Allink.creative: Calendar designed for customers of Luzerner Kantonalbank

The agency Allink.creative has designed a calendar for the private banking clients of Luzerner Kantonalbank.

Every year, LUKB thanks its wealthy customers with an exclusive gift that is themed around the respective UN year. The UN has declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity. Luzerner Kantonalbank wants to emphasize the importance of preserving and promoting biodiversity with this calendar, the agency writes in a press release. In order to create a regional reference, Allink.creative has dedicated itself entirely to the diverse flora of Lucerne and presents it in a unique light. The selected plants were treated with a contrast agent and then x-rayed. This makes the inner life of the plants visible. Twelve subjects were then created using digital image processing. The color and shape of the subjects were matched to the respective months.
The calendar was produced in a limited edition of 2600 copies.
Responsible at Allink.creative: David Zangger (creative direction), Roswitha Brülisauer (graphics/layout), Henry Gillis (retouching/image editing), Monika Jagodzinski (image editing). Responsible at Luzerner Kantonalbank AG: Christof Strässle (Member of the Executive Board), Luzia Fallegger (Project Management).

Survey on Mediaforum.ch: E-readers instead of paper?

If the prognosticators are to be believed, we will consume every form of information on screens in the future. But does this also apply to printed newspapers and magazines? Mediaforum has launched a survey on this topic.

Is there even a user need for e-readers? And are readers prepared to pay for digital media offerings, which are still largely free on the Internet? Mediaforum wanted to find out more and has set up a new industry barometer survey on this current topic, in which a total of 443 people took part.
The majority of respondents (48 %) believe that newspapers and magazines belong on paper and not on e-readers. Five percent would use e-readers in the future - but only if they did not have to pay for the content. The results at a glance:

Pro Sieben Sat.1 with 144.5 million euros profit

Pro Sieben Sat.1 returned to profitability in 2009 thanks to improved performance in the fourth quarter and a strict cost-cutting program.

The bottom line profit amounted to 144.5 million euros, the TV company announced in Munich on Wednesday. The result was therefore better than analysts had expected. In 2008, the company had suffered a loss of around 129 million euros due to write-downs on its competitor SBS, which was acquired in 2007.
Last year, turnover fell by almost ten percent to 2.76 billion euros. In the fourth quarter, however, the company was able to increase its revenue slightly, thus halting the recent negative trend. Following the surprising announcement of the key figures, the share price increased. Debt fell by 112 million to 3.3 billion euros at the end of the year.

MTV removes "music" from its logo

The music channel MTV has finally moved on from its original image and removed «Music Television» from its logo.

As US media report according to the press release, the logo has been redesigned and now only shows the capital "M" and "TV". It will now also feature photos of MTV starlets from the reality TV shows as required. "We thought about it in a way that brings the brand and our talent together in the same place," said Tina Exarhos, Executive Vice President of Marketing at MTV.
The move comes as little surprise, as MTV has long since moved away from its core program and is now focusing on various formats outside of music and music videos. If you look at the channel, you can see that it is definitely heading in a new direction, says Exarhos. "The change to the logo currently only affects the US market," said MTV Germany when asked by Pressetext. In the USA, however, further changes are already being considered. As Exarhos mentions, a general redesign is being planned for the end of the year. While other areas of the channel have been repeatedly redesigned over time, the logo has remained essentially unchanged to this day.
Criticism of new program
For some years now, MTV has had to put up with a lot of criticism for showing fewer and fewer music videos and more and more reality TV shows and the like. Music and music-related programs have mainly been outsourced to sister channels such as MTV2 or MTV Hits. The fact that "Music Television" has now also been removed from the logo seems to be the final commitment to the new direction. "Music is still the core of everything we do, but now it's about a lot more," says Exarhos. If MTV didn't change, the channel would be irrelevant by now, believe those responsible.

HD radio: Five private radio stations to launch in September 2010

The five private radio stations Radio Argovia, Radio Basel, Capital FM, Radio 24 and Radio Sunshine want to start using HD radio technology from September and broadcast their programs digitally in future. The necessary applications were submitted to the Federal Office of Communications (Bakom) at the end of January.

In the first stage of digitization, around 80 percent of the commercial listener potential is to be covered, according to a communiqué issued on Tuesday. Radio digitization enables broadcasters to diversify their content, i.e. to offer additional terrestrially broadcast programmes and services such as surround sound or iTunes tagging. HD radio is received via a special HD device. When HD radio is launched in Switzerland, "combi receivers" that can receive FM, DAB+ and HD radio will also be available.

TV usage: Set-top boxes should be freely selectable

Users of digital television should no longer have to use the set-top box of their cable network provider. The federal government wants to amend the law to ensure that they have a free choice of reception device.

According to SDA, the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) opened a hearing on Wednesday. Interested parties have until May 10 to comment. A set-top box is required to receive digital television. This device is rented out by the providers, which has been criticized since the early days of digital television. The digital signals are encrypted so that an alternative set-top box cannot simply be purchased, and there have been increasing calls for a ban on encryption. However, the regulation that the federal government is now proposing does not ban encryption. Rather, the providers themselves can decide how they want to guarantee the free choice of set-top box, as the Uvek writes in a report.
If providers do not forego encryption, they will now be obliged to offer their customers a basic package of at least 50 television channels that can also be consumed with freely available set-top boxes. This requires them to offer an access authorization system with plug-in cards that can be inserted into third-party receivers. The Uvek stipulates that the plug-in card system may not be more expensive than the subscription price for the basic offer with a separate set-top box.
Exemption for Swisscom
For the time being, the new obligation does not apply to telecommunications service providers such as Swisscom, which distribute their programs via the Internet Protocol (IPTV) (formerly Bluewin TV). Unlike cable network operators and Internet TV providers, they benefit from a two-year transitional arrangement. This is justified for technical reasons, writes the Uvek. The decoding of program offerings via IPTV is currently only possible with the provider's own set-top box. IPTV is a comparatively young technology, the Uvek points out.

Photographer Stefan Jermann with a new website

Swiss photographer Stefan Jermann, who specializes in portraits, people and reportage, has launched a new website.

After around six months of development, the baby was finally born, he is quoted as saying in a press release. His intention was to create a clear and uncluttered new website with an integrated CMS and database. According to Jermann, potential customers should be able to reach their destination and access the desired portfolio in just a few seconds.
Among other things, Jermann created the CI campaign for the new agency Kultmarke, whose heads are the advertiser Reinhold Weber and cult maker Rainer Kuhn. He also acted as picture editor for the luxury supplement of the Tagesanzeiger newspaper and shaped its photography with portraits and reports. Jermann also publishes limited edition books and the magazine of the same name under his Truce label.
