Last but not least: Advertising that does not interfere

Currently, a handful of unobtrusive posters promoting «non-advertising» are on display in Zurich, Basel, and Bern. With a simple idea, the campaign highlights a major advantage of Teleclub: the pay-TV channel does not show any disruptive commercials.

The eye-catching, unobtrusive Teleclub campaign comprises just 14 posters and just as many individual subjects that will catch the eye of even those weary of advertising. The elaborate series was conceived and implemented by the agency Advico Y&R. Since March 31, the posters can be seen in highly frequented locations in Zurich, Basel and Bern. They show that it is possible without advertising that disturbs. (sis)

Buzzfeed: Scott Lamb on data analysis and shared content

In an interview with the Sonntagszeitung, BuzzFeed Vice President Scott Lamb discusses shared content and data analysis. He considers a takeover of Watson a possible scenario, but says no acquisition has been made so far.

"We are beginners when it comes to expansion," Scott Lamb told the Sonntagszeitung. If Buzzfeed were to do something like this, it would be because they are interested in the people who work there. In principle, it would be possible, he concludes.

According to Lamb, three things are needed for success: a good editorial team, solid technology and an advertising product that people will buy. "If you only have two of these, it's going to be tough," he tells the Sonntagszeitung.

For Buzzfeed, the most valuable content is the content that has been shared the most. Data analysis is therefore essential. The company has already started using its own analysis tools to study how far people scroll down a story or how much time they spend on a piece of content. "I think it's increasingly about analyzing what people are actually doing on the site," he explains in an interview with the Sonntagszeitung. This also means that media companies will have to focus more on data analysis in the future. Anything else would be short-sighted. Data analysis not only makes the product better for the reader and can help journalists to approach their work differently, it can also deliver better advertising products. "You can improve everything if you can measure," says Lamb.

Last but not least: Hollywood and drug advertising

Two Russian movie theater chains are each required to pay a fine of about 16,450 euros after showing the drug- and alcohol-fueled drama 'The Wolf of Wall Street.« Why? Drug advertising.

The cinemas had illegally advertised narcotics, judge Yelena Fyodorova in Novosibirsk told the Itar-Tass agency on Friday. The cinema operators, however, emphasized that the Ministry of Culture in Moscow had approved the Hollywood film. The film had not been objected to in other Russian cities.

Yelena Fyodorova would probably have liked this little comic better:

But the judge probably hasn't even seen the movie "The Wolf of Wall Street". Otherwise she would hardly be talking about "drug advertising". Otherwise, perhaps someone should explain to the judge what is actually meant by the word "advertising". (uma/SDA)

SRG: 20 million francs profit

SRG closed the 2013 fiscal year with a profit of 20.1 million Swiss francs. Compared to the previous year, production and personnel expenses in particular declined. On the other hand, SRG also saw a decrease in advertising revenue.

Last year, no major sporting event on the scale of the Olympic Games or a football World Cup took place, SRG announced on Friday. Such major events would always drive up costs.

Personnel expenses amounted to CHF 673.9 million in 2013, compared to CHF 814 million in the previous year. Program and production expenses fell by around 11.4 million francs to 593 million francs. Overall, operating expenses amounted to CHF 1.60 billion last year.

Less advertising revenue

However, it is not only expenditure that has fallen, but also income. This was mainly due to falling advertising revenue. At CHF 348.5 million, SRG took in around CHF 11 million less from advertising in 2013.

SRG blames this partly on the fact that audience figures could not be published in the spring due to measurement problems. This had a significant impact on advertising revenue. Following the switch to a new measurement system for TV audience figures, publication of the figures had to be postponed last year.

However, the most important source of income for SRG is reception fees. Last year, SRG collected CHF 1.2 billion from these fees - around CHF 15 million more than in the previous year. This means that reception fees still account for around three quarters of revenue.

In total, operating income amounted to CHF 1.62 billion last year - compared to CHF 1.64 billion in the previous year.

Pension fund reorganized

SRG had still reported a deficit of CHF 117 million for 2012. Provisions for pension fund benefits amounting to CHF 160 million weighed on the accounts at the time. The majority of these provisions related to the reduction in the technical interest rate from 4 to 3.25 percent.

The pension fund is now positioned for the future and can react better to fluctuations on the investment markets, SRG announced. The 2013 Annual Report will be submitted to the SRG Delegates' Meeting for approval on April 25. (SDA)

Habegger wins Export Award 2014

Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) presented the 2014 Export Award on April 3. The award in the «Step-in» category went to Habegger for its market entry into the Gulf region, where it designs, plans, and installs event technology.

The company Habegger from Regensdorf (ZH) has already implemented three huge event projects in Qatar and founded its own branch office with a European managing director in Doha in January 2014. The company has been realizing complex event projects in an international environment for years. In the Arab region, this included a comprehensive technology and lighting project for the Asian Games in 2006, an elaborate lighting project for an entire city district in Doha in 2013 and a decoration project for National Day with large-scale flower carpets in Doha's public spaces. The collaboration in Qatar has resulted in trusting business contacts in the Gulf state, which have encouraged Habegger to establish itself directly on site as a service provider and tackle new large-scale projects, as the company writes in a press release. Qatar's national vision (Vision 2030), which aims to position the country as a sports and knowledge center in the Arab region and for which major international events and congresses are planned, has contributed to this. As Managing Director, Thomas Wasshuber manages the business of Habegger Productions LLC in Doha on a daily basis. Habegger sees the future of the event in the Arab region and is anticipating major projects for sporting events and congresses in Qatar.

The Export Award was presented for the seventh time as part of S-GE's annual foreign trade forum in front of around 700 guests. With this award, S-GE (formerly OSEC) honors companies whose market entry or strategy for market entry abroad is considered successful and innovative. A ten-member jury assesses the projects submitted and honors one Swiss company in each of the "Success" and "Step-in" categories with this recognition award. Ruth Metzler-Arnold, President of S-GE, presented the award to the two winners at Messe Zürich.
