Last but not least: The living poster

To promote the new movie *Contagion*, Warner Bros. Pictures has put up a living advertisement. And, of course, they've released a viral video about it—one that's admittedly a bit unappetizing.

The window of a vacant store in Toronto was suddenly teeming with bacteria, fungi, mold and other small unsavoury things. The advertisement with the ultimate Iiiiihhhhhh effect advertises the new movie Contagion, which is about the rapid spread of a deadly virus. Hopefully the shop window is sealed ... Are AOL and Yahoo merging?

Following the firing of Yahoo CEO Carol Bartz, speculation is running rampant in the U.S. about a possible merger between AOL and Yahoo.

According to media reports, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong is already conducting negotiations with private equity firms and investment companies that are involved with Yahoo. Armstrong had already signaled interest in a merger with Yahoo last year, but was rebuffed at the time. One possible option is said to be a takeover of AOL by Yahoo, in which case Armstrong would become CEO of the merged company.

Edipresse with lower profit and sales

Edipresse posted a profit of 7.1 million Swiss francs in the first half of 2011, compared with a profit of 20.1 million in the same period of the previous year. Revenue declined by 9.5 percent to 80.4 million Swiss francs.

According to Edipresse, the strong Swiss franc had a negative impact on the result. Calculated at constant exchange rates, sales increased by 1.5 percent. The Group benefited from growth in its sales in Eastern Europe and Asia. Following the sale of its Swiss operations to media group Tamedia, Edipresse posted a loss of 4.6 million francs on continuing operations. Last year, the loss had still amounted to 1.7 million Swiss francs.

Edipresse now still holds 49.9 percent of its Swiss business. This share is to be transferred to Tamedia in two tranches by 2013. Because only the dividend income of the Swiss subsidiary was included in the result due to the change in ownership, it was not comparable with the previous year, Edipresse said. Tamedia had presented its half-year figures at the end of August. Thanks to the first-time inclusion of the business acquired from Edipresse, sales jumped 55.1 percent to CHF 558.9 million.

Edipresse further announced that the delisting of the company from the SIX Swiss Exchange will take place on October 20. The Lamunière family, which currently controls 87.3 percent of the share capital and 93.4 percent of the votes in the entire media group, has launched a public tender offer to buy back the remaining shares. On August 19, Edipresse initiated the required delisting of both bearer and registered shares. The delisting from the SIX Swiss Exchange is scheduled for October 20.

Reformed regional church needs more money for controversial advertising campaign

With just under a week to go before the end of the Reformed Church’s «Church Lottery,» the prize pool of 30,000 francs has already been won. Now the church plans to spend more money on the controversial promotional campaign.

A further 50,000 visitors played on the website. So far, 600 prizes of 50 francs each have been distributed. An evaluation of the website shows that in addition to the game, the church's offers have also been clicked on over 150,000 times. However, the campaign was received differently.

Of the approximately 1,200 people who contacted the hotline, there was both criticism and enthusiasm for the campaign. The comments ranged from "the church is acting like a cheap Jacob" to "it's great that the church is doing something different". (SDA)
