Kungfu advertising that works

The creative team of Ueli Bleuler and Frank Bernhardt has created a new campaign for Wing Tsun Schools Switzerland.

Since the kungfu skeleton has been flying across the billboards, the success curve has been pointing steeply upwards, according to a press release. After the start of the campaign in 2006, admissions quadrupled, and even in the crisis-ridden year of 2009, more students joined. Since New Year's Day, Ueli Bleuler and Frank Bernhardt, who are responsible for the campaign, have been displaying the next campaign theme. This time, the skeleton becomes a bodyguard thanks to sunglasses and ear buds. Because if you know how to protect yourself, you can scare off attackers with your self-confident appearance. The two subjects can be seen throughout Switzerland, individually and in a double pack.

Zurich SP wants to get away from "lust-hostile image" with SP beer

The Zurich SP is launching an «election beer,» banking on the relaxing effects of alcohol in its campaign. The city council candidates are «having a few drinks,» according to an invitation to a “political get-together.”.

The title is deliberately ambiguous. Advertising must attract attention, said Emanuel Wyler, a member of the SP's election campaign coordination team, when asked by SDA on Thursday. Alcoholism could indeed be a problem. "But most people who drink beer don't have an alcohol problem," said Wyler. The launch of the SP beer is therefore by no means sensitive from a socio-political point of view. The party wanted to move away from its "anti-pleasure image" with this campaign. "If we do something casual, we'll reach more people," Wyler continues. A special label on the beer should serve as an identifying mark and make it easier to get into conversation.
The party wants to have the beer from a local producer served in around twenty Zurich bars and restaurants.

Zenhäusern & Partner strengthens team

The Zurich-based agency Zenhäusern & Partner is strengthening its consulting team with the addition of Noëmi Baumann. The new employee has several years of experience in political communications, particularly in the healthcare sector.

During her studies, she gained experience as a PR assistant in the public affairs team at Burson Marsteller AG in Zurich. After graduating, she deepened her knowledge of political processes in the Political Rights Section of the Federal Chancellery. Most recently, Ms Baumann worked for the Bern-based PR agency Köhler, Stüdeli & Partner, which specializes in political communication. Swiss advertising with new examination board members

At the end of 2009, the board of Schweizer Werbung SW elected three new candidates to the examination board for communication planners and communication managers. The association also named Guillaume Morand as communicator of the month.

New members of the Audit Committee are Peter Kern, UBS AG, client representative; Andy Hostettler, TBWA, as agency representative and Ivan Schultheiss, APG, as representative of the media providers. These three individuals were elected for a term of office of three years.
The association awarded the Swiss Guillaume Morand, owner of a shoe shop chain - and not a Muslim - the Communicator of the Month award for December. He had a cardboard minaret erected on the chimney of his company building because of his anger at the outcome of the vote at the beginning of December. And although SW does not want to get involved in a socio-political debate - as far as the communication performance of this "deed" is concerned, only the businessman from the Lausanne region can actually be "Communicator of the Month", writes the association. "What is astonishing and remarkable from a communications point of view, however, is the fact that Morand's spontaneous action triggered a huge (media) avalanche, which - although there was no actual communications strategy behind Morand's actions - brought the Swiss entrepreneur into the international media and earned him worldwide media attention that would have been unaffordable by conventional means," SW continues. He therefore easily deserves the title of "Communicator of the Month".

Druckerei Schüpfheim and Willisauer Bote examine partnership

Druckerei Schüpfheim and Willisauer Bote Medien und Print are examining a strategic partnership. The general meetings of the two companies will have the final say and are expected to make a decision in early summer 2010.

The boards of directors of both companies have signed a letter of intent, according to a statement issued by SDA on Thursday. Over the next few months, they intend to disclose company data to each other and have the business divisions analyzed and evaluated by external experts.
Specifically, this involves merging the printing business and concentrating it at one location. Cooperation is also being sought at the publishing level. The aim is to preserve the strength of the individual media outlets as regionally anchored newspapers.
Situation stabilized
Willisauer Bote Medien und Print employs 85 people in Willisau, Sursee and Hochdorf. In addition to a printing plant in Sursee, it publishes the regional newspapers Willisauer Bote/Wiggertaler Bote and Seetaler Bote. Druckerei Schüpfheim (DSAG) employs 45 people. Reporters Without Borders: Iran again "biggest prison for information professionals"

The organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has criticized the imprisonment of numerous journalists in Iran.

Iran has "once again become the biggest prison for information professionals", according to an SDA statement published by the organization in Paris on Wednesday. There are currently 42 journalists and "internet dissidents" in prison in Iran. Since the most recent mass demonstrations by the Iranian opposition on 27 December, an "organized crackdown" by the security forces has been underway against opposition members and media representatives. Around 20 Iranians, including twelve journalists and internet dissidents, have been arrested. It is "very worrying" that the highest dignitaries in Iran have called for the maximum penalty to be imposed on the imprisoned opposition members, RSF stated. The international community must urgently intervene to prevent a "drama" and possibly even the execution of political prisoners.

Last but not least: From swan to duckling overnight

As we all know, beauty is fleeting. It’s also common knowledge that not everyone is lucky enough to be beautiful. But did you know that it’s possible to go from being beautiful to being unattractive—in other words, ugly—in just a few days?

This is what happened with over 5,000 members of the dating and networking community Beautyfulpeople.comwhere only beautiful people are welcome. Their downfall was that they ate and drank like crazy over the festive period. And probably put on a gram or two of body fat and got drunk in the process. No problem, we've all done it before. No problem? Not so for mindful members of the community: they called for action after discovering festive pictures of partying, gorging, drinking - in short, letting themselves go - newly ugly members on the site. The management of the community platform reacted promptly to the protests and quickly downgraded the worst eyesores to the so-called rating level, which is equivalent to reapplying for membership. The new applications were then assessed by current members, and lo and behold: only a few hundred were accepted again. For the rest, it's probably a case of slim down, slim down, slim down. And when the kilos are down again, they can reapply and have a real chance of being readmitted to the Beauty of Beauties. Unless, of course, their skin has become saggy and wrinkled - in other words, ugly - from all the weight loss...

TBWA\Zurich: Action realized on Facebook for Aids Help

The TBWA/Zurich agency, in collaboration with Aidshilfe Schweiz, has launched a campaign on Facebook designed to make users feel excluded.

It's hard to imagine how you feel as an HIV-positive person when you are ostracized and discriminated against at work, by friends and even by your family. TBWA\Zurich, together with Aids-Hilfe Schweiz, has triggered precisely this feeling among Facebook users in a unique campaign.
In collaboration with Serranetga, an application called "RED RIBBON NOW!" was launched for World AIDS Day on December 1, which spread an unpleasant message: with one click from the user, all their Facebook friends received the message that they had been deleted as a friend by the sender. Those who had apparently been deleted received the all-clear via a link: "Deleted by your friends? This is exactly how HIV-positive people feel when they are discriminated against."
Around December 1, 23,542 people experienced first-hand what exclusion feels like. More information can be found in the enclosed film about the campaign.
