Incomplete or scattered data leads to miscommunication and damages customer loyalty. Whether manual or automated - those who have their data under control communicate in a targeted manner. "What goes in, comes out. Bad data leads to bad decisions," warns Martin Grossrieder, Managing Director and co-owner of Meinnetz.ch, in an interview with Christoph Soltmannowski.

His tip: a clear "data recipe". With rules on storage, deletion and responsibilities. Automated processes and clear guidelines help to comply with legal requirements and minimize risks.

Data awareness starts in the mind

In addition to technology, Grossrieder is convinced that a rethink is needed above all. Data literacy should be anchored in all departments. He recommends interdisciplinary teams that work together on strategy, processes and training: "It's not just about rules, but about understanding the consequences."

Targeted use of AI

Grossrieder believes in personal AI assistants that take over routine tasks. However, this requires structured, up-to-date and reliable data. Companies should use AI where it creates real added value - for example in customer support or analysis.

The video podcast "AI and Society - Paths into the New World" is produced by the Swiss Text Academy, which also offers courses on artificial intelligence. Two episodes are published monthly, on Spotify, YouTube and other podcast platforms.

Microsoft reads an "increase in endless working hours" from these results. This is because 40 percent of employees check their emails before 6 am. Almost a third (29 percent) of active employees access their mailbox again at around 10 pm.

Other findings also show that more and more employees are turning away from the traditional office day (from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). Microsoft now sees a third peak in the late evening in addition to the usual morning and afternoon peaks. In addition, the number of meetings after 8 p.m. has risen by 16 percent year-on-year. Incidentally, most meetings (23 percent) take place on Tuesdays.

There has also been an increase in weekend work, writes Microsoft. According to its data, 20 percent of people working at the weekend check their emails before midday - both on Saturdays and Sundays. Microsoft draws particular attention to the 5 percent of employees who continue to work after 6 p.m. on Sundays and comments: "Sunday anxiety is real and measurable".

Distraction and procrastination

Another finding of the study: on average, employees are interrupted 275 times during the course of a working day by meetings, emails or chat notifications. This corresponds to one interruption every 2 minutes. Half of all meetings take place during the most productive hours of the day (9-11 am and 1-15 pm), leaving little room for focused work, writes Microsoft. In addition, 57 percent of all meetings are spontaneous calls without a calendar invitation. However, the company also notes an interesting fun fact about scheduled meetings: 10 minutes before the respective appointment, edits to PowerPoint presentation documents increase - by 122 percent.

Marc Holitscher, National Technology Officer at Microsoft Switzerland, sees the findings of the study as confirmation of what many employees have long felt: "The boundaries between work and private life are becoming increasingly blurred. The paradox created by endless working hours is particularly striking: although we have more communication tools at our disposal than ever before, 48 percent of employees feel that their work is chaotic and disjointed. The solution does not lie in even more effort, but in a fundamental rethink of how we work." Holitscher believes that artificial intelligence can help here by taking over routine tasks and allowing employees to focus on what actually creates added business value. (René Jaun/fsi)

A ChatGPT request is quickly formulated and sent. OpenAI, the company behind the AI all-rounder, operates its language models in large data centers - where they consume a lot of electricity. At least that's what the warning voices are saying, pointing out how much of a burden the AI boom is putting on the tech giants' carbon footprint. But what does it look like when you break down this consumption into individual interactions? In other words, how much power does a single request to ChatGPT require? OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently answered this question in a blog post: On average, Altman writes, processing a single AI prompt consumes 0.34 watt hours. This is roughly how much an oven consumes in one second or a highly efficient light bulb in a few minutes, the OpenAI CEO illustrates, adding: "It also consumes about 0.000085 gallons of water, or about one-fifteenth of a teaspoon."

Energy explosion still to come

EPFL researcher Marcel Salathé considers Altman's figure to be plausible, as he explains in a blog post. In his own analyses a few months ago, he arrived at an average power consumption of around 0.2 watt hours per request. The scientist notes that his calculation was based on pure text interactions with AI chatbots. Altman's higher figure, however, also includes prompts to generate images or videos.

The low values communicated by Salathé and Altman are "in stark contrast to many other estimates, which often assumed energy consumption to be at least an order of magnitude higher", writes the researcher.

Nevertheless, Salathé warns of the drastic increase in energy requirements in the future. He identifies AI agents, which are currently being presented and introduced by many companies, as the driving factor behind this. Salathé believes that "we may currently be underestimating our total energy requirements, and dramatically so". The researcher warns of "a coming explosion in our energy needs". Worrying about this is "entirely justifiable", says Salathé. In contrast, "the regular use of chatbots is really nothing to worry about in terms of energy consumption". (René Jaun/jor)

Dentsu Announces New Creative Director for Central Europe

During the Cannes Lions Festival, Dentsu confirmed the new leadership structure for its creative division in Central Europe. Effective immediately, Krzysztof Mocek—previously Creative Practice Lead and CEO of Creative CEE, as well as Chief Growth Officer for CEE—will assume overall leadership of the creative business in the merged markets of the former DACH and CEE regions. Mocek will also remain Chief Growth Officer for Poland.

The newly created role is part of the group-wide «Innovating to Impact» strategy, which focuses on AI-powered solutions, closer market integration, and greater creative collaboration. Going forward, the Central European creative division will work more closely with media and CXM teams across departments. Operational implementation will be led by Sławomir Stępniewski, CEO of Central Europe.

Beat Hürlimann met Dentsu's new Creative Practice Lead for Central Europe, Krzysztof Mocek, on the Croisette.

Insights from David Droga: On Creativity and Letting Go of Control

At the Lumière Theater on Thursday morning, David Droga, CEO of Accenture Song, spoke about creative responsibility in a changing industry. Creativity should not be comfortable, Droga said: It must be bold, surprising, and, at its best, «even dangerous.».

He urged the audience to think backwards—that is, to start with the desired effect rather than the briefing. Only then can the necessary creative freedom emerge. Polarization isn’t a flaw, but rather an indicator of relevance, and it’s allowed to happen: «We’ve often been both the best and the worst campaign at the same time. I like that. It shows that it made an impact.»

Droga also sees AI as an opportunity for the creative industry—«if not us, then who?» What drives him? A simple principle he learned from his mother: «Care. Look out for others. You don’t have to have a college degree to care about people.»

What are the Junior Lions up to these days?

We haven't heard much from this year's Young Lions competitors yet. But then again, they're the ones who have their hands full during Cannes Week and have to put together a pitch in just 24 hours.

On Wednesday evening, we received a message from two young participants: Jenna Davis and Alex Gubler had just finished their pitch for the Print category a few hours earlier: «After a few intense and sleepless 24 hours, we did it! We’ve submitted our idea, and we’re happy and tired. We’re looking forward to seeing what the other teams have come up with!»

Whether Switzerland will win a Cannes Lion after all this year depends on the young talent. In any case, we're keeping our fingers crossed for everyone at tomorrow's awards show!

Wednesday, June 18

Update, 9:30 pm:

In Switzerland, there was no lion's roar this year - it wasn't enough for precious metal. There was no Swiss work on the final shortlist in the Sustainable Development Goals category, and Sir Mary also missed out with her work Steal Marina's artwork ultimately came away empty-handed. Nevertheless, the campaign was one of the 141 nominees in the PR category out of a total of 1537 cases submitted. All in all, however, it was still a sobering Cannes year from a local perspective, especially as more Swiss work was submitted this year.

Critical insight from Philipp Skrabal

Observing the industry digitally has long been routine for him. But attending the festival in person, says Philipp Skrabal, "opens up the sensors in a way that no case film can". Between networking, screenings and discussions, Skrabal reflects critically on the festival in the speed talk - but by no means resignedly. Find out more here.

Insights from Paul-Kemp Robertson, Chief Content Officer Lions

What remains when Cannes falls silent? Perhaps a red sofa that symbolizes what machines cannot (yet) do: recognize the moment. Paul Kemp-Robertson, Chief Content Officer of the Lions, spoke to Anna Kohler and Beat Hürlimann from m&k in a speed interview about the festival's new self-image, the role of AI and the "How to Win in 2030" format. This way to the article.

Update, 12:00 pm:

Half time! Before we find out whether Sir Mary has been awarded a Lion, the traditional Swiss BBQ by Weischer.Cinema takes place at lunchtime. As every year, Switzerland's creative minds, advertising clients and young creatives came together at O'Key Beach. Weischer.Cinema CEO Christof Kaufmann gave a short but sweet speech. Over burgers, rosé and glorious weather, we chatted, laughed and exchanged ideas.

Tuesday, June 17

Update, 9:30 pm:

The lions in the "Film Craft" category have been distributed, and unfortunately none of them were for On. Tomorrow will show whether Switzerland will win an award after all: Sir Mary can hope to win in the "PR" category!

The IAA Swiss Leaders Dinner also took place for the first time on Tuesday evening. There were a few raindrops at the start, but afterwards the weather showed its best side, as did the hosts and guests. The Cannes Lionsm&k-team captured a few moments at O'key Beach and asked host and IAA President Matthias Kiess how the idea for the dinner came about and what goal he and the association are pursuing with it.

Update, 5 p.m.: The "Advertiser of the Year" 2025 is here!

On Tuesday afternoon, the recently crowned "Advertiser of the Year" 2025 will also be at the Croisette. Before we meet him on the hip terrace next to the Palais, he listens to the session "Defying Gravity: Reimagining Brand Narratives" moderated by VML CEO Jon Cook with VML CCO Debbi Vandeven, Electric Company Director Jon M Chu and actor, comedian and author Bowen Yang in the Debussy Theatre. The topic was the continuous development of brand stories.

Skrabal then photographs two award-winning works in the basement of the Palais to visualize the theme. "Impressive examples that would not be possible without continuity in the brand narrative," the Farner CCO is convinced. The "Phone Break" campaign for KitKat, for example, with which VML Prague won the Grand Prix in the "Outdoor" category - and thus the first ever Grand Prix for the Czech Republic. The campaign recreates a familiar image from everyday life - people on their cell phones. However, the phones were replaced with KitKats, which also pays tribute to the iconic phrase "Have a break, have a KitKat".

The "Phone Break" campaign for KitKat by VML Prague won one of the two Grand Prix in the "Outdoor" category. (Image: Philipp Skrabal)

Skrabal cites this year's outdoor activation from Heinz as another example. The self-confident continuation of the "It Has to Be" campaign completely dispenses with the logo and brand name on the posters and instead shows classic Heinz products with their most popular counterparts - such as toast with baked beans or chips with ketchup. It remains a recognizable message, for which Wieden and Kenneedy London was awarded a Gold Lion in the "Outdoor" category.

When asked about other first impressions after twelve years of "festival abstinence", the Farner CCO says: "You can't see the sand at the Plage because of all the sponsors... except at the Plage Publique - but there's no rosé there!"

At Plage Publique (right) you can still see some of the sand, in contrast to the stretch of beach at YouTube (left) or RTL Beach (center). (Pictures: Philipp Skrabal)

The reigning "Advertiser of the Year" then went to the Weischer Executive Dinner at Le Caveau 30. "I am happy and grateful that Weischer.Cinema let me be part of this experience," says Skrabal. He traveled to the festival at the invitation of Weischer.Cinema Switzerland. Together with Christof Kaufmann, CEO of Weischer.Cinema Switzerland, and Eveline Kneubühl, Director of Operations and member of the Executive Board, he enjoyed the dinner organized by the parent company in Germany.

Insights from Moritz Bartsch, Head of Creative Ops TikTok

On the terrace of the Carlton Hotel, TikTok demonstrated its own transformation from a viral entertainment platform to a strategic advertising partner. At the heart of its development are AI-supported tools, strong creator collaborations and a clear commitment to marketing as a business.

In the subsequent video interview with m&k Head of Creative Ops Moritz Bartsch takes an in-depth look at the tools that are intended to contribute to the democratization of high-quality creative. Find out more here.

Insights from Pedro Pina, Vice President YouTube

At the YouTube Breakfast at Cannes Lions, Vice President Pedro Pina spoke to m&k about the role of creator content in brand communication, the new "Open Call" program and the vision for the next 20 years. Click here for the article with video interview.

Update, 9am:

Day two of the 72nd International Festival of Creativity. In the early morning, the Croisette still belongs to the locals. m&kEditor-in-chief Anna Kohler makes her way along the beach to the Palais to take a look at the new shortlists. Unfortunately, there is no other Swiss work on today's list. Next stop: YouTube and TikTok!

Monday, June 16

Update, 10pm:

The first day of the festival is (almost) over. 130 guests from 27 countries came together at RTL Beach for the United Nations Dinner of the International Advertising Association IAA to eat, network and celebrate creativity together.

Insights from Dentsu Lab EMEA

Head of Strategy Ashley Knight and Florian Root, Business Director EMEA, give an insight into the m&k-The Dentsu Lab, the innovation incubator in the Dentsu network, provides insights into the mindset and working methods of Dentsu Lab. Their goal: to create solutions that combine human needs with business values.

The conversation will discuss creative research and development between product design and brand strategy as well as the gap between R&D and marketing. Also discussed will be why true innovation needs more than trend reaction and how hybrid teams and rapid prototypes lead to more relevant results.

Insights from Jason Oke, Global Client President Dentsu

How do you combine artificial intelligence with human intuition - and what does that mean for brands like Adobe? Jason Oke, Global Client President at Dentsu, talks about the power of real relationships, creative opportunities in change and the tension between technology and talent in a speed interview at Dentsu Beach.

The discussion focused on the importance of creative excellence today, the relevance of personal contacts in an increasingly digital working world, the changes in the industry and the skills that will be important in the future. For m&k-editor Beat Hürlimann, it was an inspiring exchange about marketing, the courage to change and the future of the creative industries.

Insights from Vicki Maguire, CCO Havas London

Creatives in action: Havas London CCO Vicki Maguire discussed in the forum with Maisie McCabe from Haymarket Media Group, Xanthe Wells from Pinterest and Manie Fadel from Grey Brazil. In the subsequent speed interview with m&k she again addressed the issue of remuneration for creative services, which she had raised in the panel discussion.

After a one-year transition phase with Peter Döbeli as interim Managing Director, Thomas Brügger will take over the management of Top-Medien in June 2025. He brings 13 years of experience from the Migros media world, including as publishing director.

Under Brügger's leadership, the Winterthur-based media provider intends to further develop all channels, including Tele Top and the "Topnow" app in particular. Radio Top already underwent a comprehensive relaunch in April. The digital presence and social media are also to be more closely integrated and expanded in future.

Alongside the repositioning of content, the management is also investing in staff training and development. The aim is to increase the quality of the editorial content and to strengthen audience loyalty across all channels. Brügger emphasizes: "We want to reach more people with excellent, entertaining and regionally anchored content and be closer to the people - across all channels. This is particularly crucial in a challenging advertising market." He sees the lean structure and decision-making channels at Top Media as clear advantages. Chairman of the Board of Directors Döbeli, who will continue to provide strategic support to the company, points to the progress made in the organization and the new management team as the foundation for further growth.

Christian Kies: «Zurück zur grossen Liebe» https://www.markt-kom.com/en/mk-format/christian-kies-zurueck-zur-grossen-liebe/ Fri, June 20, 2025 06:26:57 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=236381

Christian Kies is back - back at Jung von Matt, back in Zurich, back with what he calls his "old great love". And although he's been here before, his impressions of the city, the people and the agency group? "Insane. I've been blown away." Kies is now bringing his global experience back to the Swiss creative landscape - with a clear goal: "I want to help develop the Swiss scene." A key lever here: international collaboration within the Jung von Matt Group.

Cross-location projects bring new mandates to Switzerland - such as Google or Mini. "These are brands that have rarely been seen here before," says Kies. The reverse works just as well: Swiss companies gain access to international creative power. For Kies, this is more than just a networking game - it is an attempt to generate appeal across national borders.

He has also observed changes in content. "It has become lighter. Humor is back." Kies finds the design project for Penny particularly inspiring, which he describes as "craftsmanship in its purest form". "Something like that touches me."

AI as an opportunity, not a spectre

Of course, Kies is also concerned about artificial intelligence. For him, this is no reason to panic, but rather an invitation to further development. "AI is a creative tool. Period. Anyone who only talks about it instead of using it is missing out on the opportunity." Jung von Matt is already using AI tools in production. "We were in Las Vegas - without being there. You can replace locations, but not the random emotions on set. That's what makes it so appealing."

The fact that human intuition cannot be programmed makes all the difference for him. As does the quality. Nevertheless, the industry must actively open up to AI. Less discussion, more practical application, advises Kies.

"Swiss brands, be bolder!"

Any agency that still dreams of piloting yachts today should first rethink its own product, says Kies. "The flood of content is huge. If you want to stand out, you have to offer more than just pretty pictures." It's about creating content that is relevant and remarkable - and this is only possible with courageous customers. "So here's my wish: Swiss brands, be bolder!"

But courage alone is not enough. Kies also emphasizes the role of the briefing. It is the backbone of every idea - "Shit in, shit out" is not meant cynically, but as a call for collaboration. "A good briefing is no coincidence. It is the result of joint work with the customer."

The digital consultancy Elaboratum, founded in 2010, will in future be managed under the umbrella of the Eidra Group, a consultancy network with Swedish roots and over 1,100 employees in Europe and the USA. Elaboratum is taking this step in response to strategic considerations regarding the further development of customer centricity, digital excellence and technological innovation, as detailed in a press release. The merger is the result of a two-year strategy process in which, according to Elaboratum, Eidra's experience with AI-driven business models and a complementary strategic focus were the decisive factors.

The operational structure will be retained and Elaboratum will take on a central role within the group in expanding the DACH market. The consultancy will continue to focus on digital value creation - from strategy and technology to cultural anchoring. The aim is to pool the resources and expertise of both organizations and accelerate the implementation of digital transformation.

Prof. Dr. Klaus Gutknecht, founder and partner at Elaboratum, emphasizes: "With Eidra, we have found the ideal platform to scale our consulting and services internationally." The integration into the Eidra Group should open up new perspectives for customer relationships and project development in Switzerland, Germany and Austria.

Ringier intends to accelerate the Group-wide digital transformation with the new management appointments. Festland und Sanitas Troesch entwickeln den «KI Mood Creator» https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/festland-und-sanitas-troesch-entwickeln-den-ki-mood-creator/ Thu, June 19, 2025, 12:26:25 PM +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=236363

The "AI Mood Creator" is based on an AI model that has been trained with images of current bathroom collections. Users select the room size, fittings and design preferences, after which a corresponding mood image is created. The visualizations show fictitious rooms that cannot be implemented 1:1, but serve as a starting point for personal consultation: "The magical moment still takes place in our exhibitions, not in the AI. Because only in the exhibition can everything be experienced haptically and compared directly," explains Marco Serratore. For the Head of Marketing & Communication at Sanitas Troesch, the tool is "ideal for getting an initial idea".

The project was implemented by Festland, which is also responsible for the brand imagery. Although the "AI Mood Creator" is still an experiment, Sanitas Troesch is more than satisfied: Over a thousand images were generated within a short space of time.

Valencia zelebriert die Kaffee-Vielfalt bei Coop Pronto https://www.markt-kom.com/en/kreativity/kampagnen/valencia-bewirbt-das-ausgebaute-coffee-to-go-angebot-von-coop-pronto/ Thu, June 19, 2025 11:42:48 +0000 https://www.markt-kom.com/?p=236356

Coffee-to-go has long been an integral part of the morning routine of today's generation. However, the demands for the perfect coffee are as diverse as the people themselves. In order to attract customers to the stores, more creativity is needed in the range, which goes beyond double espressos and cappuccinos: today, hazelnut and vanilla flavors, a vegan milk option and caramel toppings are also needed.

Coop Pronto has therefore expanded its coffee range and positioned itself as a competent provider of contemporary coffee-to-go offerings. Valencia has dynamically visualized Coop Pronto's expanded coffee range and staged it with an appealing visual world for the concise campaign appearance. At the same time, Coop Pronto's claim to variety and individuality is conveyed.

Digital measures such as DOOH and ad screens were implemented as part of the POS campaign for Coop Pronto stores with and without petrol stations.
