SDA: Confederation does not want to pay more than three million for reports

The current service agreement between the Swiss Confederation and the Swiss News Agency (SDA) expires at the end of the year. A new agreement is currently being negotiated. An increase in the annual contribution of three million Swiss francs is out of the question for the Federal Council. Federal Chancellor Corina Casanova made this clear on Monday during question time in the National Council.

National Councillor Daniel Vischer (Greens/ZH) wanted to know what the Federal Council had to say "about a monopoly in such a sensitive area". Since the Swiss office of the Deutscher Depeschendienst (ddp) was closed, only the SDA still offers a domestic service. Vischer asked why the SDA was "spending money on creating a monopoly" and at the same time asking the federal government for higher subsidies. Casanova said that SDA was a company under private law and that the federal government had no insight into its business. The Federal Chancellery is not aware of any request for higher subsidies. The federal government has no influence on the prices that SDA negotiates with its other customers. It also remains to be seen how much the Confederation will pay SDA under the Language Act. The Federal Council is not indifferent to the fact that SDA is the only agency in Switzerland to offer a domestic service. However, it does not wish to comment on this at the moment.

SFLB for Swisscanto: With a pet to fund units

SFLB has created an online contest for Swisscanto. Anyone who submits a photo of themselves and their pet can win mutual fund shares worth a total of 10,000 francs.

The theme of the competition, which is being advertised on various websites and via various cantonal banks and Bank Coop, ties in with last year's fund promotion by Swisscanto. Under the motto "the right partner makes you happy", a campaign was launched that focused on the analogy between investment products and pets. What is true for pets is also true for investment funds: the right choice is crucial, according to the advertisers. The website is now available Swisscanto-partner.ch to upload your own photos, rate others or win one of five Sony digital cameras in the additional partner memory.

Responsible at Swisscanto: Sibylle Mangold (Head of Service Marketing), Monika Hartmeier (Project Manager Marketing). Responsible at Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett: Reto Clement (AD) Christian Stüdi (Text), Patrick Suter (CD), Ivana Giannakis, Sarah Kappeler, Pam Hügli (Consulting); Update (Online).

SRG survey on the online presence of the regional journal

For some time now, all regional journals have been represented by a uniform website under the umbrella of Drs.ch. The SRG Bern Fribourg Valais program commission has now evaluated the website. The offer, the design and the navigation were assessed positively. There was some criticism of the archive and the search function.

The commission assessed the clarity, design, user guidance and the dossiers of the Website positive overall. The archive and the search function were criticized. The members of the Program Commission criticized the confusing presentation of the results and the lack of an option to limit the search for programmes. The archive symbol was also the subject of discussion. The stylized calendar was judged to be too small and difficult to find. The majority of commission members visit the regional journal's website to listen to programs they have missed. However, only a few use the website as a news portal.

13th Spotlight Festival: The balance sheet

This weekend marked the thirteenth edition of Spotlight. After twelve years in Upper Swabia and on Lake Constance, the German Advertising Film Festival took place in Mannheim for the first time in 2010. Around 2,000 visitors packed the sold-out Mozartsaal. The 2009/2010 advertising season featured a striking number of socially conscious commercials that addressed climate change, social justice, and the search for humanity.

It is already clear that Spotlight will remain in Mannheim for five years. The Spotlight awards are always decided twice. Firstly, by an expert jury with representatives from agencies, production and universities. Secondly, however, by the live and digital voting public itself.
A host of new, often cross-media platforms for advertising have emerged. Spotlight has gradually adapted its sections and price categories to this changing environment. In addition to the supreme discipline of tv & cinema, these are web & mobile for advertising on the Internet and for cell phones, no limits for all other formats of the rapidly developing moving image advertising communication and, in cooperation with Pforzheim University, Spotlight Visions as a future prize for the advertising of tomorrow. To mark the start at the new location, the festival is also cooperating with a nationally renowned Mannheim organization: the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg. The Spotlight Music Award honored the best audio branding for the Spotlight International Advertising Film Festival. Popakademie students had developed proposals based on a briefing; a preliminary jury nominated two of them. Which of these two finalists would win was decided on the Spotlight evening, as with the other prizes, by the audience via digital voting. The prizes in this competition are endowed and amounted to CHF 7,500. The student gold winners of the audience awards are also endowed. The Film Commission Metropolregion Rhein-Neckar donated the CHF 1,000 prize money for each award.
Festival directors Peter Frey and Thomas Falkenstein were responsible for the program. Spotlight is supported by the City of Mannheim, MFG Filmförderung Baden-Württemberg, Landesanstalt für Kommunikation LfK and the Baden-Württemberg State Ministry. The scientific partner is Pforzheim University.

The Ringier Group is threatening to sue the Klein Report.

Last but not least: Coca-Cola is now rejoicing

Coca-Cola presented its World Cup campaign in Munich's Allianz Arena on Wednesday. The motto of the campaign is: "Show us your goal celebration".

However, the campaign will not be launched until April 6. The drinks giant will then be encouraging Germany to cheer - in an integrated campaign with celebrity support. Miro Klose shows his cheering somersault in a TV commercial and the Cameroonian Roger Millas performs his corner flag dance. This was announced by Wuv.de on Thursday. The commercial will be accompanied by music from Somali musician K'naan. The commercial was developed by the Argentinian agency Santo. The Berlin agency Mc Cann Erickson is responsible for the German version with Klose. In the Intermet, Oliver Pocher performs his own corner flag dance variation and calls on Internet users to upload their own goal celebration scenes. The beverage giant has set up its own YouTube channel for this purpose.
The marketing director does not want to reveal the size of the budget for the World Cup campaign, except to say that it is in the double-digit million range and should generate around 1.5 billion contacts. This will be achieved not only by spots on the Internet and television, but also through a cooperation with the collector's picture provider Panini. In any case, Coca-Cola will be cheering no matter how the World Cup goes.

First TV commercial in the history of Manor

Manor is unveiling the first TV advertising campaign in its nearly 110-year history. The first part of the commercial, directed by renowned British director Laurence Dunmore, will air for the first time on Sunday evening.

Until April 1, it will be broadcast during prime time on 16 national and international channels in Switzerland. Three additional versions of the TV commercial, each tailored to the season, will follow through the end of the year.
The commercial tells the story, in four episodes, of how dreams inspire people to turn their everyday lives into something special. Director Laurence Dunmore, known for his film ’The Libertine,« shot more than 10,000 meters of film for the commercial. The 59-second film was produced in South Africa and Slovenia, in collaboration with the advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi and the film production company The Gang Films, Paris.
The "French Touch" that is synonymous with Manor was embodied by the two Parisian lead actors, Gaëlle Hérisson and Jean Paturel. The film's soundtrack, sung by Yasmin Shah Felidat, was written specifically for Manor by Gilles Camus.
The movie will be available starting Monday, March 8, at 9:00 a.m. on Manor.ch It will air starting tonight through April 1 during prime time on the following channels in Switzerland: SF1, SF2, SF Info, TSR1, TSR2, RTL, RTL2, Pro7, Sat1, 3+, Vox, RSI1, RSI2, RTL9, TRC, and M6.

Comedia; Is critical journalism becoming a scarce commodity?

The media industry has come under severe pressure during the economic crisis. Is there a risk that critical journalism will become scarce?

The sharp decline in advertising revenue was followed by permanent job losses. Now the Swiss media union Comedia has declared a job crisis. The media landscape is being destroyed, as Stephanie Vonarburg, Central Secretary for the Press and Electronic Media Sector at Comedia, emphasized in an interview with Pressetext. Critical journalism is in a bad way.
A gigantic concentration process is underway in which the industry is shrinking to a few remaining media companies, says the industry expert. However, they are also reaching critical limits if they continue to bleed their editorial offices dry.
According to the media union, around 1,000 jobs have been lost in the Swiss media sector since fall 2008. And the job cuts are still continuing. Just yesterday it was announced that Espace Media intends to cut seven full-time jobs at Berner Bär. Entrepreneurs are also losing valuable experience and know-how as a result of the cutbacks, Comedia points out.
As a result, media coverage is increasingly coming from the press departments in corporations. Vonarburg explains that the leaner editorial teams are increasingly at the mercy of PR offices and communications departments and are dependent on their preparatory work. There is a danger that criticism in journalism will become a scarce commodity, even though the remaining journalists are still trying to do a good job.
