Last but not least: communicating can put your health at risk

The Museum of Communication is launching the exhibition «Warning: Communication Is Dangerous.» Part of the museum will be transformed into the «Communication Clinic.».

"Piles of advertising in the letterbox, hundreds of emails every day, cell phone terror on the train and bus, non-stop chirping on social networks, thousands and thousands of websites on the World Wide Web" - it's no wonder that we feel overwhelmed, exhausted, stressed and annoyed, writes the Museum of Communication in a press release. This should now come to an end - thanks to the Clinic for Communication. Visitors enter via a foyer and are greeted by the director, Sana van Belkom. The first step towards improving communication behavior is to take a careful medical history. Visitors are therefore asked to reflect on and document their communication behavior and use of media in a check-up. The result of the check-up is the so-called Personal Communication Index (PKI), which identifies the benefits, enjoyment and suffering of each clinic visitor. The visitors are then ready for the consultation. The aim here is to learn about insights and strategies for dealing with the flood of communication in a fun and goal-oriented way.

However, as we all know, the best tips are worthless if you don't have them to hand at the crucial moment. At the end of the clinic visit, a vending machine therefore provides a handy memento. The medicine "Comucaïne" summarizes the most important tips from the exhibition on the package insert. Director Sana von Belkom also likes to look after her clients beyond the visit to the exhibition: she maintains her own page on Facebook, where she reports on everyday life at the clinic and answers questions.

Bern gets definitive new online newspaper

Bern is getting an online newspaper. Behind the project is a group of journalists, politicians, and cultural figures who are calling for «greater diversity of opinion, more analysis, and journalistic foresight.».

At its general meeting on Tuesday, a supporting association decided to realize the project, as stated in a communiqué. The association commissioned former Bund journalist Manuel Gnos with the further preparatory work. The online newspaper, whose name has not yet been decided, is to be launched in May or June 2012. The sponsoring association first publicized the project with an appeal in September. The aim was to sign up at least 100 people by the end of October who would each make an initial contribution of CHF 500. As this was clearly achieved, the sponsoring association decided to press ahead with the work to realize the project.

The initiators see a lack of diversity, analysis and journalistic vision in local reporting from Bern, as they write on their website. Surprising stories and interesting approaches to topics - whether politics, culture or everyday life in the city - are missing. This is where the new newspaper wants to start. The future online newspaper will provide up-to-date and critical information about Bern's local politics and culture. It will provide commentary and background information and will be a platform for discussion. It aims to strengthen the diversity of opinion in the city of Bern and the differentiated exchange of views on local politics, culture and everyday life.

For the launch, 300 full-time positions are planned for five to six independent professional journalists. Freelancers and volunteers will also be employed. The budget is around half a million francs per year. Users will be able to have their say via the public council. (SDA)

Publicis: Slowmotion for the new Postfinance app

Publicis created the campaign for the new Postfinance app. Two video ads demonstrate how quickly you can pay with your cell phone, even on the go.

Everyday events seem extremely slow in comparison, so the message goes. To stage the idea, Publicis used the film trick of playing two different speeds, super slow motion and normal speed, simultaneously in one image.

The campaign includes online streaming video ads as well as mobile ads and has been in operation since October 31.

Responsible at Publicis: Peter Rettinghausen (CD), Tom Kees, Denis Schwarz, Mohammed Klotz (AD), Tiago Dias (programming), Bojana Taraba (consulting). Production: Two Dog, Jonas Meier. Media Planning: Goldbach Interactive, Katrin Sprenger.

Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch is the "best quality initiative in Swiss journalism"

The association Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch has been awarded the 6th Media Award 2011 by the association Qualität im Journalismus. This award recognizes a young initiative by journalists who are committed to promoting the principle of public access to information in Switzerland.

The award is presented every other year for the "best quality initiative in Swiss journalism". According to the press release, the nine-member jury was primarily inspired by the internet platform Oeffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch convince. Applications to federal agencies and cantonal administrations can be formulated there with just a few mouse clicks. The website is currently being translated into French. As soon as funding is secured, it will also be available in English.

The association Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch aims to promote a change in awareness among the media and the administration, as the press release explains further. In its statutes, it has set itself the goal of making the Publicity Act "an effective working tool for media professionals". The board consists of president Martin Stoll (Sonntagszeitung), vice-presidents Denis Masmejean (Le Temps) and Hansjürg Zumstein (Schweizer Fernsehen) as well as Vera Beutler ("Plädoyer - Magazin für Recht und Politik"), Catherine Boss (Sonntagszeitung), Thomas Knellwolf (Tages-Anzeiger and "Der Bund") and Titus Plattner (Le Matin Dimanche). The board works on a voluntary basis. As a non-profit, publisher-independent association, Öffentlichkeitsgesetz.ch has no commercial purpose. The development of the Internet platform was financed by the media company Tamedia and implemented by the editorial department of the Sonntagszeitung. The Conference of Editors-in-Chief and the Association of Federal House Journalists (VBJ) have taken over the patronage. In addition to Tamedia, it is financially supported by the Gottlieb and Hans Vogt Foundation, Konsumenteninfo and the Oertli Foundation. However, the association operates autonomously and independently. Only full-time journalists can become active members.

The award for the best general structural quality initiative went to the project for the Radio education and training in an intercultural context (Rawik).
