With 95 entries, this year's award had the third-highest number of participants ever registered. A 24-member jury headed by Ralph Büchi, CEO Axel Springer Switzerland and President Axel Springer International, assessed the effectiveness of the marketing campaigns in a two-stage process: In a first round, all submitted cases were assessed online, in three groups of eight people. 45 submissions with an above-average score in their category were shortlisted, which were discussed by the entire jury in a second round and from which the 15 award winners were selected.
All nominated cases are summarized in the book "Swiss Effie 2010", which can be obtained from the BSW Leading Swiss Agencies office. Online or by e-mail to [email protected]. All winning campaigns - including those from 1999 to 2008 - will be available from the beginning of May on Effie.chBest of Effie. The next Swiss Effie will be held in 2012.

SRG: Cost-cutting measures at RTR

The smallest SRG business unit, Radio e Televisiun Rumantscha (RTR), had to tighten its belt last year. Savings measures amounting to CHF 750,000 were taken at Rhaeto-Romanic radio and television.

Savings were made in administration and production. In order to maintain the current range of programs until 2015, RTR is dependent on an additional CHF 1.2 million per year, said Director Mariano Tschuor on Tuesday in Chur. An expansion of the television program has not yet been taken into account and is not an issue at the moment. RTR's radio and television program costs CHF 21 million per year. According to Tschuor, 23 million francs are needed in the medium term to fulfill the programming mandate.
The new RTR project entitled "Las Alps infoteca" was presented on Tuesday. The plan is to set up a competence center for the media in the Alps in Chur. This is to deal with topics that concern people throughout the Alpine arc. The plan is to set up a network to offer these topics to an international audience. In a second step, "Las-Alps- infoteca" will produce its own journalistic products. RTR is launching the project, but the organization has yet to be founded. The information platform will be presented in detail at a conference in Chur in November. RTR boss Tschuor emphasized that the project will not be financed with licence fee money. Partners would have to be found in order to establish a supporting company.

Media Prize AG/SO: AZ, Radio 32 and SF honored

The 12th Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize with a prize money of CHF 12,000 goes to Sabine Altorfer (Aargauer Zeitung) and Marco Jaggi (Radio 32) as well as Hanspeter Bäni and Nicole Vögele (both Schweizer Fernsehen). There was no prize in the newly launched photography category.

Culture editor Sabine Altorfer received the award for the series "Leuchttürme" (Lighthouses), in which she shed light on cultural policy in Aargau. A radio report on the last ride on the old chairlift up Solothurn's local mountain, Weissenstein, earned journalist Marco Jaggi the media prize. At the award ceremony in Olten SO, the jury honored TV reporter Hanspeter Bäni for the fourth time. He was honored for his report "Caring until death", which was broadcast on Swiss television. In the TV category, journalist Nicole Vögele also received the award for her short report on breakdancers. The report was shown on the SF news program "10 vor 10".

Photos not convincing
The expert jury, headed by President Peter Schellenberg, had to assess a total of 100 entries. The prize in the photography category, which was announced for the first time, was not awarded. The quality of the entries did not yet fully convince the jury, as the Aargau/Solothurn Media Prize Association writes in a press release. The pictures "could not completely avoid the accusation of arbitrariness".
The media prize is awarded by the media companies based in the cantons of Aargau and Solothurn and by the two cantonal governments. The aim of the prize is to recognize and promote journalistic quality in regional reporting.

Roger Köppel receives Ludwig Erhard Prize

Roger Köppel, publisher and editor-in-chief of *Die Weltwoche*, is receiving the Ludwig Erhard Prize for Economic Journalism. The award comes with a prize of 10,000 euros and will be presented in Berlin.

The prize was donated by former German Chancellor Ludwig Erhard. The prize is awarded annually to journalistic or academic contributions that contribute to the promotion of liberalism and the social market economy, as Weltwoche Verlags AG announced on Tuesday. Roger Köppel is the fourth Swiss to receive the Ludwig Erhard Prize after Willy Linder, Gerhard Schwarz and Thomas Straubhaar. The second winner this year is the German business journalist Karen Horn.

New radio station brings the Alps to the Central Plateau

Swiss Mountain Holiday Radio (SMHR) will be available via DAB+ from May 1. Together with seven parent radio stations, the new channel aims to offer entertainment to the inhabitants of the Mittelland and make the Alpine region attractive as a vacation destination.

The SMHR program will consist of 70 to 80 percent musical entertainment with a large proportion of Swiss music. With half-hourly program contributions from the regions of the parent radio stations - Neo 1, Neo 2 (Emmental, Entlebuch), Radio Rottu Oberwallis, Radio Freiburg, Radio BeO (Bernese Oberland), Radio Grischa and Radio Engiadina (both canton Graubünden) - listeners will also be kept up to date on what is happening in their vacation regions or second homes. The news can be heard on the hour and is delivered by Radio Grischa. SMHR is also a project of the Chur University of Applied Sciences (HTW). Students of Multimedia Production with a focus on radio provide additional content.

Last but not least: An office veteran is looking for …

A very special cinema slide is currently standing out from the advertisements flickering across the screen at Zurich’s Riffraff cinema.

The female rabbit pictured here wants to sell nothing less than herself—as a back-office manager to an employer with a sense of humor. Let’s hope the picture has the desired effect and that the resourceful rabbit finds what she’s looking for soon. In any case, we wish her the best of luck.

Exxtra hits the mark for Delizio

The Exxtra agency has designed a flyer for the Swiss National Shooting Festival, which will be sent to the shooters along with the shooting booklet.

Because even professional and amateur shooters get tired sometimes and like to have a coffee to recharge their batteries, the Delizio brand will be present at the Swiss Shooting Festival this year. Delizio will be providing visitors with fine coffee in its own lounge. Exxtra Kommunikation has developed a flyer to match this presence, which will be sent to 50,000 shooters together with the shooting booklet. The flyer shows that shooting and coffee are not so far apart. The flyer also invites shooters to drink a coffee for just CHF 2 at the Delizio Bar and take advantage of the special offer on coffee machines at the shooting festival. They can also take part in a competition.
The Federal Shooting Festival takes place from June 18 to July 18 in Aarau.

Study: Two fifths of online users would pay money for quality journalism

According to a study, an increasing number of Internet users are now willing to pay for cultural content online.

Two-fifths (39%) of online users are now prepared to pay for quality journalism in particular - provided that high-quality articles are no longer available for free, the technology industry association Bitkom reported in Berlin on Monday, according to SDA. Almost a quarter (22%) of internet users would be willing to pay for specialist literature in digital form. 19 percent would be prepared to pay for films from the Internet, 18 percent for music and nine percent for entertainment literature. A good quarter (26%) of Internet users would be prepared to pay a monthly flat rate for all cultural content on the Internet if it were freely available. Those in favor of such a flat rate would spend between one and ten euros.
For the representative study, the research company Aris surveyed 1,000 people aged 14 and over on behalf of Bitkom.
