Publicis: The Queen speaks to the Swiss people

UBS is once again serving as a gold sponsor at this year’s Swiss Wrestling and Alpine Festival. Publicis is promoting this partnership with the campaign «The King of Switzerland.»

Thereby the future king of the wrestlers will be compared with a real king. As part of the campaign, ticktes for da Fest will be raffled.

As usual, when the coronation of a new king is imminent in Europe, other monarchs are invited to the ceremony. In our case, the British Queen. In a speech, she addresses the Swiss people to convey her congratulations on the upcoming election. In doing so, the monarch notes with regret that she and her husband will not be able to attend and therefore makes her tickets available to the Swiss. The speech was recorded in London by the same cameraman who films the Queen's legendary Christmas address.

The film will be played exclusively online. It will be shown as a Youtube and Zattoo preroll and distributed via Native Posts embedded editorially on social media. All social channels lead to the microsite, where you can participate in the ticket raffle. The campaign is also complemented with typo-subjects, which are used as ads, e-screens and display banners.

emmi-usp-partner

Emmi Caffè Latte carried out the Fresh City Tour for the fourth time, during which seven major Swiss cities enjoyed iced Emmi Caffè Latte over the course of ten days via a creative and large-scale sampling. The USP promoter team distributed free samples to passers-by on branded Segways. Switzerland's largest milk processor Emmi, headquartered in Lucerne, once again commissioned the full-service marketing agency USP Partner to design, plan and implement the marketing campaign. USP was already responsible for the Fresh City Tour of Emmi Caffè Latte in the past two years.

In addition to tour, route and deployment planning, partner management and the procurement of promotional material, the agency's tasks also included the complex planning of the entire logistics for the tour. A small, powerful team of seven promoters recruited by USP was prepared for their assignment through comprehensive training - including Segway driving training - and took over all ten implementation days. Thanks to the route predefined by USP at high-frequency locations, the promotion team was able to serve a total of 50'000 passers-by an iced Emmi Caffè Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino or Strong Macchiato with charm and a smile over the entire tour.

The eye-catching Emmi Caffè Latte Fresh City Tour once again generated a large number of product trials and brand awareness, as well as a personal dialogue with the target group, according to the press release. To ensure high-quality implementation, the USP project team personally accompanied the promotional tour on location for days at a time and also organized the video shoot for this year's Fresh City Tour mood film:

WLAN trouble: UPC distributes modems

Because the Horizon box causes problems, UPC gives customers separate modems.

upc-horizon
Horizon is once again causing headaches for UPC: the box that bundles the cable network operator's TV, telephone and Internet services has recently been causing more and more displeasure among customers. The reason: the WLAN modem function often does not work correctly. As Schweiz am Sonntag writes, there has been an increase in cancellations from dissatisfied customers. In response to the technical problems, UPC has begun sending out separate WLAN modems free of charge. On the one hand to customers who complain, on the other hand some are written to by UPC itself - the WLAN modem is advertised as a loyalty gift. As UPC spokesman Bernhard Strapp told the newspaper, the demands on WLAN performance are constantly increasing with new receivers and more and more connected devices. The new box, he said, is intended to ensure that customers "can achieve peak performance from UPC's network today and in the future." In addition, UPC intends to respond to the threat of customer loss with free technician visits to customers with WLAN problems.

Horizon was launched by UPC (then UPC Cablecom) in Switzerland in 2013. However, the technically versatile and powerful box has repeatedly caused problems since its market launch. Among other things, important functions such as replay, the ability to watch HD content on multiple TVs, the Android app, the ability to use the 5 GHz band for WLAN - were missing at launch. From critics the company was accused of "salami tactics" at the time. Customers also complained about sudden crashes. The problems were subsequently fixed by UPC with several firmware updates and improved remote controls. (hae)

Valora tests app for self-scanning

Valora is currently testing an app at Zurich main station that makes queuing at kiosk checkouts superfluous.

scango

As Schweiz am Sonntag writes in its current issue, the Scan&Go" iPhone app is being tested at three kiosk locations in the main station. Anyone who installs the app can photograph products and pay for them immediately using the credit card details provided. Alcohol, tobacco and gambling products are excluded. Developed by "Scan & Go" from the "Auto-ID Lab" at ETH Zurich and the University of St. Gallen. The Swiss company Scandit is also supplying the barcode scanner technology. It is currently unclear whether the new payment option will also be used at other kiosks. "Scan & Go" is part of Valora's digital strategy. The operator of K-Kiosk and Avec stores founded Valora Labs back in 2015, a company dedicated to the development of digital products. The traditional kiosk business has been under pressure for years - not least due to press sales, which have been shrinking continuously for years. (hae/SaS)

Last but not least: More home than appearance

Y&R New York wants to encourage people, on behalf of PETA, to adopt a dog from a shelter rather than buy one from a breeder.

dalmatiner-t
It is better to give a faithful, grateful companion a new life than to acquire the breeding "trophy" of a breeder. That's the opinion of the animal rights organization Peta, which has had Y&R visualize its cause. And quite convincingly. Good old print ads with an aha effect. "Don't buy a Trophy from a Breeder. Adopt a Companion." Even though the subject matter would certainly need to be differentiated a bit. Especially since home dogs belong in particularly experienced and competent hands, depending on their history. But basically: Good thing. And at least as well advertised. (hae).

Christian Dorer becomes Sonntagsblick Editor-in-Chief

According to reports in the Sunday press, Christian Dorer is leaving the Aargauer Zeitung for Zurich to take over as editorial director at the Sonntagsblick.

cdorer
According to the Sonntagszeitung, Dorer signed the contract "after a long back and forth" and thus outdid Philipp Pfister. Pfister took over the management of the newspaper in May after the Departure of Christine Maier ad interim. Since then, he has been waiting to be appointed official boss, according to the "Politohr" column. Dorer's appointment is also reported by the NZZ am Sonntag.

Dorer is a graduate of the Ringier School of Journalism, worked for Blick in the business department from 2001 and then for Sonntagsblick as a correspondent for the Federal Parliament. In 2007, he became deputy editor-in-chief of Sonntagsblick (Werbewoche.ch reported), before being appointed editor-in-chief of the Aargauer Zeitung in 2009 (Werbewoche.ch reported). (hae)

Mint designs bathing rules for migrants

Minz, a visual design agency in Lucerne, was commissioned by the Swiss Life-Saving Society (SLRG) to design the informational materials for the «Swimming Rules for Migrants» campaign.

minz-01

This year, more than 30 people have already drowned in Switzerland; among them 17 migrants alone. Many underestimate the risks of rivers and lakes and/or cannot swim properly. This prompted the Swiss Lifesaving Society (SLRG), the Swiss Red Cross and the Association of Indoor and Outdoor Swimming Pools to launch an information campaign. The documents will be made available in August 2016 to counseling centers for migrants, asylum centers, etc., where they will be discussed with the migrants.

Representing cultural diversity

Minz, an agency for visual design, worked with illustrator Corina Vögele to create the graphic design for the documents in seven languages. "The work was also interesting for us because the documents had to be internationally comprehensible and the different cultural backgrounds of the migrants had to be taken into account," says Susann Blum, owner of Minz. For example, the images had to take into account the diversity aspect in terms of skin color, gender and clothing of the people depicted. This also included taking into account the image conventions of the different cultures as well as the different reading directions of the writing systems.

minz-05

In every indoor and outdoor swimming pool, there are posters with the six most important swimming rules of the SLRG - represented in the distinctive blue-red pictograms. "In addition to these rules, we developed six further pictograms with a recommendatory character. Here, too, it was particularly interesting to design the pictograms in such a way that people from other cultural backgrounds in particular would understand them," says Susann Blum.

Film Music Award for Niki Reiser

For his original score for the film «Heidi,» Basel-based composer Niki Reiser has been awarded the Fondation Suisa Film Music Prize, worth 25,000 francs, in the feature film category.

nikireiser

Composing a story like Johanna Spyri's "Heidi" is a difficult undertaking. It is a story that is known far beyond the country's borders. A story that has been made into a movie several times. It tells of great emotions, of worlds that collide. And it takes place in the middle of the Swiss mountain idyll, which has made it a tourist attraction that should not be underestimated. The clichés are ready and waiting, you just have to grab them.

Film music composer Niki Reiser did not. Having already scored Markus Imboden's cinematic interpretation of Heidi in 2001, Reiser's aim for the 2015 remake was to "avoid Swiss melodies in order to follow the inner emotionality of the main character and to contrast the great Swiss images with personal longing and joy as an independent form of expression, rather in the sense of a universal narrative and musical language".

The expert jury was unanimous: Niki Reiser has achieved this brilliantly. According to the jury, his apt melodic inventions, his string movements, his sensitivity and his empathy for the cinematic events had made a significant contribution to making "Heidi" a film that touched the eye, ear and heart. It clearly recognized Reiser's original music as "the work of a great master of film music, of whom Switzerland can only be proud".

These clear words are no coincidence. For "Heidi", the Basel composer received the Fondation Suisa's film music prize for the third time after 2001 ("Kalt ist der Abendhauch"; director: Rainer Kaufmann) and 2011 ("Das Blaue vom Himmel"; director: Hans Steinbichler) - a strong sign of Reiser's continuous work.

Niki Reiser was born in Reinach, Aargau, in 1958 and grew up in Basel. He discovered music by playing the flute and began composing for various bands and musical formations as a teenager. After graduating from high school, he attended the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston (USA), where he studied jazz and classical composition with a focus on film scoring. Niki Reiser made a name for himself on the German and international film scene through his many years of collaboration with directors Dani Levy and Caroline Link. He has been awarded the German Film Prize five times for his work. Niki Reiser lives and works in his home town of Basel. The Fondation Suisa Film Music Prize will be awarded to Niki Reiser on August 7, 2016 at the Locarno International Film Festival.
