Facebook and Ebay: Closer cooperation agreed

The online auction site eBay and Facebook plan to work more closely together in the future and develop a range of e-commerce applications that integrate with Facebook.

With the help of Facebook's "Open Graph" technology, Ebay customers will in future be able to read comments from friends about certain products or make recommendations themselves, representatives of both companies announced on Wednesday.

Katie Mitic, Head of Marketing at Facebook and member of Ebay's supervisory board, called on external developers to develop their own programs using Facebook technology. The focus is particularly on mobile applications. Facebook and Ebay are already working together, with Facebook already using Ebay's electronic payment system Pay Pal on its site. (SDA)

Shopping Center City West new partner of APG

Following the Gäupark shopping center in Egerkingen, the Zentrum Rosenberg in Winterthur, and the Säntispark in Abtwil, another major shopping center—the City West shopping center in Chur—has chosen APG as its partner this year.

With an area of 23,000 square meters and a construction volume of 132 million Swiss francs, the new shopping center is the largest privately financed construction in Chur to date, writes APG in a statement on Thursday. The out-of-home advertiser is equipping the center with attractive billboards and, with the new contract, is further expanding its offering in the shopping center sector.

"We are extremely pleased to have won the concession. City West in Chur has a very high standing in the region. With its comprehensive tenant mix, including the Coop Megastore, it fits perfectly into our strategy of being able to offer our customers an attractive POS offering," says Patrik Denzler, Regional Manager Acquisition East at APG.

Virtual Network launches Adwave

Virtual Network announces the launch of Adwave, a new organization in the field of online advertising in the Swiss market.

The new organization will be operational from January 1, 2012, and will aim in particular to exclusively market Romandie.com, Dailymotion.com, Allociné.com , Doctissimo.com and Elle.fr, according to a statement on Wednesday. Other publishers, with whom negotiations are currently underway, will strengthen the product portfolio by the end of the year.

"Our key objective will be to develop an attractive offering in finance, video and women. These are the three themes in which we see the future." Stefan Renninger, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Adwave, is quoted in the announcement. With this in mind, the current team at Romandie Online wanted to get involved in the new project. The opening of an office in Zurich and the hiring of additional staff are planned.

This announcement also follows the desire of Virtual Network and Edipresse to stop marketing their activities through Romandie Online at the end of the year.

Agency budgets continue to grow

Budgets have been growing steadily across nearly all types of agencies since mid-2010. Online marketing service providers are clearly standing out from the overall market. Graphic design and design agencies are lagging behind in the economic recovery.

The portal Benchpark.com once again surveyed the propensity to invest among 14,000 decision-makers in the second and third quarters of 2011. The trend of the BIX investment index calculated from this shows that more budget continues to be planned for online marketing. Around a quarter of customers are also planning to increase their investment in PR and traditional advertising. The event business has been experiencing growth since the summer, but the investment climate clouded over again in the fall.

index

For interpretation: The BIX ranges from -1 to 1. The maximum of 1 indicates that 100 percent of respondents are planning to increase their budgets in the medium term. The reverse is true for -1.

SFLB: Campaign for Tages-Anzeiger realized

The Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett agency has created print ads and two radio spots for the *Tages-Anzeiger* on the topic of elections.

On October 23, the new parliament will be elected. That's why the likenesses of politicians from the far right to the far left are already beaming at us from almost all Swiss billboards. Since it is impossible to form a decent opinion on the upcoming elections based on party logos and politicians' faces, the Tages-Anzeiger is helping out: since time immemorial, it has been providing Switzerland with well-founded research and background reports on the parties and their exponents, as the agency writes in a press release. Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett is providing the appropriate advertising for the elections with two print subjects and two radio spots. From now on in the press and on air.

Responsible at Tages-Anzeiger: Marcel Tappeiner (Publishing Director), Gabriela Wettstein (Head of Events and Media Partnerships), Stefan Lanz (Head of Marketing), Patrick Blajh (Brand Communications). Responsible at Spillmann/Felser/Leo Burnett: Reto Clement (AD), Simon Smit (text), Peter Brönnimann (CD), Suzana Kovacevic (artbuying), Sylvia Kohler, Nino Zuberbühler (consulting); Hastings Audio Network (scoring).

Last but not least: Steve Jobs as poster star

No entrepreneur has ever been accorded this honor before: The teen magazine *Bravo* has dedicated a poster to Steve Jobs.

This is the first time in its 55-year history that Bravo has made an entrepreneur a poster star. According to Bauer-Verlag, its products have a very significant influence on the lives of young people in Germany. And Bravo editor-in-chief Philipp Jessen also has a plausible reason for the "iRemember" poster: Jobs has long since become a pop star. "Young people love his products. They listen to music on their iPods, dream of the latest iPhone and save up for the iPad". Jobs may well have finally and officially ascended to the heaven of stars and starlets ...

SF info becomes multilingual

In the future, the German-language television channel SF info will also be able to broadcast programs from French- and Italian-speaking Switzerland. The Federal Council has granted the SRG permission to do so and has amended the license accordingly.

This is intended to further promote the exchange between the language regions in Switzerland, as Bakom writes in a press release on Wednesday. Until now, SRG was only allowed to show programs on SF info that had previously been broadcast on SF1 or SF2. This restriction will be relaxed as of November 1, 2011. In future, SF info will also be able to take over informative TV programs from Radio Télévision Suisse (RTS) and Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RSI). It is planned to subtitle these broadcasts for the German-speaking audience.

This relaxation corresponds to a provision of the Radio and Television Act (RTVA), which requires the SRG to promote cultural and social exchange between Switzerland's language regions. The Federal Council and Parliament have recently called on the SRG to strengthen this exchange. The Federal Council will report on the progress made by the end of 2012, as requested by Councillor of States Theo Maissen in a motion.

According to the press release, the Federal Council is of the opinion that the announced takeover of TV programs from the other language regions is a step in the right direction, but that further measures are necessary on the part of the SRG to promote mutual understanding.

Troxler office: Making a virtue out of necessity

Noise pollution in Lucerne’s Old Town has been an issue for some time. Recently, the City Council passed a controversial ordinance imposing additional regulations on street music.

Due to pressure from residents and businesses, street musicians have only been allowed to perform four times since July 1. But noise pollution is still an issue. Numerous construction works have been underway in the old town for a few weeks now. In the Kornmarktgasse / Kornhausplatz area, the entire stone paving is being renewed. The stores are difficult to access due to the construction barriers. The former Pinocchio on Hirschenplatz is also being renovated. Renovations are underway in Hertensteinstrasse, excavation work is being carried out on Sternplatz and the Rathaus Brauerei is also greeted by scaffolding. The Troxler office takes it with humor and makes a virtue out of necessity. "The emissions from the construction noise around our office are already considerable. We wanted to counter this with humor. This gave us the idea of the yellow construction boards."
