creation of web copy.

Supertext prevailed in a multi-stage evaluation process at the end of 2014. "Experience as well as the necessary manpower to handle a project of this kind were of course imperative. We were particularly impressed by the way Supertext solved the task at hand: namely, to train and motivate all the people involved in such a way that they were able to meet the text requirements," says Roland Brechbühl, eGovernment program manager at the Bern city administration and overall project manager of the relaunch of Bern.ch

Bildschirmfoto-2015-12-08-um-09.58.27

In close cooperation and coordination with the project management, the following milestones were developed, finalized and deployed:

- Content alignment workshops, with representatives from all affected office areas.
- Workshops on accessibility, with the stakeholders responsible for it.
- Sample texts
- Practical aids
- Style guide web texts
- Training materials
- Content Capture Templates
- Text training

"We had set out to engage in a stronger dialog with our Internet visitors than before and to consistently place their concerns at the center of the web pages. With the support of Supertext, our authors have succeeded in doing just that," says Karsten Querfurth, project manager for online communications at the Bern city council's information service.

Before the newly-written web pages went online, frequently requested ones were subjected to a quality check by Supertext and comments were made on where improvements were still needed. The Supertext online order and distribution system proved its worth here, enabling clear processing including total cost transparency at all times.

UZH: New professor for journalism science

Eszter Hargittai will be the new Professor of Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Zurich. She will succeed Heinz Bonfadelli on August 1, 2016. This will strengthen the international orientation of the IPMZ.

Currently, Hargittai, who holds U.S. and Hungarian citizenship, is a professor at Northwestern University in Evanston, USA. She studied sociology and received her doctorate from Princeton University in 2003, the University of Zurich (UZH) announced Tuesday. Hargittai's interests include sociologically oriented inequality research. For example, she has investigated the connections between the use of digital information technology and social status. In Zurich, she will address the topics of media use, media reality and media effects primarily from a media sociological perspective. Hargittai enjoys international esteem and is also present in international media as an expert, according to the statement. Hargittai gained experience of the Swiss media landscape during her studies in Geneva and as a visiting professor in St. Gallen.

Appeal proceedings stopped

The search for a successor to Bonfadelli dragged on for several years. The appointment process was put on hold in March 2013 because of "massive hostility," according to Andreas Fischer, the university rector at the time. The Tages-Anzeiger had previously accused that only German candidates had been invited to the appointment lectures. This was despite the fact that it was clear from the job advertisement "that a Swiss candidate would almost certainly be suitable for the vacancy.

Swiss researcher for another professorship

So although a US and Hungarian national is now taking over from Bonfadelli, a Swiss is nevertheless also to have a go. UZH would like to appoint Thomas Friemel, who currently teaches at the university, as an addition to another professorship for media use and media effects. Friemel has received a corresponding call to take on a professorship at UZH, according to the statement. Among other things, he will conduct research on the use and impact of Swiss media and provide services to Swiss society in the area of campaign research. (SDA)

Asians save the summer season

Despite the strong Swiss franc, the summer season was relatively stable for Swiss hotels—thanks to guests from China. This winter, however, hoteliers will have to rely primarily on domestic tourists and hope that their advertising campaign pays off.

The efforts to get Chinese tourists interested in skiing vacations in Switzerland are great. The marketing organization Switzerland Tourism, for example, launched a programme with Chinese-speaking ski instructors in eight ski resorts two years ago. However, demand is still manageable and the instructors are hardly ever booked. The situation is quite different in the summer months. From May to October, local hotels recorded 262,000 overnight stays from China, a good 37 percent more than in the same period last year, according to the accommodation statistics published by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Monday.
In total, there were 570,000 bookings from the Asian continent during this period.

Switzerland is also becoming increasingly popular with guests from the Gulf States (+22%), India (+26%) and South Korea (+20%). This means that guests from Asia have once again pulled the coals out of the fire for Swiss hoteliers. It is thanks to them that the number of overnight stays - down by a total of 0.7 percent to 20 million bookings - did not fall more sharply.

Slump in bookings from Germany

Demand from Germany, the most important foreign market for Swiss hotels, was particularly weak in the summer months. Here, the number of overnight stays fell by a good 15 percent or 97,000 units. Taking all European countries of origin together, the decline amounted to just under 11 percent. Domestic demand was also slightly below the previous year's level. The 8.7 million overnight stays correspond to a decrease of 0.5 percent. For Hotelleriesuisse, the new figures are in line with expectations. The KOF Swiss Economic Institute at ETH Zurich had even forecast a slightly stronger decline of minus 1.0 percent. According to Hotelleriesuisse spokesman Beat Waldmeier, the fact that the decline was somewhat less pronounced is due to the good weather in June and July, as well as the slight appreciation of the euro and dollar against the Swiss franc.

Hope for loyalty from the Swiss

While local tourism was able to count on Asian guests in the summer, the focus is now shifting to Swiss tourists for the winter months. However, the uncertainty here is much greater. A survey of regional associations has shown that the Swiss are booking their ski vacations at increasingly short notice, Waldmeier told sda. Accordingly, the factors of weather and snow play a central role. Added to this is the pressure on room prices, which, according to Waldmeier, is still continuing: In order to remain competitive with neighboring countries after the Swiss franc shock in mid-January, hoteliers have adjusted their room rates across the board.

Domestic advertising campaign

Switzerland Tourism has also recognized the importance of domestic guests. The Swiss are the most important target audience in the current winter campaign. In addition to former astronaut Buzz Aldrin, the marketing organization has brought in many Swiss winter sports stars such as Iouri Podladtchikov, Dario Cologna, Dominique Gisin and Fanny Smith. The KOF is predicting stagnation in hotel overnight stays for Swiss tourism in the winter season as a whole. The number of overnight stays by domestic guests is expected to rise by 1.1 percent, while the number of tourists from abroad will fall by 0.7 percent. The KOF forecasts a 1.4 percent decline in visitor frequency for mountain railroads. (SDA)

Study: 68 percent of online users find re-targeting advertising inappropriate

A study conducted by Greenadz on the acceptance of retargeting and online advertising shows that three-quarters of users notice retargeting ads.

Who hasn't seen them, the banners with the product offers you researched last week? Only 24 percent of Internet users have never noticed such re-targeting banners, according to the representative results of a representative online user study conducted by the Hamburg-based market research company Greenadz. Conversely, this means that 76 percent of users are fully aware of the existence of re-targeting advertising.

Poor marks for execution and transparency of advertising

Most people notice re-targeting advertising because it is poorly executed: 68% think that the advertising is inappropriate as they are no longer interested in this product or have already bought it. 62 ask themselves why they are being shown this advertising and how the provider knows their supposed interests.

Four out of ten find re-targeting helpful

The good news: 41% explicitly agree with the statement that this type of advertising is helpful. For example, they can see whether the product is now available at a lower price. Sandra Gärtner, Managing Director, Greenadz, explains the results: "This also shows how important respectful interaction at eye level is for successfully addressing your customers - this applies in particular to advertising communication via display banners as well as via your own website. Against the backdrop of increasing uncertainty as to how each individual's data is used, there is great potential to positively differentiate yourself as a provider and to explain to users how the personalized approach - which is certainly perceived - actually comes about."

About the study:

The study was conducted on the basis of 512 online users in April 2015, recruited via Lightspeed GMI's online access panel, representative according to socio-demographics and cross-quotated according to age and gender. Further results include the most popular incentives for online surveys, acceptance of online advertising and the prevalence of ad blockers. The presentation of the study results can be requested by e-mail to [email protected] can be requested free of charge.

About Greenadz

Greenadz is the first German market research company to research the branding potential of display campaigns in real time using the campaign itself as a recruitment channel. The company relies on a mixture of ad technology and market research expertise: customer insights and the success of online communication are collected on the basis of user surveys. The results provide target group information and insight into the effectiveness of their campaigns beyond web analytics and click rates. At the same time, the company offers the first sustainable incentive concept for onsite surveys by rewarding every survey participation with a tree donation. Greenadz was founded in Hamburg at the beginning of 2015.

CEO Andsjö leaves Salt

Johan Andsjö, CEO, has decided to leave Salt effective immediately. The Board of Directors has appointed Pierre-Alain Allemand as interim CEO.

In connection with the change of ownership, Pierre-Alain Allemand has so far supported Salt's management in initiating and leading transformation projects to increase operational and economic efficiency. The search for a successor to Johan Andsjö has been initiated, as detailed in a press release. "We take note of Johan's departure and respect his decision. We are confident that Pierre-Alain will successfully fulfill the ad interim role, with the full support of the management team and owners for continued business development, until a new CEO is nominated," commented Oliver Rosenfeld of NJJ in a statement.

Longtime "Tagesschau" anchorman Léon Huber dead

Léon Huber, the longtime anchor of the "Tagesschau" news program, has died. The 79-year-old passed away after a long illness, Swiss Radio and Television (SRF) announced on Monday evening.

Huber already succumbed to a kidney ailment on November 27, as close acquaintances of the former "Tagesschau" anchor confirmed to Swiss television. He was buried in a Zurich cemetery on December 3. For 33 years, the popular anchorman was the face of "Tagesschau," from 1963 until his retirement in 1996, and was often called "Mister Tagesschau" for that reason. Typical of the trained actor were his almost perfect pronunciation and his calm manner. The May 3, 1981 edition of Tagesschau was legendary, for example, when masked demonstrators stormed into the studio and displayed a banner reading "Freedom and Sunshine for Giorgio Bellini". Giorgio Bellini from Ticino was considered a member of the Zurich youth movement. He had been arrested at the time. Huber remained very calm and, after a brief interruption, continued to read the news as if nothing had happened. Also remembered by many was the scene when the Tagesschau presenter stuck out his tongue shortly before the start of the broadcast in August 1990 - but the sequence had already been recorded. Stämpfli: Music store opening in Lucerne

The city of Lucerne has a new music store: Krompholz Musik opened a branch in Lucerne on November 14, 2015, with live performances by singer-songwriters Ishantu and Damian Lynn. Stämpfli Kommunikation is behind the concept and the marketing campaign.

Lucerne is being musically enriched: The traditional music store Krompholz, which is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year, is opening a new location in the middle of Lucerne, at Klos-terstrasse 11. To celebrate this addition in a fitting manner, the opening of the branch was publicized in collaboration with Stämpfli Kommunikation. The communication measures were accompanied by a guerrilla concert by the Central Swiss musician Ishantu, who roamed the streets of Lucerne with her guitar.

Interested parties could follow the singer or go directly to Klosterstrasse, where they were welcomed with an aperitif and a concert by Lucerne singer-songwriter Damian Lynn. Another guerrilla activity was the large number of small advertisements that were placed in prominent locations in the city center.

For Krompholz, the opening ceremony is the ideal starting signal for the future at the new location. "Lucerne and the surrounding area is already considered an important region, which was previously served from Bern. We are therefore delighted to be closer to our existing customers and to build new partnerships," says Alexander Steinegger, who has been the owner of the company since 2014. The communication measures created by Stämpfli Kommunikation played a key role in the successful launch: Concept, booking of the artists, media cooperation with Radio 3fach, design of the hanging cardboard, flyers and posters, wall of fame and the shop window.

Unsolicited advertising calls remain the main annoyance

Swiss consumers were once again most annoyed this past year by unwanted sales calls—despite having an asterisk next to their names in the phone book—and related business practices.

This accounted for 36 percent of consumer protection consultations. This is slightly more than in the previous year, when the proportion was 33%, as the Foundation for Consumer Protection (SKS) announced on Monday with its annual list of annoyances. After advertising calls, unauthorized debt collection claims ranked second in the list of annoyances with 14%. These include "damage caused by delay", for example, which a debt collection agency claims even though a payment has crossed paths with the agency's reminder. As the SKS writes, such practices could increase in the coming year due to the statute of limitations on loss certificates. Annoyance number three is rejected guarantee claims. However, at 10 percent of consultations, their share fell slightly. Warranty claims for cell phones and cameras are often rejected due to alleged self-inflicted damage. There has been a significant increase in anger about Switzerland being a high-price island. After only 2% of consultations in 2014, 7% of complaints in the current year concerned high prices in Switzerland - for example at Europe-wide fashion chains. The SKS still considers a surcharge of 15 percent to be justified due to rents, infrastructure costs and exchange rate fluctuations. However, if a clothing store charges 60 percent more for a coat than in Spain, this goes too far, according to consumer protection.

Trouble number five can be summarized under the transport chapter. Five percent of consultations fall under this category, which is slightly more than in 2014. Consumers were annoyed by the new Swisspass instead of the Half-Fare and GA travelcards, for example. These are automatically renewed without notice. The exhaust emissions scandal at car manufacturer Volkswagen also raised eyebrows. (SDA)

A legend with rough edges

Serviceplan Suisse and Plan.Net Suisse are developing an international anniversary campaign for Ricola to celebrate the 75th anniversary of its herbal candy.

Ricola herbal sugar is different from other candies - namely, it is the only square one on the market. And unchanged by conviction for 75 years. A proverbial legend with rough edges. And it was precisely these that had to be showcased on the occasion of the herbal sugar's 75th birthday. Serviceplan Suisse is staging the straightforwardness of herbal sugar just as straightforwardly: with a striking print and POS campaign that is being used not only in Switzerland, but also in other markets.

Leo Burnett: Alpine elevator to Sihlcity

The world premiere of the new "Heidi" film took place at the Arena Cinemas in Sihlcity. To whet the appetite for the film, not only the two-legged but also the four-legged stars of the remake caused a stir before the screening.

With his herd of goats, Geissenpeter actor Quirin Agrippi marched from Enge station to Sihlcity. Accompanied by 20 Minuten and other media representatives as well as numerous shining children's eyes, the herd marched for once not through steep mountain slopes and rocky heaps, but over crosswalks and past streetcar stops. In addition to Quirin Agrippi and Heidi actress Anuk Steffen, the goats were also idolized by visitors to Sihlcity and made a popular subject for photos and petting.

Jaggy returned to Zurich in 2001 after working for several years in Hamburg and London for the launch of Jung von Matt/Limmat and has played a key role in the company's success and digital shift. Today, the agency brings together 85 employees from the areas of advertising, digital, social media, public relations, brand identity and data-driven online marketing.
