Ostschweiz am Sonntag devotes itself to the topic of time

Seven months after its launch, *Ostschweiz am Sonntag* is featuring a thematic focus for the first time. To mark the time change, all four editions will include articles about time, such as a feature story on the final days of a dying person.

"The entire editorial team was immediately enthusiastic about the idea of focusing on time to mark the time change," Christian Ortner, editor of Ostschweiz am Sonntag , told the news agency SDA on Friday.
Background stories and reports can be found in all four Sunday editions. The theme of time runs like a common thread through all sections. For example, readers can find out more about a man who changes the city's clocks every night or read about how a dying person experiences their last days and hours. "We want to offer our readers added value. No one has to do without the usual articles or interviews," assured Ortner.

Tamedia streamlines organizational structure

The Tamedia publishing group announced on Friday that it would streamline its organization effective early 2014. At the same time, it was announced that Eric Hoesli, editorial director of the French-Swiss newspapers, is stepping down.

Eric Hoesli is leaving the publishing house due to differences of opinion about strategy, organization and operations. In his letter of resignation, the 56-year-old states that the differences of opinion no longer allowed him to fulfill his responsibilities at Tamedia's Western Switzerland branch, according to a press release issued by Tamedia on Friday. "A certain number of red lines" had been crossed, Hoesli said on Friday at the request of the SDA news agency. He had already been thinking about his decision for weeks and had discussed problems with Pietro Supino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tamedia.

Supino regrets the move, as stated in the press release. Despite the termination, Tamedia hopes to be able to continue working with Hoesli and has made proposals to him at a national level. According to Tamedia, Hoesli asked to be able to think about this carefully first.

First editor-in-chief of Le Temps

Hoesli was editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper L'Hebdo before becoming the first editor-in-chief of the newspaper Le Temps following the merger of the Nouveau Quotidien and the Journal de Genève. Since the sale of the Edipresse publishing house to the Zurich publishing house Tamedia, he has worked as journalistic director for the newspapers in French-speaking Switzerland. He also represented Tamedia on the Board of Directors of the Swiss News Agency (SDA). Tamedia announced further reorganizations in the same press release. The function of journalistic director, which Hoesli held, will be abolished. The editors-in-chief of the major newspapers 24 heures, Tribune de Genève, Le Matin and Le Matin Dimanche will report to the Director of Tamedia Publications Romandes and Medien Deutschschweiz, Serge Reymond.

Head of Magazines leaves Tamedia

The organization is also being streamlined in German-speaking Switzerland. Reymond is now also responsible for the editorial offices of Annabelle, Finanz und Wirtschaft, Das Magazin and Schweizer Familie. The previous Head of Magazines at Tamedia, Christian Haberbeck, will be leaving the company in the coming months. Walter Vontobel will take over the management of the Swiss-German magazine publishing houses and the publishing house of Finanz und Wirtschaft as of January 1. The Sonntagszeitung will become part of Regionalmedien Deutschschweiz under the management of Ueli Eckstein. According to Tamedia, the new organization is intended to strengthen the journalistic autonomy and responsibility of the various editorial offices and enable more direct decision-making channels.

Financing for Watson in place

The new news portal Watson will definitely be launched in the first quarter of 2014, financed by AZ Medien and publisher Peter Wanner.

Since May 2013, a 15-member team of journalists, designers, marketing specialists and IT developers at the Zurich media startup Fixxpunkt has been designing the new news portal Watson. It is being financed by AZ Medien and BT Holding, according to an announcement on Sunday. Their boards of directors decided last week to take over the majority of shares in Fixxpunkt. A minority will remain with the development team. Peter Wanner, publisher and Chairman of the Board of AZ Medien and BT Holding, has already been involved in the project over the past months. His involvement will now put Watson on a financially sustainable footing, according to the statement.

The Watson team

Most of the Fixxpunkt employees who are already permanent employees previously worked at 20 Minuten Online for several years. Hansi Voigt, founder and Managing Director of Fixxpunkt, was Editor-in-Chief of the Tamedia portal until December 2012, while the two members of the Executive Board, Steven Goodman and Franz Ermel, were Head of Corporate Development and Deputy Editor-in-Chief respectively.

Last but not least: Don't google sick

The internet is full of information about diseases and their treatment options. This can be helpful in individual cases - but googling diseases usually only makes you even more ill.

You scour the internet to rid yourself of the rising anxiety, but then what you find sends you into a panic all the more. Because almost any physical symptom can be a sign of a deadly disease.

However, each symptom on the Internet also indicates a whole range of diseases. In other words, Google doesn't just give you one diagnosis, but many. The Brazilian agency Festo came up with the claim: You cant trust in a diagnosis with 2,110,000 results. Search for a reliable doctor. The accompanying Festo poster urges people to seek professional support for physical complaints and to take out insurance with the health insurance company Amil.

You get a single diagnosis from real doctors, not 2,110,000, or at least at most as many as you ask doctors. (sis)

Who will win an Edi.13?

Approximately 250 entries from the fields of advertising, industrial, and corporate films were submitted for an Edi. Fifty-two films were selected for the shortlist presented here. The awards will be presented on November 7 at the Schiffbau in Zurich.

With around 250 works, the Swissfilm Association sees a "gratifyingly large number of submissions" for the 2013 vintage. This is almost a "long-term high," says Managing Director Rita Kovacs. For President Peter Beck, the general level is also high. The jury could see "many well-produced works." Somewhat rarer were "the surprising outliers to the top". But if you look closely at the shortlist, "you will be able to guess the winners," says Rita Kovacs. Werbewoche shows here PDF of the shortlist (Werbewoche) the 52 films on the shortlist. The credits in detail are at this link: Shortlist Edi.13 with credits to find.

The film industry is in the midst of a process of change. The Internet has become Switzerland's biggest "cinema. Where companies used to present themselves with photos, moving images now call the shots. But not every picture says more than the famous 1000 words. There are also a lot of amateurs on the web. The technical changes are turning the film industry into a jekami. "This tempts some clients to use semi-professionals like these to make a film cheaply," says Peter Beck of the Swissfilm Association. But what is underestimated, in addition to autofocus, are the challenges of script development. That's why ideas, concepts and professionally created coherence have once again gained in importance when judging the entries for the Edi film competition.

Your campaign, your ticket to Dublin

The competition for young creatives, «Das kann nur ein Inserat,» is moving on to the next round. The winners will bring their work to life and travel to Dublin for the Best-Yet-Award. The deadline for registration is November 8, 2013.

The Swiss Media Association is organizing the print competition for the twelfth time. The task is the same as in previous years: Young creatives up to the age of 28 send in ideas for print advertisements that promote their peers. True to the motto "Only an advertisement can do that" (DKNEI). Whoever best fulfills this task receives a cash prize of 2,000 francs, plus the commission to realize the work and a fee to cover third-party costs.

Two winning DKNEI teams will also fly to Dublin in May at the invitation of the Swiss Media Association for the Best YET - "Best Young European Team". In this international challenge, each team has 24 hours to turn a briefing into an advertisement - plus 2 minutes to convince the jury and all participants. Whoever presents the best idea will fly to Cannes Lions in June.

The chances of winning at DKNEI are high, the association said in a press release. This is because it is possible to submit any number of works (either individual subjects or campaign ideas) and the jury can put up to 10 works on the winners' podium.

The jury

The works are completely anonymized so that neither the names of the entrants nor their employers are visible to the jury. This year's jurors are:

- Dominic Beyeler, freelance art director and illustrator, winner of DKNEI 2013
- Marcel Kohler, Managing Director of 20 Minuten and representative of the Swiss Media Association
- Thomas Kurzmeyer, Creative Director Wirz Advertising
- Simon Staub, Creative Director Leo Burnett
- Heinz Vögeli, Vice Director VBZ, Head of Human Resources and Corporate Communications

The jury president is Andreas Prokesch, who was responsible for the ADC Switzerland jury for 16 years.

The dates

- Briefing explanations (participation optional) November 12, 2013
(Register by November 8 at [email protected])
- Closing date January 14, 2014
- Judging January 24, 2014
- Award ceremony February 6, 2014
- best YET in Dublin May 22-24, 2014

More reasons why there is bad advertising. Chapter 3

Drawing on my nearly 50 years of experience in advertising, I have attempted to describe the reasons behind the creation of bad advertising through several theories. By Theophil Butz

Theory G: One of the most suitable advertising deterioration methods is to change the advertising campaign. I have often heard myself that after two years, the client demands a new advertising campaign. "We've all seen enough of that," he said. He worked on his campaign every day. It even adorned his office walls. It was clear that he had seen enough. However, the target audience only had contact with the 10 million advertising budget for a few seconds about ten times over two years. In addition, the consumer has seen up to 1000 advertising messages every day. So of course it is important to be present continuously for 20 or 30 years with advertising that gets under the skin and into the memory. Those who grew up in my generation can certainly still remember the HB cigarette TV commercials: "Why go up in the air right away, just reach for HB and everything will go by itself." Or "The scent of the big, wide world by Peter Styvesant". Not forgetting "Marlboro Country", the "purple cow" and the "Lovely milk cow". All advertising messages that have been preached to us for 30 years and more. And with great success. That's why they're still stuck in our minds today. So stop zapping.

Theory H: Anyone can invent, design and write advertising. The computer age has given this nonsense an extreme boost. When it comes to typography, hardly anyone today has any idea what spationing, weft, indentation, small caps, white space, slurs or dashes mean. Even trained graphic designers or polygraphers disregard every rule of the art. As a result, most advertising looks like shit. Not to mention e-newsletters and flyers. Some of what is then written is getting closer and closer to SMS jargon. An advertising idea is not only an idea when it is realized, but only when the addressee recognizes it as an advertising idea. A lot of advertising does not contain an idea because it is not recognized. Jekami is one of the reasons for bad advertising.

In this three-part column, I have tried to find out what the reasons might be for throwing so much advertising money out of the window. One of the reasons I haven't mentioned here is saving money on creation and realization. It's true: What costs little is usually worth little. Why does nobody make 75-page ads for the 75th anniversary (BMW) anymore? Why doesn't anyone make 1700 unique ads for a bitters anymore? Why doesn't anyone do good advertising with the same agency for 25 years (Swissair)? Unfortunately, our father Paul Gredinger, who influenced, promoted and supported these and many other quirky and original advertising ideas, has just died. Sadly, another good friend from the days of creative advertising passed away shortly afterwards. Farewell Gebi Schregenberger. In memory of you, there is no stand-up of the week today.

The puzzle of why advertising is not getting better, but rather significantly worse compared to the past. The solution is not as simple as scribbled here.
