Last but not least: How an Arab broadcaster destroyed the good image of a prince

As is well known, things are different in the Arab world than they are here. The following story confirms this once again.

The news channel Al-Arabiya did not broadcast an interview with one of 5,000 Saudi princes - and must now pay for this crime: the judges are demanding a whopping 25,000 francs fine from the broadcaster. Al-Arabiya had initially announced the interview with Prince Doctor Saif al-Islam bin Saud Abdul Aziz al-Saud, but later failed to broadcast it. Unbelievable - I wonder what the broadcaster was thinking? In any case, the judges thought that such impudence should be punished. After all, the monarch had suffered "emotional, moral and social damage to his image as a member of the royal family and as an academic"... poor thing!

Time Warner: Back in the black thanks to box office hits

Box-office hits such as *Sherlock Holmes* and *The Hangover* have helped the U.S. media conglomerate Time Warner return to profitability.

The net increase in the fourth quarter amounted to 627 million dollars, as Time Warner announced on Wednesday according to SDA.
Due to a huge write-down on its cable business, the parent company of news channel CNN and film studio Warner Bros posted a loss of 16 billion dollars in the same period last year. The economic crisis had left its mark on Time Warner, primarily due to falling advertising revenues. Last year, the Group therefore divested its cable business and the Internet subsidiary AOL in order to return to its roots such as film studios, publishing business and cable channels.
Excluding special items, earnings in the past quarter rose to 0.55 dollars per share from 0.19 dollars within a year. Sales climbed by two percent to 7.3 billion dollars, exceeding market expectations. Like rival News Corp, Time Warner announced an increase in the dividend. The Group also intends to triple its share buyback program to three billion dollars.

Study: Personalized online advertising is rejected by the majority

While personalized online advertising offers benefits to companies, the majority of users reject it. This is confirmed by a recent survey by Fittkau & Maaß Consulting, which found that one in two German users has reservations about personalized online ads.

The main reason for the widespread rejection is data protection concerns. More than half of users are concerned about this, and just as many find personalized advertising unpleasant and feel that they are being watched while surfing. "Although advertising on the internet is used to finance online services, which are mostly consumed free of charge, most internet users dislike it. Especially when they feel they are being spied on. Current discussions about the omnipotence of Google, for example, strongly fuel this suspicion", says Susanne Fittkau, Managing Director of Fittkau & Maaß, to Pressetext.
For advertisers, personalized online advertising is likely to become a balancing act between acceptance and reactance in the future, the authors of the study believe. This is because it can be assumed that the sector will continue to grow and the number of ads will increase, but at the same time the increase in personalized advertising could reinforce the negative impression on users. The fear is that this could increase the feeling of being "stalked".
As much as personalized advertising has a potentially positive effect for companies, it is also important to dispel the vehement concerns of users. Personalized product recommendations are also rejected by one in four. Clear supporters of personalized advertising only account for six percent. "In order to counteract the concerns of users, advertisers need to provide information about the methods used to personalize advertising. And for this knowledge to reach users, this 'advertising for advertising' must be at a perceptible level," says Fittkau.

Last but not least: Roland Nef and the media

Roland Nef no longer thinks much of the media after his inglorious departure as head of the army a year and a half ago. They are - together with scheming SVP members - to blame for the whole debacle. Despite his accusations, Nef sought refuge with one of these "evil" media outlets this week. He ventured into the "Talk Täglich" studio of Tele Züri.

"Hunt" and "battle to destroy the media" were the buzzwords Nef threw around at Markus Gilli on Monday evening. He himself was not to blame for the affair. Paradoxical, since it was primarily Nef's private misconduct towards his former partner that cost him his post as head of the army. Regarding the accusations, Nef said in the broadcast that he had never been legally convicted. He did not disclose any details - after all, it is a private matter. He also demanded that the media finally put an end to the accusations against him. However, Nef may have cut himself in half with his rehearsed "I am a victim, not a perpetrator" performance. After all, it was foreseeable that the other evil media would immediately report on Nef's visit to Tele Züri. Nef made it straight onto the front page of Blick.
