Last but not least: let the puppets dance

Starting in late April, the puppets of the world-famous Augsburger Puppenkiste will be dancing again. The puppets will show who’s really in charge in Fairy Tale Land these days. Because Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, and Little Red Riding Hood can be quite different...

What could possibly happen to Snow White behind the seven mountains with the seven dwarfs? Maybe apples, fresh apples. And what threatens Little Red Riding Hood in the dark forest? Let's ask the wolf: "So that I can eat you better," he says. "And why are you giving up tax benefits?" asks Little Red Riding Hood. His answer: "So that I... er, tax benefits?". Conclusion: Register your domestic help in a private household with the mini-job center, set an example against undeclared work and don't forego tax benefits. On TV, in print and online, the puppets are intended to send out a signal against undeclared work and advocate the registration of domestic help in private households. But the commercials explain it better. (uma)

NZZ Media Group: Shareholders are in favor of retaining the party clause

At the annual general meeting, NZZ shareholders voted in favor of retaining the existing restriction on the transfer of shares. Thus, only those who are members of the «FDP»—or at least do not belong to any other political party and profess a liberal-democratic outlook—may become shareholders.

With the votes against a party clause, a signal was sent for the journalistic independence of the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung," the NZZ said in a statement. As the question of whether this provision should be relaxed was also raised by various shareholders, the Board of Directors held an advisory vote on the party clause. At the same time, the Board of Directors spoke out against a softening of this provision.

The two members of the Board of Directors Carolina Müller-Möhl and Dominique von Matt were elected for a
re-elected for a further term.

SRF Sport puts together a new soccer team

After the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, there will be changes in the SRF football team. Long-time figureheads Beni Thurnheer, Hanspeter Latour and Gilbert Gress are leaving the international SRF football stage.

New to SRF's team of experts is German football coach Volker Finke, formerly a coach in the German Bundesliga and currently national coach of Cameroon. Together with Benjamin Huggel and presenter Matthias Hüppi, Finke will form the trio for Wednesday's Champions League coverage. This was announced by SRF on Saturday.

The Tuesday games are presented by presenter Rainer Maria Salzgeber and pundit Alain Sutter. In future, Salzgeber will also cover the Swiss national team's matches, together with former national team player Raphaël Wicky. Alain Sutter will support the two of them until fall 2014 - in other words, during the transition phase between the Hitzfeld era and the start of the new national team coach Vladimir Petkovic. The new expert in the Super League will be Gürkan Sermeter.

Following the conclusion of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Hanspeter Latour is retiring from his role as co-commentator in the Super League and as radio commentator for the Swiss national team. Latour wants to devote himself to private projects in future. Gilbert Gress will also no longer be a regular football pundit for SRF from the new season. Beni Thurnheer will continue to commentate on national matches in future.

Urs Leutert, Head of SRF Sport, on the personnel change: "I am looking forward to the new constellation and am convinced that the new pairings will bring a breath of fresh air to our football coverage. On behalf of SRF, I would like to thank Gilbert Gress and Hanspeter Latour for their commitment and the many entertaining hours. Both are strong personalities who have left their unmistakable mark on SRF's football coverage in recent years."

According to SDA, Latour will retire from his activities as co-commentator in the Super League and as radio commentator for the Swiss national team after the World Cup in Brazil and devote himself to private projects. Gress, whose contract is due to expire, will no longer be a regular football pundit for SRF from the new season. Benard Thurnheer will continue to commentate on national matches in future.

Google Plus manager Vic Gundotra leaves

After eight years, Google Plus manager Vic Gundotra is leaving the online network. He writes this in his farewell post on G+.

Apart from private motivations, Gundotra did not give any other reasons. As Kress.de wrote on Friday, "Financial Times" and "TechCrunch" are said to have learned that Google Plus is undergoing far-reaching restructuring. According to the Financial Times, Google Plus is now to be marketed as a less independent online network. "TechCrunch" writes that Google Plus will be reduced to its platform role. Around 1,000 software developers will be assigned to other areas. For example, the team behind the "Hangouts" video chats will move to the Android operating system.

Apparently, it is not Gundotra's deputy Brad Horowitz who is now to take over the chief executive position, but Dave Besbris, who, like Horowitz, helped build Google+ from the very beginning.

Swisscom shows interest in Local.ch

Swisscom has made a non-binding offer to the advertising agency Publigroupe to purchase its stake in Local.ch. Tamedia still intends to acquire Publigroupe.

Swisscom announced on Friday that it is also interested in Publigroupe's stake in Local.ch. Publigroupe's Board of Directors has taken note of Swisscom's non-binding offer to acquire the stake in Local.ch at a price of CHF 230 million. Publigroupe made this announcement in a press release on Friday. This purchase offer will be considered, however, taking into account Tamedia's public purchase offer, which was pre-announced on April 17. Swisscom spokesperson Carsten Roetz told SDA that the complete takeover of the platform had been a topic of discussion at Swisscom for some time. "Our offer is not a reaction to that of Tamedia."

Last week, Tamedia announced that it had submitted a pre-announcement for a public tender offer for Publigroupe (Werbewoche.ch reported). Tamedia's takeover plans primarily target the Local.ch platform, which is operated by LTV Gelbe Seiten and Swisscom Directories. The platform is currently jointly owned by Publigroupe and Swisscom.

Christoph Zimmer, spokesman for the media group, did not wish to comment on whether the purchase offer would now be improved due to the competing offer from Swisscom when asked by the SDA news agency. "We are taking note of the offer now announced by Swisscom for Local.ch and will take it into account in our assessment", Zimmer said. Tamedia will present the offer prospectus around May 27. "We are convinced of our concept and that it could create an even stronger Swiss directory provider", Zimmer continued. Tamedia currently already owns 75 percent of Local.ch's competitor Search.ch.

According to the pre-announcement, Tamedia is offering CHF 150 per Publigroupe share. According to SDA, the calculated value of the transaction thus amounts to around CHF 350 million. However, Tamedia itself already holds a 7.22 percent stake in Publigroupe.

Facebook: New news service "FB Newswire"

Facebook apparently now wants to establish itself as a news service as well. The newly launched «FB Newswire» page is designed to filter out content that might be of interest to journalists.

Facebook is cooperating with the company Storyful, which belongs to Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. According to Nzz.ch, this is what Andy Mitchell, Director News and Global Media Partnerships, writes in the company blog. In order to find relevant news on social media platforms, Facebook has already hired a few journalists.

From now on, editorial offices will receive "newsworthy content" that was previously shared publicly by private individuals or organizations, as Horizont.net writes. The content includes verified photos, videos or status messages from people who followed events such as demonstrations, elections or sporting events live. There is always a link to the original post.

Wirz: For Ikea 600 garden furniture hidden

Over 70,000 people took part in IKEA's furniture hunt over Easter. Wirz Werbung is responsible for the campaign.

To whet people's appetites for summer with Ikea, Wirz Werbung unceremoniously equipped the entire country with furnishing ideas: 600 pieces of garden furniture were hidden in the open air. Anyone who found a piece of furniture was allowed to keep it and take it home. The national ambient campaign took place on Maundy Thursday in six regions and set the mood for Easter with the search.

Essential for the Ikea furniture search was the online part of the campaign: On the website Ikea.ch/furniture-search clues as to where the furniture was hiding were revealed on the day of the search. Via smartphone, people could navigate to the places where garden furniture was located within a radius of about 100 meters with the help of interactive maps.

Last but not least: Dog he moves after all

Woman runs over dog: Russian car cameras record everything. Why is the video still funny? See for yourself.

Car cameras - so-called dashcams - are also slowly gaining ground in this country. Ever since a driver filmed how the "Bagger Depp" demolished a bridge in January, many drivers have felt the need to record their journeys on video. As is always the case when people film wildly in public spaces, data protectionists cry foul. Fortunately.

Dashcams have long been standard on Russia's wild roads. When it comes to questions of fault in accidents, the recordings have become indispensable. The rest of the world is happy: for years, Russian drivers have been providing YouTube with the most hair-raising, fascinating and funny scenes from everyday life on the road. The program "The Road War" is a ratings hit on Russian television. Speaking of a ratings hit: this video with an unexpected twist and a happy ending will probably be too. (hae)
