The ADC Yearbook 2012 is here

The ADC Yearbook 2012 will be available in stores starting in September. The Art Directors Club of Germany’s «Creative Bible» features a compilation of all the winning entries from the 2012 ADC competition.

For the 48th time, the Art Directors Club honored the best creative works in the areas of Classic Media, Design, Editorial, Digital Media, Dialog Marketing/Promotion/Media, Spatial Staging, Craft and Holistic Communication. "Outstanding craftsmanship and emotional appeal" is how this year's jury chairman Harmut Esslinger, founder and long-time managing director of Frog Design, describes the award-winning creative works. With over 1,300 illustrations and many editorial contributions, the winning works of the ADC Competition 2012 are presented in the ADC Yearbook.

A novelty this year: The jury chairmen will present individual creative works in more detail in a "Judge's Choice". In addition, the ADC Honorary Member 2011, the ADC Client of the Year 2011 and the recipients of the ADC Lifetime Achievement Award 2011 are presented. Obituaries commemorate the late Vicco von Bülow, who had been an ADC Honorary Member since 1980, and ADC member and photographer Mats Cordt.

The creative works submitted to the ADC Competition 2012 had to pass the test in front of a jury of 338 ADC members. The jurors met for three days during the ADC Festival 2012 and selected the winners from around 6,600 works in 25 competition categories. One Grand Prix, 19 gold, 77 silver, 128 bronze ADC nails and 266 awards were presented.

Ringier: Good year for TF1 Suisse

In September 2011, Ringier and TF1 launched their Swiss advertising slot. Since then, more than 2,000 campaigns and commercials have been aired on TF1 Suisse.

This year, TF1 was able to launch the Swiss HD signal in addition to the new online offering on its own websites. Within a few weeks, this offering achieved a market share of between 0.8 percent and 1 percent. This increase in performance further strengthens TF1 Suisse's position as the most watched private station in French-speaking Switzerland, Ringier said in a statement.

A large proportion of the commercials are already delivered in HD quality. The "Secret Story 6" format also contributed to the positive result, the statement continues. The plan to bring in more "Swissness" and rely more on Swiss candidates should be implemented in shows like "Qui sera le meilleur ce soir?", "Danse avec les stars" and "Koh Lanta".

TF1 websites generated over 0.6 million video views from French-speaking Switzerland this summer.

Seed: Set the scene for Vetropack Glas

Seed realized the new corporate film and an animated film about the glass cycle for Vetropack.

Wunderman examines top sponsors of the Olympic Games

In a study, Wunderman examined the top sponsors of the London Olympics. Using the «Social Favourability Engine,» the study analyzed the impact on social media.

The key figures of 11 sponsors were compared: Acer, Atos, Dow Chemical, GE, McDonalds, Panasonic, Omega and Samsung. Coca-Cola, Procter & Gamble and Visa stood out in particular, according to Wunderman in a statement on Thursday. Although it is still too early to analyze the impact on brand sales, the effects on social media are already easy to measure.

While most sponsors saw a sharp increase in social media engagement during the Games, the increase in brand popularity was only marginal. "I had expected more positive activity around the brands as they were constantly visible through the sponsorship of the content. However, they have benefited less in the short term than we thought," said Jonathan Lyon, Head of Strategic Insights at Wunderman UK. The reason for this is certainly the already very high brand awareness of the sponsors, according to Wunderman in a press release on the study. Only Visa's brand popularity rose sharply by 4.2 percent, which is of course also due to Visa's cooperation with Olympic superstar Usain Bolt. The other brands only rose by an average of 0.6 percent.

To measure brand popularity, Wunderman focused on comments, posts, tweets, blog posts and forums on branded social media channels.

Social media engagement on Facebook and Twitter, on the other hand, has increased significantly for most brands. This is a very important point, Wundermann continues. This is because the viral effects enable a significant increase in reach. Coca-Cola has had the greatest success in the area of social media engagement. The number of fans increased by 4.54 percent, or 2 million users, during the games. In comparison, growth in the four weeks before the games was only 2.3 percent. Social media engagement even increased by 200% during this period.

Taking all the brand metrics from the study together, Coca-Cola, P&G and Visa were the most successful sponsors of the London Olympics. Over the next 6-12 months, Wunderman expects to see even more precise results on the impact of sponsorship on social media.

Tamedia examines merging print and online for regional titles

Tamedia is exploring the possibility of merging the print and online editorial teams at its regional publications. The merger is expected to result in cost savings.

Within the Group, experience with convergence has been good so far, said Group CEO Martin Kall at a telephone conference on Thursday. According to Kall, it is possible that all of Tamedia's regional titles will have convergent editorial teams in the future. These would then serve all channels of the respective brand from a single source, as the Tamedia boss explained. "However, there is no general master plan for this." Each situation will be considered individually.

At the Tages-Anzeiger, several project teams are currently working on merging the various editorial offices. Kall assumes that the most important decisions will have been made by the end of the year at the latest. However, the actual implementation is likely to take until the end of 2013.

One important aspect of merging the print and online editorial teams at the Tages-Anzeiger is the cost. "The merger will definitely lead to cost savings," said Kall. How high these will be, however, remains to be seen. (sda)
