JvM/Limmat: "Water keeps you moving"

The Jung von Matt/Limmat agency has launched a health promotion campaign designed to encourage people to drink water.

The commitment to a healthy body weight is a central concern of Health Promotion Switzerland, the agency said in a press release. After all, one in five children in cities is already too heavy. The widespread consumption of sweet drinks is still partly responsible for this. As part of a broad-based program, Health Promotion Switzerland is launching a campaign to make children want to drink water.

Two different subjects show moving machines in full dynamic. The two figures are composed of sandpit toys and parts of a technology kit. In one motif, a bottle of water makes an inline skater run; in the other motif, a watering can with water keeps a jogger moving.

The campaign can now be seen on posters and advertisements around Slow Up events.

Army chief Blattmann apologizes to the Sonntagszeitung

Corps Commander André Blattmann, Chief of the Army, has apologized to the *Sonntagszeitung* for a false claim. On Monday, Blattmann had told the media that a quote from his army spokesperson had been misrepresented.

In its April 29 edition, the Sonntagszeitung newspaper wrote that the army had lost the data records of 27,000 decommissioned soldiers. The paper quoted the army spokesperson as saying exactly that.

The following day, Blattmann called a media conference. He accused the Sonntagszeitung of misrepresenting the quote from the army spokesman. In a letter to the editor-in-chief of the Sonntagszeitung, which is also available to the SDA news agency, Blattmann has now corrected his statement.

The Sonntagszeitung had reproduced the quote correctly. His statement had referred to a shortened quote on the front page of the newspaper. The changes requested by the head of the army had in fact not been included there.

Blattmann apologizes to the Sonntagszeitung for the mix-up and the resulting misunderstanding. (SDA)

Constantin Seibt blogs for Newsnet

Newsnet is launching a new media blog. Deadline, written by Constantin Seibt, is intended to be a blog for professionals—a «how-to» blog addressing the day-to-day questions of the journalism trade.

The requirements for the job have changed considerably, writes Newsnet in a press release on Wednesday. Newspapers used to sell something sure-fire: a habit. The public felt restless without coffee, a cigarette or a newspaper. This audience is increasingly a thing of the past. Today, media and journalists - whether printed or online - have to fight for attention like never before. The question is how to wage this battle without losing attitude. The answer: journalism needs to become more sophisticated in its craft. Routine and run-of-the-mill articles are not enough to keep readers coming back for more.

Deadline is to become a blog for professionals, as it says. A "how-to-do-it blog" on the daily questions of the trade: how to set punchlines, how to polish dialog, how to be deadly in a tear-jerker, how to praise without embarrassment, how to make complex facts amusing and how not to make columns look bland. Then there are the questions of attitude: How do you survive in a brutal economic environment? What strategies can a newspaper and a journalist use to become a brand? How do you attract attention without exaggerating? And finally, the question of how a newspaper or an online editorial team could position itself differently in today's market in order to win over an increasingly disloyal audience.

The author of Deadline is Constantin Seibt, a reporter at the Tages-Anzeiger since 2006. He was previously editor for politics and economics at the weekly newspaper Woz and wrote columns for the NZZ-Folio, Basler Zeitung, Annabelle and Weltwoche. In 2007, he was voted Journalist of the Year for his reporting on the Swissair trial.

The new Newsnet blog launches on May 2. And, according to the press release, "with what is guaranteed to be the longest post that will ever appear there": a 15-thesis manifesto on journalism in the 21st century. "Deadline" is available on all German-language Newsnet titles, i.e. on Tagesanzeiger.ch, Bazonline.ch, Bernerzeitung.ch and Derbund.ch.

Last but not least: Zombie profile

For anyone who wants to maintain their social network beyond death, we recommend the social media startup Dead Social. To do so, members link their account to their existing social media profiles.

They can then pre-produce messages that are sent out at freely selectable intervals after the death. Network friends can thus receive messages from the afterlife years after a person's death via Facebook, Twitter and co. to receive messages from life after death, as the Huffington Post reports. The aim of the new service is to continue the discussion about the continued existence of social media accounts. Whether profiles should be deleted after death or passed on to predetermined heirs is currently almost universally a matter of taste and not regulated by law.

Almost as macabre as > Last but not least: Let grandma rest in peacethe new zombie service. And that's the end of macabre things - for a few days anyway.
