World Book Day and Easter together

World Book Day, proclaimed by UNESCO, is celebrated on Easter Saturday. Because the date falls at an inconvenient time this year due to the Easter holidays, the seventh edition is being somewhat overlooked in Switzerland. Instead of readings, there are chocolate bunnies; last year’s slogan, «Switzerland Reads. You, too?» is being reused, and even the promotional video sponsored by media partner SRG is from last year.

Half of the 120 registered events consist of giving away free chocolate with the purchase of a book. In German-speaking Switzerland, many bookshops are giving out a chocolate bunny with every book purchase - "while stocks last"; in French-speaking Switzerland, chocolate letters are being handed out instead, as reported by the SDA on Monday. The gift-giving ties in with the origins of World Book Day: In Catalonia, Spain, it is traditional to give books and roses as gifts on St. George's Day.

However, some bookshops, libraries and organizations are also celebrating World Book Day this year with readings and reading promotion campaigns. At Zurich Zoo, for example, children will receive the musical book "King Alphons and Kurt the Camel" by Frank Baumann as a gift; at Aarau City Library, politicians will reveal their reading preferences, and in Liestal, Christoph Simon's "Häsin Mels, Hase Fitz und der Teichgruselgolz" will be read aloud to mark the occasion. In St. Gallen, a prize will be awarded for the most beautiful photo on the theme "Here I like to read...". In other places there will be book swaps or book boxes with literature, games, comics and audio books will be distributed.

SFLB: Two mountain people sent to the city for Switzerland Tourism

Switzerland Tourism's international summer campaign was launched on Monday. One of the heavyweights are the cities. These are being promoted with a film created by SFLB and shot by Michael Fueter, in which two mountain people visit a city for the first time.

The main actors are again the two "Stone chunk carrier" Sebi Küttel and Paul Betschart. In the new spot by Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett, they visit a Swiss city for the first time: The two mountain people drive there in an old Rapid and experience a completely different world from their usual one: They visit museums, eat in fancy restaurants, visit the swimming pool, buy underwear for their wives and enjoy the nightlife in detail at a late hour - until they drive back to the countryside early in the morning. With the spot, Switzerland Tourism wants to show how diverse Swiss cities are - from museums to exciting nightlife, you can simply find it all.

Sebi and Paul - two mountain people as advertising stars

Sebi Küttel and Paul Betschart are two genuine Central Swiss outdoorsmen. Betschart is a mountain farmer, Sebi Küttel works at the Rigibahn. And what's more - according to Peter Brönnimann, Executive Creative Director at SFLB - they are not only nature boys, but also natural acting talents. During filming, he says, they also realized that the story of the two mountain men in the city was truly authentic. Brönnimann: "For example, Paul Betschart, who is a mountain farmer in Muotathal, said after filming in Geneva's city pool: "Eh, now I've been to a pool after all."" It was actually the first time Betschart had been to a swimming pool.

Sebi and Paul will not only be encountered in the city spot this summer, but also on other measures. For example, they will be used as protagonists for the partnership between Switzerland Tourism and UBS. In addition, they can be seen in a new, interactive film on MySwitzerland.com from mid-May.

The city film will be used in Switzerland as a 58-second TV spot, but will also be used internationally - including in England, Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Russia and China.

TV presenters' side jobs: planned regulation delayed

The proposed rules requiring TV hosts to turn over a portion of their income from side jobs to the SRG are taking a long time to materialize. One year after the announcement by then-Media Minister Moritz Leuenberger, the SRG says the matter has been delayed due to «more pressing issues.».

SRG confirmed a report by the Observer on Monday at the request of the news agency SDA. A little over a year ago, it became known that Leuenberger had new regulations drawn up. These were to oblige TV presenters to hand over part of their additional income to SRG in the future.

SRG has clear guidelines for the side jobs of Swiss TV stars. However, the financial aspect of these appearances is not regulated. Until now, the fees have flowed entirely into the presenters' coffers - even though they owe their popularity to their TV appearances and thus to their employer SRG.

In mid-April last year, SRG said that work had already begun. Following a meeting of the SRG Compensation Committee in mid-March 2010, the Director General had instructed the Human Resources department and Legal Services to draw up a regulation proposal for the attention of the Executive Board.

Now, however, the deal has apparently stalled. SRG's head of communications Max Gurtner said on Monday that the company was in contact with the responsible department Uvek: "The deal is delayed because of other, more urgent issues and dossiers. Further steps and information are expected in the summer, he said. (SDA)

Last but not least: "Good feeling" to win

The Reformed Church has come up with a unique idea to discourage disengaged members from leaving the church: scratch-off lottery tickets.

Distant members are people who pay church taxes but never go to church - according to estimates by the Aargau church, the driving force behind the campaign, around 50 percent of members. The fact that they do not attend church services on Sunday is a nuisance. But it would of course be even worse if they no longer contributed financially. The gambling campaign therefore aims to show what is being done with church taxes. Starting on August 26, reformed people - the target is 1.3 million - are asked to scratch for two weeks. The prize is "a good feeling". Anyone who hits the target will choose a church project that will receive a sum of money.

It is currently difficult to predict whether the campaign will be a success. It depends not only on the enthusiasm of the distanced members. Publicity campaigns by the Reformed Church usually trigger mixed feelings among its members anyway (NZZ am Sonntag). Added to this is the cantonal spirit: each cantonal church can decide for itself whether it wants to participate or not. This means that while the cantons of Aargau, Bern, Jura, Solothurn and Zurich, for example, are allowed to rub shoulders, the people of Basel are denied the chance to win the good feeling. That makes for bad blood!

The city of Lucerne now communicates on Facebook and Twitter

Since Monday, the city of Lucerne has been active on Facebook and Twitter. It hopes this will lead to more dialogue and more direct contact with the public. The online publisher Blogwerk supported the city in its foray into social media.

Anyone interested in the city of Lucerne now has new ways to stay up to date: On Facebook and Twitter, the City on the Reuss publishes news, project information, events and tips for the public and visitors. The "fans" on Facebook and the "followers" on Twitter can comment on the activities. In order to gain experience, a pilot test will be carried out with a few departments of the city administration until the end of the year. The pilot test will be evaluated by the city council at the beginning of 2012 and a decision will be made on how to proceed.

Blogwerk has been supporting the city of Lucerne in this pilot project since August 2010. Blogwerk has already encountered many of the challenges it has faced in companies, as the company announced on Monday. "How do you speak in social media, how do you deal with criticism, what is relevant content and how can you package it? " However, many things were new. For example, the internally quite complex structure of a large community should not be noticeable to the fan; a uniform image must be conveyed.

WVC Communications promotes Turmix relaunch

The long-established Swiss brand Turmix is launching a new fully automatic coffee maker this fall. WVC Communications is promoting the launch with the cross-media advertising campaign «Turmix Just Touch.».

The new product line is characterized by easy-to-understand coffee preparation. Just one touch is all it takes to get the coffee you want. That's why WVC chose the name "Just Touch" when coming up with the name. The idea is visualized by a beam of light that is intended to guide the eye to the relevant information. For the presentation of the product at the POS and at trade fairs, WVC is continuing the "Just Touch" concept, relying on multimedia means: visitors are given the opportunity to learn about the benefits of the new product by means of an iPad app, and a video supports sales at the POS. Since the product will not be launched until fall 2011, the key visual and trailer can only be shown now.

Youth associations launch campaign: Joiz should be on the analog network

Under the slogan «MyMy Cablecom!», various youth organizations have been protesting against Cablecom since Sunday. They want the network operator to add the new youth television channel to the analog network.

At Mymymedia.chon Facebook and Twitter, the youth associations are calling on young people to get involved and providing information about planned activities. The first goal and the first action will be announced on Monday. In the short term, the initiators want to ensure that Cablecom switches the new youth channel to the analog network. It is not enough for Joiz to be broadcast via digital television. Many young people do not have access to it - for financial reasons, for example.

The long-term goal of the campaign is to give Swiss youth a more positive presence in the media. The new channel Joiz has enormous potential here, according to a press release issued on Sunday. It could become the "media home of Swiss youth". In addition, Joiz creates jobs for young people, stands for a positive future, for innovation and TV 2.0 - all the needs of young people.

They regret that Cablecom is still refusing to include Joiz in the analog network and is instead sticking with Bayern 3, "a station that is hardly watched in Switzerland and certainly cannot offer Swiss youth a media home", the associations continued. "Apparently Cablecom cares more about German pensioners than Swiss youth," Joiz CEO Alexander Mazzara, who welcomes the commitment of the youth associations, also told the Sonntagszeitung.

The initiators

The campaign is an initiative of Okaj Zürich - Cantonal Child and Youth Promotion - with the support of the umbrella organization for open youth work DOJ, the Swiss Association of Youth Associations SAJV, Infoklick.ch, Politnetz.ch, the Swiss umbrella organization of non-profit music clubs Petzi and other child and youth promotion organizations.

3+: Kaiser is interested in Tele Züri

The media house Ringier and the casino operator Escor have already expressed their interest in the regional station Tele Züri, which is up for sale. But Dominik Kaiser, head of the private station 3+, would also like to buy Tele Züri.

The broadcaster 3+ has expressed its interest in Tele Züri to Tamedia and will submit a purchase offer, as Dominik Kaiser told the NZZ am Sonntag. He justifies his interest by saying that synergies could be exploited with two stations. Tele Züri does not make a bad program, continued Kaiser: "We would be interested in expanding it ". The Zurich banker Thomas Matter, who wants to enter the National Council this fall for the SVP, has a stake in 3+.

For Ringier, the acquisition of Tele Züri is also an option. Even before the sale of the regional station was up for discussion, Ringier CEO Marc Walder announced that the company would own television station on the market. At the time, he mentioned not only Tele Züri but also 3+ as potential takeover candidates.

Tamedia without TV/radio?

Last but not least: messes - without the SVP

The SVP is known for using provocative tactics during election campaigns. But the fact that an SVP politician is trying to attract attention and win votes with the phrase «I’m not a right-wing pig» is, for once, not the People’s Party’s fault…

The APG is to blame - and the Lucerne Theater to some extent. The theater is using the phrase to advertise its current play "Biedermanns Umgezogen". Conveniently, the poster was put up right next to that of SVP cantonal council candidate Lisa Zanolla. "That sort of thing can happen," says the APG. The example proves that the effect of posters should not be underestimated, they told 20 Minuten. There is no question that the collision has not only damaged Zanolla's poster. The SVP member takes it in her stride: "After all, there was no malicious intent behind it." Are you sure? That smacks of conspiracy.
