Martin Kall new member of the Board of Directors at Schweizer Bauer

Martin Kall, the former CEO of Tamedia, has joined the board of directors of the agricultural newspaper *Schweizer Bauer*. He stepped down as CEO of Tamedia in early 2013.

Martin Kall has been Chairman of the Management Board of Tamedia since April 2002. He is now taking a seat as a delegate in Verlags AG Schweizer Bauer and Fachmedien Agrar, as information on the Schweizer Bauer homepage confirms a report by Klein Report on Friday. The two companies publish the twice-weekly Schweizer Bauer.

In future, the two committees will be made up of Simon Bichsel, Chairman of OGG, as Chairman of the Board of Directors, Hans-Martin Kaiser, Managing Director of OGG, and Martin Kall as Delegate, according to Schweizer Bauer. OGG acquired the company in full at the end of 2012 (Werbewoche.ch reported). However, according to Kleinreport.ch, OGG President Simon Bichsel did not want to disclose whether Kall also has a financial stake in "Schweizer Bauern". "Further figures about our company are confidential," Bichsel told the media service. "There are no plans for any third-party involvement." For further information, he referred to a press release, which, however, only reached Schweizer Bauer and led to an article, as Kleinreport.ch further writes.

Wall Street Journal also bemoans Chinese hacker attacks

Chinese hackers appear to be targeting U.S. media outlets: Shortly after the New York Times reported on a months-long attack on its computer systems, the Wall Street Journal also came forward and made similar allegations.

The Chinese hackers apparently wanted to monitor the newspaper's reporting on China, the business daily wrote on Thursday. Publishing spokeswoman Paula Keve explained that the intrusion into the newspaper's computer systems was an "existing problem". The publisher is working with the authorities and external security companies to protect readers, employees and sources. The computer network has been upgraded in terms of security.

According to initial findings, the intruders were not after customer data, said Keve. The newspaper, which belongs to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., sees the attacks from China as a widespread phenomenon. In addition to the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times (Werbewoche.ch reported), other US media are also affected. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been investigating the matter for more than a year, according to people familiar with the matter. The FBI is even considering classifying the case as a threat to national security.

Critical reports

According to the New York Times, the passwords of all employees were stolen. The attackers then gained access to the computers of 53 Times employees. At the time of the attack in the fall, the renowned newspaper was working on a report about the assets of Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao's family. The attackers were apparently only interested in information in this context, the paper wrote. Customer data had not been stolen. The computer network is now secure again.

The financial news agency Bloomberg also reported a hacker attack from China last year - while working on a report on the assets of the family of current party leader Xi Jinping. According to Bloomberg, however, they were unable to get into the computer system. Google and other US companies have also repeatedly complained of being attacked from China via the internet. Official bodies in China have always vehemently denied the allegations. (SDA)

Mediapulse TV panel: Problems in data preparation resolved

On January 31, 2013, the Mediapulse Board of Directors decided that the data from the Mediapulse TV panel would be released during the week of February 18.

The January data are available, their final check is in progress. The release will take place in mid-February. Mediapulse wrote this in a statement on Friday.

Since January 2013, Swiss TV ratings have been recorded using a modern measurement system from the internationally active company Kantar Media, which takes into account the new digital reception options and the ongoing individualization of TV offerings. Due to irregularities in data processing and allocation, there has been a delay in the release in recent weeks (Werbewoche.ch reported). The causes were identified as part of a comprehensive review of all data preparation processes and have since been eliminated, according to the statement. The data was then recalculated. Initial results from January 2013 are available to Mediapulse.

Once the data has been completed, Mediapulse's specialists will now carry out a comprehensive final check. At the same time, the interfaces to the various software tools for the advertising market are being tested.

To the point: Congratulations

The crowning of the Advertiser of the Year is one of the social highlights on the agenda of the Swiss agency scene. Back in 1977, the creative community crowned its "king" for the first time. This year, the title will be awarded for the 36th time.

The industry leader of the year is chosen by Werbewoche subscribers. A final round of nominees is put forward by a kind of "academy" of all previous advertisers of the year. The list of "established" candidates is supplemented by the editorial team with new faces that have particularly caught their eye during the course of the year. This year, two Internet specialists, a managing director of an agency and a representative of an even younger agency also made it to the final round as part of the joint selection process.

I am particularly pleased that the Advertiser of the Year is also perceived by the public and the media as an "ambassador for the industry. The media acceptance of our choice, as well as the numerous requests for a specialist commentary on daily advertising topics, show that the Advertiser of the Year we present is perceived as an opinion leader for Swiss advertising.

Peter Brönnimann, Executive Creative Director and co-founder of Spillmann Felser Leo Burnett, Zurich, was able to accept the trophy named Egon at the ABC cinema. The little man with an oversized mouth as a megaphone was designed by Swiss artist Max Grüter. Peter Brönnimann received 41 percent of the votes. Geri Aebi came in second with 24 percent of all votes. Peter A. van der Touw, CEO of Notch Interactive, and Gabriel Peisker, founder and CD of Erdmannpeisker, came in third with 11 percent of the votes each. On the same evening, which was incidentally hosted by Christa Rigozzi, the creators of the "TV Spot of the Year" also received an award.

20 films were put forward for voting by Werbewoche via Facebook. Like last year, a film from the campaign for upc cablecom was chosen as the winner. It was created by the Zurich agency Vizner Borel. Director Reto Salimbeni and his Zurich-based Manifesto Films were responsible for the spots featuring Hollywood Swiss Carlos Leal. In second place was a spot for Charles Vögele from the creation of the new Publicis subsidiary Red Lion. Third place went to Lidl Switzerland with a campaign by Unikat. Like the winner, these two films were also realized by Manifesto Films.
