Zurich Zoo wins Swiss Poster Award 2009

The Zurich Zoo won the 2009 Swiss Poster Award for the «Elephant Enclosure» poster created by the agency Advico Young&Rubicam. A total of eleven prizes were awarded at the APG Poster Night on March 4, 2010. The jury awarded four of the coveted trophies to the creative team at Ruf Lanz in Zurich.

At the APG Poster Night on March 4, 2010, the "Elephant enclosure" poster was voted the best poster and thus won the "Swiss Poster Award 2009". On behalf of Zurich Zoo, the agency Advico Young&Rubicam succeeded in claiming the coveted prize for itself. The jury, headed by President Othmar Casutt, was particularly impressed by the fact that the designers used the "given" format of the poster to impressively demonstrate the narrowness of the existing elephant enclosure, according to a press release.
The Ruf Lanz agency is one of the big winners of this year's competition: the Zurich agency took home four of the eleven prizes. The jury members also awarded it the special prize for the "Muskelkraft Leuchtplakat" campaign. This year, for the first time, this prize was awarded in the "Poster Innovations" category.

According to the press release, it is intended to unite the various offers into a coherent yet differentiated visual appearance and present Switzerland as a vacation destination that is traditional, modern and future-oriented. Web analytics: Google dominant, Swiss market has some catching up to do

In Switzerland, Google Analytics is by far the most popular tracking solution, but overall, web analytics tools are surprisingly rarely used in this country. This is shown by the study «Web Analytics in Switzerland,» published by Angelink Yourposition.

For the study, the Zurich-based search engine marketing and web analytics agency examined over 800 websites, from niche blogs and online stores to the websites of large companies. The tracking tools used were measured, from Google Analytics, WebTrends or Omniture to solutions such as Etracker, Piwik or Xiti.
The results show that web analytics is still in its infancy in Switzerland: a third of all websites examined do not use a tracking tool even in 2010, and it is the online store segment that is the most sinful: 35% of all Swiss store operators do not use user tracking (USA: 12%). However, if tracking tools are installed, 80 percent of them are Google Analytics. Only in the segment of large companies have paid solutions, above all WebTrends, been able to retain a certain market share, presumably mainly due to data protection considerations.
"The fact that so many websites - and online stores in particular - still refrain from optimizing their websites and marketing with web analytics methods from the outset is astonishing," comments Beat Muttenzer, Managing Director of Angelink Yourposition, on the result. "This leads us to believe that in many other cases, data is collected but hardly ever evaluated and used."

Publisuisse achieved a "good" business result in 2009

In fiscal year 2009, Publisuisse generated net revenue of slightly more than 295 million Swiss francs. This fell short of the previous year's figure of 327 million Swiss francs (-10 percent).

Net sales from the marketing of traditional TV advertising for SRG channels amounted to just over CHF 267 million (-9%), as the company announced on Thursday. The other business areas (TV and radio sponsorship, Tele Romandie Combi, Tele News Combi, "Espace TSR" screens) also recorded a decline (-18 percent) compared to the previous year, totaling CHF 28 million. This was partly due to the absence of major sporting events in 2009. Net profit after tax amounted to CHF 0.5 million. The negative effect on Publisuisse's result due to the significant drop in sales in the crisis year 2009 was kept within limits thanks to appropriate cost management. The resulting profit can be considered a good result in view of the adverse economic circumstances, the company writes.
Outlook for 2010
The positive trend towards the end of 2009 appears to be continuing in the new year, as the current sales level in TV advertising for the first quarter is well above the previous year's figure. The noticeable recovery in the economic situation and the two major sporting events (Winter Olympics and Football World Cup) should also have a positive impact on the 2010 business result.

Last but not least: How iPhone and Facebook are dividing society

The iPhone is a huge hit in Switzerland, too. And thanks to the new Kommtech study, we now know who the device has to thank for its success—namely, bosses, executives, and high earners. The situation is exactly the opposite when it comes to social networks.

16% of managers, but only 5% of the population as a whole, cite the iPhone as their most frequently used cell phone. More than half of the users of this device also have a monthly income of over CHF 9,000. Clearly a matter for the boss, the iPhone.
The situation is different with Twitter, Facebook and the like. Certain groups such as journalists, IT companies or companies from the Internet and social media environment have long been active on social media. But if you search for traditional companies on Twitter or Facebook, you still come across a sparsely populated community. Matthias Lüfkens, Head of Communications at the World Economic Forum Wef, doesn't like this at all - at this year's E-Day, he wants to address precisely these traditional entrepreneurs and dispel unfounded fears of contact. Lüfkens told Pressetext that a professional presence on social networks is standard today. This is something that every managing director, every boss has to do themselves and not hand over to media departments. Maintaining the Twitter channel or Facebook page takes no longer than half an hour and should be part of the compulsory program every morning, just like looking at the newspaper. That's right. Twitter away, bosses and managers. And buy your iPhones, common people. Down with the two-tier society!
