Edipresse Suisse becomes Tamedia Publications romandes

Effective April 4, 2012, Edipresse Suisse will operate under the new name «Tamedia Publications romandes.» The name change and the new visual identity coincide with the announcement of the Tamedia media group’s results for the 2011 fiscal year.

The name "Tamedia Publications romandes" underlines the central position of the media in French-speaking Switzerland within the Tamedia media group, according to a press release. It stands for journalistic and organizational independence as well as regional roots.

The media of Tamedia Publications romandes include the daily newspapers 24 heures, Tribune de Genève, Le Matin and its news portals, the Sunday newspaper Le Matin Dimanche and the business magazine Bilan. Serge Reymond will remain Managing Director of Tamedia Publications romandes.

Edipub, the sales organization of Edipresse Suisse, will now also be known to its customers as "Tamedia Publications romandes - Werbemarkt". This step will also be implemented at company law level at the end of June. Edipub will merge with Tamedia Publications romandes on this date.

Tamedia gives employees a share of 8 million francs in the result

Tamedia is sharing a total of 8 million Swiss francs of its 2011 profits with its employees. The distribution will take place through two separate profit-sharing programs for the Tamedia and Edipresse Suisse divisions.

The total amount of the profit-sharing scheme for the Tamedia division amounts to CHF 7.18 million, as Tamedia writes in a press release. Employees can decide whether they wish to receive the amount in cash or in the form of shares. Employees who receive the profit-sharing bonus in the form of shares will benefit from an increase of 20 percent. Tamedia's profit-sharing model has been in place for more than ten years.

In order to give all employees a share in the profit they have generated, Tamedia has decided to voluntarily pay Edipresse Suisse employees a profit share based on the previous Edipresse model for the last time. A total of CHF 0.75 million will be paid out under the Edipresse Suisse profit-sharing model. From the 2012 financial year, all employees will participate in Tamedia's profit-sharing model.

NZZ Media Group plans savings program

The NZZ Media Group has launched a cost-cutting program within its Zurich Media division. The reason for this is that business performance this year has fallen short of the projected earnings targets.

There have been significant losses in job and financial advertising in the current year. Details of the savings program will not be communicated, according to NZZ Media Group.

Bild: Criminal complaint against Sommaruga is "journalistic action"

The criminal complaint filed by the German newspaper *Bild* against Justice Minister Simonetta Sommaruga is a «journalistic initiative.» «We want to shine a spotlight on the important debate about tax fraud,» said deputy editor-in-chief Nikolaus Blome.

As a result, the newspaper and its managers expect a closer look at the issue of tax fraud, "which is to be eliminated by agreement", as Blome explained in an interview with the SDA news agency on Wednesday. It is also about Germany's credibility: "How much tax evasion can a state allow that demands a lot from the lower classes by law and severely punishes misconduct in the social sector?" Blome formulated the central question. Laws must also be observed and enforced at the upper end in order to remain credible. At the same time, Bild also wants to hold up a mirror to Switzerland with the criminal complaint. An arrest warrant against German tax investigators who were merely doing their job is "ludicrous". Those responsible at Bild are aware that, formally speaking, Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga is not the right person to contact. "We have taken her as a representative of the Swiss judiciary," said Blome.

The criminal complaint was filed by the reporter responsible for Switzerland, as in Germany only individuals can file a criminal complaint. Although Blome does not dare to predict the outcome of the criminal complaint - "I don't want to speculate here" - it will allow a legal assessment of the issue in Germany. And a follow-up story in the Bild newspaper. (SDA)

BZM: Pension funds to join Profond collective foundation

The pension funds of Basler Zeitung Medien are set to join the Profond Collective Foundation as of July 1. Board Chairman Filippo Leutenegger presented this proposal on Wednesday to the board members of the BZM pension funds and to the employees.

The company BZM is prepared to enable the connection to the Profond collective foundation with a considerable one-time contribution. In this way, the well-established rights of the insured and pension recipients can be safeguarded with this reorganization. Since such a step would also eliminate the high restructuring contributions currently being paid by employees, broad approval is expected. The implementation of this solution is subject to the approval of all parties concerned and the relevant bodies.

Due to underfunding, the Board of Trustees of the BZM pension funds decided in July 2011 to make restructuring contributions of 4.5 percent each from employees and employers.

Last but not least: Naked men on priest stick

The Catholic Church in Ireland is in crisis - new child abuse scandals have repeatedly come to public attention in recent months. Now an embarrassing porn scandal is rocking the church.

Imagine the following scene: An Irish priest wants to inform about First Communion at a parents' evening. 26 parents and one child are eagerly following the PowerPoint presentation and listening to the words of the priest. Suddenly, gay porn images appear on the screen. According to the BBC, 16 of them. They are on a USB stick that the priest has connected to the computer before the presentation. The priest, by now probably snow-white or bright red in the face, reflexively pulls the stick out of the computer and leaves the room without delay.

A silly childish prank or an embarrassing mishap on the part of the godfather? The latter stubbornly claims that he doesn't know how the material got onto the memory stick. And one is inclined to believe him. Whatever the case, the timing of this mishap couldn't have been worse - the Catholic Church in Ireland has probably sunk another meter into the muck.
