Last but not least: The truth about selfies

This YouTube clip, in which Megatron explains to a girl why her generation is disappointing, has already been viewed over a million times.

She just wanted a selfie with him. He reacts with a rant: "You with your ridiculous fur hoodie. Nobody cares about your status update. Use your brain, interact with others." Her response to the harsh words: "Ok - bye, hihihi." (sis)

Criticism of the merger of the NZZ regional media

The directors of economic affairs in Eastern Switzerland are concerned about the NZZ's announcement that it will place its regional media outlets based in St. Gallen and Lucerne under a single management structure.

The Conference of Economic Directors of Eastern Switzerland (VDK Ost) discussed the current development at their meeting in Frauenfeld. The Tagblatt media group affects the basic journalistic supply in Eastern Switzerland, they wrote in a press release on Wednesday. The changes give cause for serious concern.

At the end of October, the NZZ Group announced that it would be closing its regional media (daily and Sunday newspapers, the portals Tagblatt.ch and Luzernerzeitung.ch as well as Radio Pilatus and Tele 1) into a single division under the umbrella of Freie Presse Holding. Jürg Weber from Central Switzerland will be in charge.

For the economic directors of Eastern Switzerland, the need to rethink and adapt existing business models due to the crisis in the media industry is understandable. Nevertheless, the latest announcements by the NZZ Group should be viewed very critically, writes the VDK Ost.

Journalistic decline feared

It is unacceptable to be supplied with journalistic content by a merged editorial team that has to cover two separate areas. This would lead to a journalistic uniformity that would not do justice to the specific characteristics of the two regions. According to the VDK Ost, the regional relevance of important domestic and economic policy issues would be diluted or lost completely. The region is threatened with a journalistic decline with considerable consequences for the self-image and identity of Eastern Switzerland.

The Conference of Economic Directors of Eastern Switzerland has intervened with the Board of Directors of NZZ. It wants to know what measures the media company is taking to secure the basic media supply in Eastern Switzerland.

Evoq: Infinite Christmas

Just in time for the holiday season, the Shoppi Tivoli shopping center is launching its new communications strategy, developed by Evoq.

"My world as I like it" is the motto of the current campaign and also the new claim of Switzerland's largest shopping center. With this, the traditional store in Spreitenbach clearly expresses its new positioning: Here you can find everything your heart desires in a stylish shopping ambience.

//www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrwM-JV14KM

It is precisely this individual diversity that the Zurich agency Evoq has brought to the point with its new concept. The images, composed of different scenes, show the infinite variety and personal wishes that come true at Shoppi Tivoli. A principle that can be implemented strikingly in a wide variety of channels and can currently be seen on TV, radio and posters in and around Shoppi Tivoli.

Annual review of press freedom in 2014

The annual balance sheet of Reporters Without Borders shows that significantly more media professionals were kidnapped in 2014 than in 2013, and twice as many fled abroad as in the previous year. The number of media workers killed fell slightly, but remains high.

Media professionals must increasingly expect to be kidnapped in the course of their work: Reporters Without Borders (ROG) counted 119 kidnappings of journalists worldwide in 2014 - 37 percent more than in 2013. This is shown in the current ROG annual press freedom report. Compared to 2013, the total number of journalists (139) and citizen journalists (20) who had to flee abroad to escape threats, violence or state reprisals has more than doubled. 66 journalists, slightly fewer than in 2013, were killed because of their work, as were 19 citizen journalists and 11 media employees.

In some regions, a new and frightening type of violence has emerged in the treatment of journalists: Media-effectively staged beheadings by IS and mass attacks against journalists in some countries are evidence of an inhumane attitude and extreme disregard for freedom of information. ROG demands that media professionals must be protected more effectively than before, especially in crisis regions.

As in the previous year, the world's most dangerous country for media professionals in 2014 was Syria: 15 professional journalists and 17 citizen journalists were killed there and 27 media professionals were kidnapped. The most dangerous countries and territories for media professionals this year included the Palestinian territories, particularly the Gaza Strip, as well as eastern Ukraine, Iraq and Libya.

There are currently 178 journalists in prison worldwide because of their work. The number of imprisoned citizen journalists is just as high. In many countries, the latter use social networks to fill the information gaps left by repression, censorship or self-censorship in reporting by the traditional media. The countries with the most imprisoned journalists are China (29), Eritrea (28), Iran (19), Egypt (16) and Syria (13). In addition to China (73), Iran (27) and Syria (17), a particularly large number of citizen journalists are also in prison in Vietnam (27) and Saudi Arabia (9). Reporters Without Borders recorded the highest number of escaped media professionals from Libya (43), Syria (37) and Ethiopia (31).

Polyconsult: The time of ham is here again

At no time of the year is as much meat bought as in the last two weeks of the year. With a Christmas campaign, Schweizer Fleisch and Polyconsult are ensuring that Swiss people use meat from home for their festive menus.

The TV spot stars an absolute classic of the Christmas table: the Schinkli. The campaign is rounded off with a series of thematically appropriate advertisements and a recipe brochure containing menu suggestions for the time between the big feasts.

NZZ launches history magazine

The magazine NZZ Geschichte will be published for the first time in April 2015. It focuses on both international and Swiss history in all its various facets and its impact on our present.

The magazine will be the responsibility of Peer Teuwsen, head of new journalistic products at the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, and the distinguished journalist and historian Martin Beglinger, who will move from the magazine to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung on February 1, according to a statement on Tuesday.

In addition, an advisory board of renowned Swiss historians supports the magazine. They are Irène Herrmann, professor of transnational Swiss history at the University of Geneva, André Holenstein, professor of older Swiss history and comparative regional history at the University of Bern, and Tobias Straumann, titular professor of economic history at the University of Zurich. NZZ Geschichte is published every three months.

NZZ: Editorial Board Does Not Want a National Conservative Chief Either

Following the NZZ correspondents, the NZZ editors have also issued a warning in a letter to the board of directors against appointing an editor-in-chief with national-conservative views. 163 members of the editorial staff have signed the statement.

This is virtually identical to that of 63 correspondents on Monday (Werbewoche.ch reported). In the opinion of the editorial staff, a national conservative editor-in-chief would "mean the end of the culture of a liberal and cosmopolitan NZZ," according to the letter published on Tuesday (Link to the letter in PDF format). The editorial team had noted with the greatest concern that the board of directors of the NZZ media group had held talks with Markus Somm about Markus Spillmann's successor. Somm had said on Monday that he had held talks with the leadership of the NZZ media group, but that "after careful consideration" he had decided to continue as editor-in-chief and publisher of the Basler Zeitung (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Even after Markus Somm's cancellation, the NZZ editorial team is deeply concerned about the future of the NZZ. "Should the political direction in which a new editor-in-chief has apparently been sought be confirmed, we protest against these plans in the strongest possible terms," the statement reads.

Imprint criticizes NZZ management

The NZZ editors were supported in their protest by Impressum, the professional association of journalists. The sudden resignation of Spillmann was irritating, the association wrote in a statement. The fact that Somm had already been asked to succeed him suggests that Spillmann had been asked to resign. Imprint condemns the fact that the editorial staff was not consulted in the run-up to this departure and was not openly informed afterwards. The editorial team must now be consulted about the succession.

Imprint is also critical of the decision to close the printing plant in Schlieren. Having its own printing plant is crucial for the independence and responsiveness of the editorial teams. With such hasty decisions, the management from outside the industry is endangering the journalistic products. (SDA)

Maybaum Film combines slam poetry and image film

Maybaum Films shot a Slam portrait featuring Remo Zumstein for the building envelope company Wyder.

Many companies claim to be innovative and to try out new things. But only very few of them actually put this into practice. So it's all the nicer when the client, agency and production company then agree and actually break new ground together. The building envelope company Wyder, at home in Sins in the Oberfreiamt, decided to stay true to its philosophy in the production of its first corporate film. So the idea was born to produce a slam portrait instead of a classic image film.

//vimeo.com/114638209

From the pen of Bernese slam poet Remo Zumstein sprang the short story with wit and wit, with heart and feeling, and yet with the most important information about Immerwyder's activities. To recite the text, Zumstein then climbed on stage himself - in the presence of Wyder employees, customers and family.

The live images from the event were supplemented with shots from various construction sites. This is how poetry meets craftsmanship. The sweat of the spotlight on the sweat of the gas burners. And the viewer learns in words and pictures about the green soul of the company, about perfection in craftsmanship and the high demands on aesthetics, form and material, which are always implemented at ImmerWyder.

Responsible at Immerwyder: Max and Ursi Wyder. Responsible at Küttel Laubacher advertising agency: Daniel Küttel and Simon Huwiler. Responsible at Maybaum Film: Michel Alraun (producer), Michel Frutig (director), Lilith Verny (idea/concept), Stephan Huwyler (DoP), Daniel Wyss (post-production), Margrit Hänni (graphic design). Texted and spoken by Remo Zumstein.

Joiz Germany ends free TV operations

Low ratings and low advertising revenue: Joiz Deutschland plans to limit its operations to web and IPTV services in the future and has filed for restructuring in Berlin.

"Classic TV revenues have clearly fallen short of expectations," Alexander Mazzara, CEO of Joiz, said in a statement Tuesday. The channel, Mazzara said, does have an audience - its relevance on the web and in social media is correspondingly high. For example, Joiz Germany has over 200,000 frans on Facebook and is present in the German Twitter top 10. According to the Joiz CEO, this status among the young audience cannot be reflected in the AGF/GFK reach measurement. As a result, the reach that would be necessary for the classic marketing of a free TV station is missing. "Therefore, we unfortunately do not see any prospects for the free TV channel Joiz in the German free TV market in the medium term and would like to concentrate on the core media of our young target group with the offer on the web via IPTV and free digital distribution platforms." Joiz Germany began operations in summer 2013 (Werbewoche.ch reported).

Following a restructuring, in which as many of the 65 jobs as possible are to be retained, the station will be transformed in the next few months from a free TV station into a web and IPTV station offering that will be available exclusively online, via IPTV and free distribution platforms. As before, the offering will consist of daily, self-produced, interactive programs as well as series.

On Tuesday, Joiz GmbH filed an application for reorganization to continue the company in self-administration. The aim is therefore for the company to be continued and restructured by the management in cooperation with a trustee, not by an insolvency administrator. Only Joiz GmbH, which operates Joiz Germany, is affected by the restructuring. The companies Joiz AG, Joiz Schweiz AG and Joiz IP AG, which markets the technology as Joiz Global, are not affected. Last but not least: The year in Blick headlines

Twelve *Blick* headlines that made waves and caught people’s attention in 2014. Not, of course, because they were particularly relevant or important.

The old year is drawing to a close. 2014 offered so many truly earth-shattering events that the countless reviews that will soon be unleashed on us on all channels are probably suffering from an acute lack of space and time. The poor editors who have to decide whether cruelty 1 or horror 2 deserves more space. It's easier to deal with the trivialities that the online media bombard us with on a daily basis. Since they often have a modest news value, they have to be packaged with a lot of love. Blick (Online) is particularly good at this. To 55-year anniversary of the paper a short annual review of successful puns and good titles:

Patricia-Blanco
"A little money is a must" - another season of Dschungelcamp definitely too. Only 30 more sleeps.

Unterwasser-Alpen
The "Underwater Alps" almost got lost in the whole aircraft search (...). We want to officially welcome them here again! May they soon be registered on our maps.

navi-schuld
"First thunder in, then talk out" - 2014 was characterized by excavator, navigator and bridge dips.

Millie-Vanilli
A pun for the ages - so it becomes a minor matter that this "reality star" is probably unknown to most people. Or do you know the lady?

boot-ist-voll
A fitting reason to take the historically charged saying out of mothballs once again: Kim Kardashian's inflationary discussed rear...

Hinternet
...dominated the media in 2014 - especially the "Hinternet". The time for this pun is certainly not getting any riper.

ChihAUA
With his scooter faux pas, DJ Bobo opened the door for the memorable word creation "ChiAUA". Definitely the better choice than "DJ Boboli" or "René Au-Mann!".

Schwanen-Plage
"They stink and snap" - never before has a plague been summed up so charmingly in four words. Spot on!

TT-3155007-Rinderknecht-Quer
The then Miss Switzerland Dominque Rinderknecht took the chance and hosted the weather for the Tele-Züri anniversary. Blick saw room for improvement in her posture - and horizontal potential in her title setting.

TT-3186985-wicky-zicky
With the return of the Nati's success, the experts' quarrel has also subsided. The differences of opinion during the Slovenia game were well received: Zicky, who had actually been dismissed as an expert, is now allowed to spread permanent optimism as an expert again.

Erektorin
The "Erector" delivered a slick pun on her farewell. Blick used it ice-cold.

M38
The title of the year: "M38 runs a wolf for a female". Hopefully, the quadruped has found his female in the meantime. And made a wide berth around the canton of Valais in the search.
