Wirz Cocktail celebrates its 40th anniversary

The 40th Wirzcocktail focused on the topic of happiness and how to become happy. Graziella Contratto, Bastien Girod, Gabriela Manser, and Alois Stutzer participated in the panel discussion. Over 250 guests accepted the Wirz Group’s invitation.

After the Danes, the Swiss population is the happiest in the world. Thomas Städeli, CEO of Wirz Werbung, opened the evening with this statement. Moderated by Andrea Vetsch from Swiss television, an interesting and entertaining panel discussion on the many facets of happiness followed. According to Gabriela Manser, who used to be a nursery school teacher and now runs the Gontenbad mineral spring, everyone is the architect of their own happiness. With a positive attitude, it is easier to seize the opportunities for happiness that present themselves and to realize moments of happiness. Happiness researcher Dr. Alois Stutzer, on the other hand, looked at the economic factors that make people happy. In addition to a satisfying job, intangible things and social contacts are particularly important for a lasting sense of happiness, whereas material things usually only make you happy for a short time. Bastien Girod agreed with the economics professor. He is convinced that politics can also contribute to the "overall happiness balance" of the population by creating the right framework conditions, for example through socially and ecologically sustainable policies. Conductor and artistic director Graziella Contratto experiences moments of satisfaction and happiness when she brings an orchestra into perfect balance. The panel agreed that it is important to sharpen one's awareness of happiness in order not only to constantly chase happiness, but also to recognize it at the right time.
A summary of the panel discussion with the most important comments made by the panelists and the guests' comments on the evening will be available from November 26, 2010 on Wirz.ch viewable.

Last but not least: The hood that protects against rattling noise

Anyone who likes to pound away at the keyboard loudly and vigorously in the office is bound to annoy their coworkers. Until now, these passionate keyboard tormentors have had to put up with dirty looks, people pointedly plugging their ears with earplugs, or annoyed head-shaking.

But that is now a thing of the past. Thanko has invented a soundproof keyboard cover. This is not a sophisticated high-tech solution, but a simple, analog product: the cover is slipped over the keyboard and you can start hacking away in the old typewriter style as you please

BaZ sale: Tettamanti has made a "small profit"

According to his own statements, Ticino financier Tito Tettamanti made a «small profit» on the sale of the Basler Zeitung (BaZ). However, it was certainly not the deal of a lifetime, Tettamanti said.

The 80-year-old lawyer came down hard on the people of Basel. A militant minority had turned the city, which prides itself on being cosmopolitan, into a hypocritical provincial town, said Tettamanti on Thursday in the "Modem" program on the radio station of Italian-speaking Switzerland (RSI), according to SDA. Intolerance towards other opinions is a sign of a lack of intelligence. Basel had been shamed and humiliated. An intellectual monoculture reigned at the Rhine bend. Tettamanti compared the situation to communism after the Second World War.
In Basel, the Ticino native has become an "enemy of the people" in his own opinion. He can cope with the fact that the anger was directed at him personally: "If people on the street like it, then I'm a loser. If a head needs to roll to restore a relationship of trust, then it should roll." Tettamanti went on to say that he had decided to withdraw in the interests of the company. He described the sale of BaZ to Crossair founder Moritz Suter as the ideal solution. He hoped that everyone would now be satisfied and that the situation would return to normal. "The editorial team has the right to be able to work in peace," said Tettamanti.
