The publication will be produced in close cooperation with partners from the health and sports sectors and the Blick Group's Publishing Services will be responsible for the content. Michael Rottmann, Partner and Head of Business Consulting at Namics: "In addition to the German Design Award, the Red Dot and the Best of Corporate Publishing Award, this is the fourth award for the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund annual report. Once again, an independent jury honors the high quality of the work, which is evident in the design, conception, content and technical implementation. Complete, digital, integrated

The Migros Annual Report 2014 shows the most important events and results of Migros' 2014 financial year. It is more sustainable, more functional, more modern and more integrated than the previous reports and is particularly convincing due to its high user-friendliness, according to a statement on Friday.

Thanks to its design, it appeals to all target groups at eye level: Financial experts through functional innovations, cooperative members and consumers through the emotional access, employees through the exciting information preparation and non-governmental organizations through an integrated structure. Due to the positive user response and the numerous awards, Namics was also responsible for the 2015 annual report.

Energy and votes characterize May

Advertising pressure totaling 452 million gross francs was measured in May. Compared to the previous year, this represents a total increase of 6.4%.

mai

May is full of energy. The energy sector recorded an increase of almost 55% compared to the previous year. The referendum campaigns also generated a lot of advertising pressure in May 2016. The tobacco products sector, which recorded a drop of 46.8% compared to the same month last year, has been in a downward spiral since February. This is shown by the Advertising Market Trend Report May 2016 from Media Focus.

May full of energy

The energy sector, which has steadily increased its gross advertising pressure since the beginning of the year, recorded a year-on-year increase of 54.8% in May. This puts it in first place among the sectors that generated the most advertising pressure in May compared to the previous year. The cleaning sector can count itself among the top 3. It increased its gross advertising pressure by almost 21% compared to the same month last year. Smaller increases were observed in the food (+13.6%), fashion & sport (+13.4%) and leisure, gastronomy, tourism (+11.9%) sectors. There was no change in gross value added in the transportation industry compared to the same month last year.

Rather smoke-free

The downward trend in the tobacco products sector has persisted since February of the new year and reached its peak in May. The sector recorded a drop of 46.8% compared to the same month last year. This puts the tobacco products sector in first place among the sectors with the biggest slumps. Can this slump be attributed to the current debate about a ban on tobacco advertising? In second place by a wide margin is the services sector, which recorded a decline of 12.9% compared to the previous year. The telecommunications sector lost 12.2% of its gross advertising pressure compared to the same month last year.

Federal referendum on June 5, 2016

The referendum on June 5, 2016 led to an increase in gross advertising pressure in the Initiatives & Campaigns sector, as is usually the case in the months leading up to votes.

1_Abstimmung_Gesamt_DE

Milk cow initiative

The strongest advertising pressure was recorded for the months of March to May with 4.7 million gross francs for the "For fair transport funding" initiative. 54% of the gross advertising pressure was attributed to the Yes campaign and 46% to the No campaign. The "Milchkuh" initiative was downright shot down with 70.8% of votes against.

2_Abstimmung_Milchkuh_Initiative_DE

Pro public service

In second place is the Pro Service Public Initiative with a total gross advertising impact of 1.2 million Swiss francs in the period from March to May 2016. 99% of the gross advertising impact was on the No side. Only 1 percent can be attributed to the Yes campaign. The final result was also a clear "no" with 67.6% of the votes.

3_Abstimmung_Pro_Service_Public_DE

Unconditional basic income

The unconditional basic income achieved the clearest result of all the proposals put to the vote on June 5, 2016, with more than three quarters of all voters casting a "no" vote. Advertising pressure in the run-up to the vote totaled just 52,000 gross francs from March to May. The amount was divided into 38% for the Yes campaign and 62% for the No campaign.

To the point: profile or neurosis?

The editorial by Werbewoche editor-in-chief Anne-Friederike Heinrich from the current issue of Werbewoche 11/2016 from June 17, 2016.

editorialteaser_0_1_2_0_0

Advertising in independent publications and the (supposed) resulting demands on (independent) reporting - this has become an ongoing issue in Switzerland. As a reminder: If the Baz doesn't write nicely about the SVP and UBS, Blocher and Bank no longer place ads, even though these are vital for the paper's survival. And publisher and editor-in-chief Markus Somm is even understanding about it.

Now the issue is reaching the next stage of its evolution. Once again, the U.S. shows the direction in which the debate is heading. Since the topic is no longer negotiated only by editors-in-chief and publishing directors, but has reached the readers, it has the potential for more: First, the wrestling between media and advertising companies or parties has a high entertainment value, at least for those who are not financially involved in the conflict. And secondly, the media can now create a new profile for themselves through their dealings with advertisers: Do they accept any form of advertising, as long as it brings in money? Do they take a stand against anything that is ugly, foul-mouthed, sexist, tendentious, too left-wing or too right-wing? (Is it even possible to advertise at all then?) Or do they hold out their hand for all advertising formats, but try to hide the advertising measures from their readers as well as possible, key words being content marketing and native advertising? Increasingly, a company's profile no longer arises only from what it does, but especially from what it doesn't do.

A bit of smear theater from America, with the currently universally popular and completely unelectable presidential candidate Donald Trump as the leading actor: The American Internet portal Buzzfeed has just terminated a lucrative advertising contract with Trump's Republican Party in protest against the "politics" of Donald Trump. "Buzzfeed cannot publish ads for Trump's presidential candidacy because Trump is violating the civil liberties of our employees in the U.S. and around the world," said company CEO Jonah Peretti. As an example, Peretti cited Trump's proposed ban on Muslims entering the U.S., which would make it impossible for Buzzfeed employees to do their jobs. "Buzzfeed doesn't like to give up advertising revenue, which we depend on," Peretti stressed. But there are limits, he said: "We don't advertise cigarettes because they harm our well-being, and for the same reason we don't advertise Trump."

What a statement! And what an advertisement for Buzzfeed. The sympathy flash triggered by the termination was surely thought of by Peretti in his anti-reps campaign. Why else would he use Twitter to spread the news that he had canceled the advertising deal? I wouldn't be surprised if Buzzfeed were now inundated with a flood of ads and banners from all the companies and service providers who are for Hillary Clinton - or at least against Donald Trump.

This replacement advertising should casually fill the hole that the lost Republican advertising budget has torn into Buzzfeed's coffers. Although the portal did not want to give any details about its revenue losses due to the cancellation, the competitor website Politico estimated them at 1.3 million dollars (about 1.2 million Swiss francs). And even if new advertisers fail to materialize: Judging by the great media response and the many new readers Buzzfeed has gained through its Reps offensive, Peretti's clear course has already paid off. This is another way to campaign - and attract readers - at least in the US.

How many Swiss hearts would have flown to the Baz if Markus Somm had clearly opposed the SVP's course? Alone, we are not in the USA, but in Switzerland. And perhaps we would not have attested to Somm's clear line and backbone if he had given the SVP a thumbs-down, but to inadmissible partisanship for a media maker. On top of that, Somm is regarded as Christoph Blocher's mouthpiece; he has written a biography about the SVP chieftain and would probably have had a hard time authentically selling the headwinds arising in Basel. On the other hand, the attempt to show a line might have been worthwhile. After all, with Somm at the helm, the Basler Zeitung experienced the biggest drop in readership in its history. And Somm has already made many a change in his life, why not this one?

Well, further on in the American smear theater: The Republicans are said to have reacted calmly to Buzzfeed's decision, as reported by Handelsblatt. A party spokesman in Washington had said that advertising space had been reserved on Buzzfeed, but that there had been no plans to actually place ads anyway.

That would also be a strategy for the Baz, Mr. Somm: Why don't you just say, when UBS and SVP cut their budgets, "we wouldn't have printed your ads anyway! Bätsch!" That would even be good for reader advertising.

Parliament Stands by Indirect Press Subsidies

Parliament instructs the Federal Council to maintain indirect press subsidies in the amount of 30 million francs, even during times of financial difficulty.

pressefoerderung

On Thursday, the National Council referred a motion to that effect to the government by a vote of 112 to 60, with 9 abstentions. Parliament is thus calling on the Federal Council to exempt indirect press subsidies from future austerity measures. Should it wish to discontinue this support, «it should develop a credible alternative,» the motion states. In particular, it should ensure that local and regional newspapers can count on the 30 million francs in subsidies that the federal government pays for early delivery. The motion’s sponsor, Christine Bulliard (CVP/FR), is concerned about press diversity in light of the crisis in the industry. In a federalist and multilingual country like Switzerland, she argues, this diversity is a crucial prerequisite for the free formation of opinion.

Through indirect press subsidies, the federal government provides 30 million Swiss francs in subsidies to support the distribution of local and regional newspapers. An additional 20 million Swiss francs is allocated to subsidize the discounted delivery of membership-based and foundation-sponsored publications. The motion dates back to the time when the Federal Council and Parliament were debating the Consolidation and Task Review Package (KAP). In its original form, it aimed to protect indirect press subsidies as part of the 2014 KAP. However, indirect press subsidies survived the budget cuts against the Federal Council’s wishes and were also spared in the current stabilization program.

Federal Council Considers Motion Fulfilled

The Council of States has amended the motion with a view to the future, so that indirect press subsidies are secured in the long term. By referring the motion forward, Parliament reaffirms the system. At the same time, it calls on the Federal Council to develop an even better and, if possible, fairer system. Only the SVP refused to support the motion. While it expressed understanding for the situation facing the local and regional press, it rejected the idea that indirect press subsidies should be exempt from future austerity measures on regulatory grounds. The goal should be to reduce government involvement, said Gregor Rutz (SVP/ZH), because diversity is at risk due to the government doing too much and thereby hindering structural change. Federal Councilor Doris Leuthard considered the motion to have been fulfilled, since indirect press subsidies were spared in the austerity programs. Early-morning delivery is an important tool for indirect press subsidies, she noted, as the regional press plays a significant role in public policy. However, any alternatives would require a constitutional amendment, and even the industry itself does not want that. (SDA)

7.6 million Germans watch Swiss national team

A market share of 34.8 percent was achieved, according to Horizon.net the Swiss match against Romania in Germany. That's one million viewers less than at the 6 p.m. match the day before - Austria, a German-speaking neighbor of Germany, also played there. Significantly more Germans watched the subsequent match between the other two group opponents, France and Albania: With a total rating of 12.44 million viewers, France's nail-biting victory achieved a market share of 45.6 percent. Despite the high proportion of Bundesliga players, the interest of the northern neighbors in the Swiss national team seems to remain within manageable limits - which is probably not least due to the fact that the Swiss have not yet attracted attention with their particularly attractive football.
