Last but not least: sexism yes, sex education no thanks

The church-affiliated publisher Weltbild seems to have a somewhat unconventional view of ethics: It has removed the sex education book *Make Love* from its catalog, yet continues to sell the BDSM trilogy *Shades of Grey*.

Make Love" is a factual sex education book, whereas "Shades of Grey" is a highly controversial bestseller that has been described in many places as low-brow and sexist. The publisher even explicitly points out the following in its online store: "The subjugation of women described here contradicts the view of the world and humanity that guides us as booksellers. We regard the book as very problematic." However, the merciless subjugation of women does not stop Weltbild from offering the work. A passage about abortion, on the other hand, prompted the publisher to remove "Make Love" from its range. One is inclined to say: Weltbild's worldview is backwards.

Weltbild is owned by twelve German dioceses, the Association of German Dioceses and the Catholic Chaplaincy for Soldiers in Berlin. Two weeks ago, the owners decided to transfer their shares to a church foundation under public law. This averted a decision to sell the company, which had been made a good six months ago in the wake of public debates about erotic and esoteric media in the Weltbild range.

Sipa takes over French-language service from AP

The French news agency Sipa has acquired the French-language division of the Associated Press (AP). The acquisition was finalized on Thursday following several months of negotiations and will not result in any layoffs.

Erick Monjalous, Deputy Director General at Sipa, said this when asked by the news agency SDA. The jobs will also be retained in the AP newsroom in French-speaking Switzerland, which belongs to AP France. The agency employs six journalists in its offices in Bern and Lausanne.

The takeover gives Sipa an exclusive license to use AP's international news in French-speaking countries, Sipa wrote in a press release on Thursday. The two agencies have already been working together for some time. Sipa has been distributing the American agency's images in France since 2001.

Sipa wants to offer a complete range of texts, images and videos in French. In this respect, the acquisition of AP France is a decisive step, Sipa CEO Olivier Mégéan is quoted as saying in the press release. This new offering for media, their users and for companies should be available from the fall.

Sipa was taken over by the German news agency dapd in May 2011. For its part, dapd emerged from the takeover of the German-language service of the AP news agency by the German Despatch Service (DDP) in 2009.

SDA works together with DAPD in German-speaking Switzerland. With the takeover of AP France, DAPD becomes AP's most important partner on a global level. (SDA)

Source: Precise appearance for Lausanne trade fair

The design agency Source has developed the name Lausannetec and the brand design for the newly launched trade fair for the watch and jewelry supply industry.

With the name Lausannetec, the agency has combined the location of the trade fair with the technical aspect of the trade fair offer. The visual identity includes a logo, typographic concept, color scheme and three key visuals for the exhibitor areas "Watch & Jewellery", "Medical Technics" and "Electrotechnics". According to Source, only six weeks were available for the branding from the briefing to the first implementation. The brand design manual defined by the agency was used by various third-party advertising and public relations agencies to implement their communication measures. The first application was the Website realized.

The client is the MCH Group, which also organizes the Baselworld watch and jewelry fair. The branding project for Lausannetec is therefore a further collaboration in the nine-year partnership between the two companies.

Advertising month June: precision landing in the middle of the year

With the conclusion of the advertising month of June, the first half of 2012 in the advertising sector closed 1.3 percent higher than the same period last year. This amounts to a spot-on result.

The month of June was a minimal 0.1% down on the same month last year, as Media Focus reported in a press release on Friday. With an increase of 17.7 percent, the out-of-home advertising media category delivered an excellent half-year result.

Six out of 23 sectors recorded a year-on-year increase of more than 10% in the first half of 2012. In percentage terms, no sector grew as strongly as "IT & Office" (+27.3%; +8.6 million francs). In absolute terms, cross-sector advertising in the "Retail" sector came out on top (+10.4%; +18.5 million francs).

Mini, topless or all-terrain

The "new cars" product group increased its advertising volume in June by 10.2% compared to the previous year. If advertising is indeed setting trends, then "miniclass" (+109% compared to June 2011) and "mid-range" (+83.8%) are being driven in the summer. VW up! and the BMW 3 Series are popular models, at least in terms of their advertising presence. Convertibles (-12.2 percent), coupés & sports cars (-38.7 percent) and vans (-37.8 percent) should be avoided at all costs. The "SUV" (+35.1 percent) has been a good choice for the whole of 2012.

Summer vacation, but where?

In the advertising month of June, the advertising-savvy Swiss learned that they should shortlist the following domestic destinations: The vacation-hungry should visit the regions of Ticino (+140.5 percent compared to the same month last year), Zurich (+37.0 percent), Basel (+30.8 percent) and Ticino (+54.3 percent).
