Ruf Lanz: Apple tree subject for Hiltl

Both supporters and opponents of the mass immigration initiative have used apple trees to promote their causes in recent months. Now, Ruf Lanz, on behalf of Haus Hiltl, is showing that apple trees can be used for more than just campaign propaganda.

In the latest motif for the vegetarian restaurant, the most famous apple tree in Switzerland can be seen picked almost empty. Because Haus Hiltl's fine Swiss cider is fresh off the press. And that is once again a result that tastes good to everyone.

The subject is used online and offline in various applications.

Berlinale: Audience Award for Swiss film

Stefan Haupt's film "The Circle" also wins the Panorama Audience Award at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival after winning the Teddy Award.

Double victory for Swiss production: The 16th Panorama Audience Award of the 64th Berlinale goes to the Swiss film "The circle" by Stefan Haupt, produced by Contrast Film Zurich. The largest independent jury at the Berlinale - the audience - chose the Swiss docu-fiction "Der Kreis" from the 16 competing films in the Dokumente series. This is the very first time that this audience award has gone to Switzerland. Another record: The Circle is the first film in the history of the festival to win both the Audience Award and the Teddy Award at a Berlinale.

"Der Kreis" is set in the Zurich gay movement of the post-war period. It centers on the true love story of Röbi Rapp (Sven Schelker) and Ernst Ostertag (Matthias Hungerbühler), who met and fell in love in the environment of the trilingual gay magazine "Der Kreis - Le Cercle - The Circle".

"We are delighted that - especially in the current situation - a film with this theme has been so well received by the audience. On behalf of the entire film team, we would like to thank the Berlinale audience for this," said director Stefan Haupt and producer Ivan Madeo about the award.

For ten days, Berlinale visitors were able to rate a total of 52 feature-length films in the Panorama section, including 16 in the Panorama Dokumente series, on a scale from "Outstanding" to "Annoying" using voting cards in the cinemas and on the Internet. Over 31,000 viewers took part this year, making it the largest independent jury at the Berlinale.

On Saturday, "The Circle" was presented with the Berlinale Teddy Award in the "Best Documentary/Essay Film" category at a festive gala. Director Stefan Haupt, producers Ivan Madeo and Urs Frey, the two contemporary witnesses Ernst Ostertag and Röbi Rapp and the two main actors Matthias Hungerbühler and Sven Schelker accepted the award in person in Berlin from Mitra Farahani, member of the International Jury of the 64th Berlinale.

"The Circle" will be released in cinemas in Germany and Switzerland in the fall. The distribution rights to the USA, Canada and Poland were sold as part of the European Film Market at the Berlinale, and great interest was reported from France, the UK and Italy.

Last but not least: Just don't look down

Not for those afraid of heights: The Nord Face spot makes you dizzy just watching it.

Over the course of six minutes, filmmaker and climber Cedar Wright tells the story of Alex Honnold's amazing ascent in El Portrero Chico, Mexico for The Nord Face. The wall of terror is called El Sendero Luminoso and leads more than 750 meters vertically into the depths. Especially for people with a fear of heights, it is unimaginable how a person voluntarily takes on this challenge - unsecured, without a rope, of course. With his bare hands, Honnold fights his way up the threatening wall, filmed by his friend Wright. The height, which makes his stomach tingle just watching, doesn't seem to bother him: he calmly looks down again and again - and has fun doing it. "Once I started up, I was like this is awesome. I didn't blow a single foot - like a ballerina," he says. Outsideonline.com. But we are reassured. Sponsor The Nord Face is certainly reassured, too: The film - which, by the way, begins properly after a three-minute introduction - has met with lively interest on the Internet and generated almost 400,000 YouTube clicks in just a few days. For the manufacturer of outdoor clothing, the manageable risk - namely that the "investment" will crash - seems to have paid off. (hae)

Swiss allows smartphones and tablets

Swiss Airlines will allow its passengers to use smartphones and tablet computers during flights in the future. This also applies to takeoff and landing. The new policy could take effect in the middle of the year.

First, however, the conditions of use would have to be adapted and the Federal Office for Civil Aviation (FOCA) would have to be involved, Swiss wrote on Friday in response to a request. Until then, the current regulation will remain in place. The background to the measure is a new directive issued by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) in December, which is being implemented by various airlines. One step further than Swiss is the French airline Air France, which has adopted the same measure with immediate effect. Lufthansa had already announced on Thursday that it would allow the use of smartphones and tablet computers as of March 1. However, phone calls on board and the use of electronic devices via Bluetooth or Wifi remain prohibited. Thus, the sending or receiving of e-mails is also not allowed. (SDA)

Sponsorship Awards for Würth, Mammut and UBS

Almost 100 members of the Executive Board, marketing and sponsorship managers responded to the call of the "Swiss Sponsorship Think Tank" to select the best sponsorships of 2013. Würth, Mammut and UBS were honored.

13 projects were nominated in advance by a jury for the final event at the Sonnenberg Convention Center in Zurich. The jury, consisting among others of the CEOs of MCI Group, Corum, Bongénie-Grieder, the President of IMD Business School as well as communication and marketing experts, was chaired by Patrick Cotting, CEO of CCI Cotting Consulting. The President of the Swiss Sponsorship Think Tank & CEO of the Sponsorize agency, Sebastian Chiappero, and the Jury President pointed out right at the beginning of the Awards ceremony that the Swiss Sponsorship Awards wanted to honor the best sponsorships of the year, and not those who submitted a project. "All nominees are therefore already winners. Because the jury looked at countless sponsorships, and nominated those that stood out for their uniqueness and innovation."

A hybrid program

Following the vision of the "Swiss Sponsorship Think Tank " to encourage decision makers in companies and institutions to professionalize the use of the sponsorship instrument, an in-depth seminar on "Sponsorship in the context of the digital revolution" was offered in the afternoon. Representatives from CCI, Swisscom and IBM presented an overview of the latest trends, approaches and tools. The round of talks with Fifa managers revolved around the questions of how Fifa has managed to maximize its revenue by means of sponsorship and what its position is on possible reputational damage for Fifa, for the country of Brazil and for sponsors in view of riots in Brazil.

The 13 nominations were presented by members of the jury, complemented by statements from the nominated companies and institutions represented in the auditorium. After the presentation of the awards by the president of IMD and the CEOs of MCI Group, Bongénie-Grieder and CCI Cotting Consulting, the marketing and sponsorship heads of Swisscom, Raiffeisen, Swiss Indoors and UEFA spoke about the influence of compliance issues on sponsorship offers and ways of continuing to invite decision-makers to sports and cultural events. They also explored the question of whether sponsorship will develop more in the direction of an ownership or CSV approach, and whether profitability considerations could gain the upper hand as a result.

The 13 nominations:

Raiffeisen - Raiffeisen Superleague // Migros - I'm Fit // Mammut - Peak Project // Groupe Mutuel - We do something for your health // La Mobilière - Fête Fédérale de Lutte 2013 // Longines - FEI - Global Champions Tour // UBS - Exposition Qin // Postfinance - Das Zelt // Baloise Assurances - Baloise Session // Hublot - Depeche Mode - Charity: Water // Rolex - Mentors et Protégés // Cardinal - Original Dzodzet // Würth - Special Olympics

The "Swiss Sponsorship Think Tank" concluded by saying that the third edition of the Swiss Sponsorship Awards would again be held in Lausanne at the beginning of 2015, before returning to Zurich in 2016.

Tages-Anzeiger introduces new authors

The Tages-Anzeiger is introducing six new writers who will be contributing regularly to the society and culture section going forward.

Unbenannt-33_2

In Saturday's issue, cultural journalist Daniele Muscionico comments on the best press photos of 2013, which were awarded on Friday. The multi-award-winning cultural journalist will in future be a permanent contributor to the culture and society section, writing in particular about photography, art and international theater.

Paulina Szczesniak is now responsible for the arts editorial department. In addition to "Züritipp," she is also responsible for reporting on arts topics in the arts editorial department.

As of March 1, Michèle Roten will also become a new author. In addition to her work for Das Magazin, she will in future write regularly for the Tages-Anzeiger. From her work for Das Magazin (which she will continue) and as a book author ("How to be a mother", "How to be a woman"), it has a loyal circle of regular readers on social and cultural topics.

In addition, the second episode of "Bonbons & Granaten," the series by new columnist Güzin Kar, appears today in the Culture and Society section. The first episode last Saturday, written (with a prophetic gift) on the outcome of the past voting weekend, was well received by readers, according to Tages-Anzeiger.

New to the Tages-Anzeiger's team of film critics is Pascal Blum, who succeeds Florian Keller, who is moving to the weekly newspaper. The young colleague, who has attracted attention with his trenchant articles and his own column, has been working in this role for Züritipp for many years and, together with Christoph Schneider, will review the major film premieres in the Tages-Anzeiger in the future.

Finally, the society section will also be strengthened by gastro critic Daniel Böniger. Having previously worked for Züritipp and Vinum, he is considered a proven connoisseur of the culinary world and replaces the retired Paul Imhof (who will continue to write occasionally for the Tages-Anzeiger). Böniger will become the most important voice on culinary issues at the paper. (TA)

NZZ allowed to report on Swisscom data again

The NZZ is once again allowed to report on the data theft at Swisscom. The Bern Commercial Court has lifted the super-provisional injunction against the NZZ that Swisscom had obtained. According to a statement released on Friday, Swisscom accepts the decision.

NZZ was "satisfied but not surprised" by the court's decision, as NZZ media spokeswoman Bettina Schibli said on request. Swisscom, in turn, stressed that even if the super-provisional injunction was lifted, the Commercial Court had clearly stated in the reasons for the ruling that further publication of findings in tidbits could constitute a violation of the Federal Act against Unfair Competition.

Other articles?

According to Swisscom, NZZ emphasized during the proceedings that it "no longer wants to publish any specific customer data". However, Swisscom wants all data to be destroyed. Switzerland's largest telecom group is also demanding that NZZ refrain from publishing further articles on the data. NZZ would not comment on any of the points raised by Swisscom to the SDA news agency. However, when asked, Schibli wrote: "The facts of the data theft will remain a relevant journalistic topic for the NZZ in the future."

Names of customers published

Last September, the NZZ made it public that the editorial team was in possession of four data tapes from Swisscom. The company then filed a criminal complaint against unknown persons. On December 20, 2013, the newspaper published another article on the data leak. In it, it wrote that the tapes also contained contact data for 972 celebrities, including federal councillors, members of the National Council and the Council of States, and business exponents, as well as stars from the worlds of sport, art and showbiz. The newspaper also named names. On the same day, Swisscom appealed to the Commercial Court and obtained an interim injunction. This prohibited the NZZ from publishing data on Swisscom customers. Swisscom argued that there was no public interest in publishing customer data.

Tapes from Swisscom data centers

The four tapes had disappeared from two Swisscom data centers in Ostermundigen BE in 2012. They were actually destined for destruction and had been leaked to the newspaper a few months before the data leak was revealed. Last fall, NZZ returned three tapes to Swisscom. The fourth tape had "allegedly been destroyed by the source," according to investigations by the public prosecutor's office, Swisscom said in December. At the time, the group already accused NZZ of copying the data. NZZ has not yet commented on this accusation.

What was on it?

According to the newspaper, 60 million data records from two backups from 2008 to 2010 were on the tapes, including internal company e-mails from 2004 to 2008. Contracts, orders, billing orders, telephone numbers and notices of layoffs at Swisscom were also on the tapes. According to the NZZ, it is also apparent for which companies Swisscom monitors servers and with which municipalities and cantonal offices it cooperates. According to Swisscom, IBAN account numbers of customers who pay by direct debit are also among the data.

Criminal proceedings on hold

In the meantime, the search for the data thief himself came to nothing. The Bern-Mittelland public prosecutor's office therefore suspended its proceedings in December. On Friday, Swisscom expressed the hope that the NZZ would help clarify the "specific circumstances under which the data tapes went missing.

Exhibition "Good to print" is extended

The successful exhibition «Gut zum Druck - Kunst und Werbung bei Wolfensberger» at the National Museum Zurich is being extended by two weeks until March 16, 2014.

The show provides a glimpse into the history and operations of a Zurich company that operates at the intersection of art and commerce. "Good to print" has been displaying a wide range of first-class printed matter, arranged by decade, from original prints to art reproductions since October 25, 2013. The majority of the exhibits come from a donation to the Swiss National Museum by the descendants of J. E. Wolfensberger, made possible by the Swiss Graphic Design Foundation.
