Kachelmann wants 3.25 million euros

A lawsuit brought by television presenter Jörg Kachelmann against the German Bild newspaper (print and online) began on Wednesday at Cologne Regional Court. It is about financial compensation in the millions.

The subject of the lawsuit is the reporting on a rape trial against him. In 2011, Kachelmann was acquitted of the accusation of rape by the Mannheim Regional Court in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The meteorologist accuses Bild of a serious violation of his personal rights. Bild rejects his accusations as unfounded. Kachelmann, who appeared in court in person, is demanding monetary compensation totaling 2.2 million euros from the newspaper and its online edition. He has also taken legal action against the magazines Bunte and Focus. These proceedings
were postponed to another date on Wednesday. Kachelmann's total claims amount to 3.25 million euros.

His lawyer Ralf Höcker expects that he will obtain "the highest compensation ever claimed in Germany for violation of personal rights". The spokesman for the regional court, Christian Hoppe, said that the "sums of money awarded in the case law to date were below the amount that Mr. Kachelmann is demanding".

Injunction action fails

Kachelmann has already suffered a defeat in the dispute over the reporting of the trial: in 2013, the Federal Court of Justice (BGH) rejected an action for an injunction against the reporting of the online portal Bild.de in the last instance. The judges considered the public interest to be more important than Kachelmann's personal rights. Accordingly, the media may also report without restriction on intimate details that come up in public criminal proceedings. However, according to the ruling, the primacy of press law does not apply to so-called suspicion reporting prior to an indictment. (SDA)

Freitag launches truck design contest

For once, Freitag is also taking on the homogenization of mass-produced goods along the European transit route: designers, graphic artists, and vector artists—both current and emerging—are invited to design the side of a truck.

The contest is intended to combat monotony on the analog highway. "There are fewer and fewer one-truck operations, and our raw materials, truck tarps, are becoming more and more uniform and boring," writes the manufacturer of recycled one-of-a-kind bags in a statement. Vector creatives from around the world are consequently invited to design the two 40-square-meter side tarps of a truck. The winning tarpaulin will be mounted on a truck of the Swiss transport company Planzer and will serve for five years before Friday bag unicums will be cut out of it.

Unbenannt-3_40

The theme for the contest is free. The only thing to keep in mind is that everything in life has two sides - including the truck tarpaulin. So we're not just looking for a large-format truck tarpaulin design that everyone on the road will be looking for. The tarpaulin designers should also think ahead and think about the small things in the big things, as it says in the press release.

After all, the Friday Bag designers are supposed to be able to cut stunning one-of-a-kind bags out of the tarp with their stencils and knives one day, which everyone on the street will also be looking for.

An expert committee will select the 40 best plan designs from all rule-compliant entries. The three winners will be selected via online voting and crowned the winners of the Design-A-Truck Contest in the last week of May. In addition to the Freitag founders Daniel and Markus Freitag, the expert committee consists of a truck spotter, a bag designer, a Freitag product designer and the trucker who will drive the winning tarpaulin.

Last but not least: One, two and over

So much for «Do you get the joke?»: ZDF took decisive action against a planned party in Aarau. And it worked.

Specifically, it was about the 80s and 90s party series "Time of my Life" at the Aarau cultural venue Kiff. During the Christmas party, the team had the idea of organizing a special edition under the motto of the cult show "1, 2 or 3". As producer Raphael Schimmel explains to Radio Argovia, the idea was to revive the show with 80s and 90s questions, i.e. to play the games from the children's show in a party setting.

Picture: Kiff.ch

That actually sounds pretty funny. Or would have sounded funny. Because the Kiff team had done the math without ZDF. They got in touch by phone soon afterwards and canceled the party without further ado. It was a protected show - if they wanted to hold the party, they would have to license it. Which, according to Schimmel, would have been "a relatively expensive thing". On the Kiff website there is talk of a "horrendous amount".

The team was actually already aware that the show was protected before the short phone call. But: "To be honest, we didn't think that ZDF would go to the trouble of calling us to ban it." They did. But you could try. The party on February 28 will now take place under the usual name "Time of my Life".

Let's just hope that Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes don't call next and reclaim the title "Time of my Life". Otherwise the dance canton of Aargau will never be at peace. (hae)

M&C Saatchi: Poster campaign for Incarom

The relaunch of the Swiss brand Incarom continues. Starting this week, an out-of-home campaign by M&C Saatchi will feature two designs on billboards throughout Zurich.

The goal is to recall what is the uniqueness of Incarom. Indeed, drinking INCAROM gives energy and serenity at the same time thanks to its special blend of coffee and chicory. The two subjects "Pilot" and "Yeti" express this in a humorous way. The brand claim "Be Strong. Stay Calm. Drink Incarom" supports the image message to keep this "coolness" in every possible situation thanks to Incarom.

The billboard focuses on an urban target group and is visible on station billboards and on commuter trains, as well as on wild posters for night owls.

Agence Trio for Easyjet: take-off allowed

Trio's latest campaign shows the airline EasyJet in its best, most admirable light.

Tender cheeks in swimming trunks twitch in time to hot rhythms while the owners of these backsides relax in deckchairs. Positive and relaxed: the fresh images convey the attitude to life of the Easyjet generation. Posters, e-panels, TV and radio commercials in Switzerland and in the border regions of Germany and France encourage a wink. And awaken the desire to travel. But Trio remains at the agency. And on the ball for the next campaign.

Last but not least: A sharp turn

The new Corsa is supposed to save Opel. But first it attracts attention as a work of art in London.

The fifth-generation hopeful is set to become a blockbuster for the ailing Opel Group, as we recently saw in the delightfully competent SRF car program "Speedometer" learned. The Opel plant in Bochum was closed at the end of 2014 and 3,000 employees lost their jobs. To prevent the downturn from continuing unchecked, the small car produced since 1982 is now set to provide the urgently needed upturn.

In England, where Opel operates under the name Vauxhall, the advertising campaign for the new flagship has begun. Vauxhall commissioned British sculptor Alex Chinneck to create a work of art inspired by the new Corsa. Chinneck is a celebrity in England and made a name for himself last year with what appears to be a Floating house in Covent Garden to talk about himself.

At London's Southbank Centre, a piece of ripped-out road, including the Corsa, is now causing astonished looks. The curved asphalt holds without any visible help. And the car. The illusion works.

corsa-2

Of course, the piece of tar is supported by an internal steel structure, as the making-of video shows. To make the fake floor blend in with the real one, an exact replica of the original part to be replaced was even taken. Not bad, Mr. Specht. Now the car just has to sell as convincingly. (hae)

Five skills that we could unlearn in the future

Dependence on Smartphones and Other Devices: Swiss futurist Gerd Leonhard lists five everyday things we may soon forget how to do.

Today, we outsource many decisions by leaving them to our smartphones, for example when choosing a restaurant or taking a walk in a foreign city. The excessive use of technology and mobile devices that are packed with increasingly intelligent software and are always online can not only disempower us, but also make us dependent and, to a certain extent, digitally demented.

The smartphone shows us the way. Not only that. It also tells us where we can find a pizzeria nearby and how it has been rated, and what my "friends" think of it. We trust our "external brains" more and more, because we assume that this gigantic machine in the cloud is not wrong and is always right. The "wisdom of crowds" reinforces this belief. As a result, our smartphones are increasingly becoming "extensions of ourselves". Studies show that many people are so dependent on these little helpers that they react to their absence with physical and psychological discomfort.

In doing so, we are subjecting ourselves to a kind of digital feudalism in which we all end up serving the technology giants. As a result, we no longer really think for ourselves, we leave decisions to the omnipresent technology. In the process, we are slowly but surely forgetting, suppressing and even unlearning many everyday things that were unconscious standards before the mobile computer revolution. Not only that: our brain is plastic - when parts of it are no longer needed, their capabilities shrink.

Five skills we could soon lose

1. learning foreign languages

With the Skype Translate software or the Say Hi app, we can already talk to foreign speakers in our native language. What we say is translated in real time and reaches the recipient in their own language. In the future, we will be able to let our cell phones do the talking when we are on a date or in a restaurant, for example.

1108586

2. orient ourselves in the room

In the past, you had to orient yourself on a printed map. Buildings or points on the horizon were helpful. This gave us a sense of where we were. Many people now find it difficult to find their way around a city, for example, or to understand a non-digital street map. This is because they have become accustomed to GPS (satellite positioning) and interactive Internet maps on their cell phones. They are in danger of losing their sense of direction.

237481018_1

3. traveling as an explorer

People used to just set off once and then see how far they got and where they ended up on their journey. Tempi passati: modern people leave almost nothing to chance and rely on YouTube, Tripadvisor, Google Maps, Waze and Facebook. Apps and maps provide us with suggestions for places of interest, hotels and restaurants and their ratings by other travelers. The result: an often misleading microcosm built from social media and their algorithms - data triumphs over intuition.

198594230

4. happen to read something interesting

We used to flick through a newspaper or a magazine - today, for people under 30 (the "digital natives"), their Facebook newsfeed is more important than any other medium, and only the news of my friends and my likes - and their sponsors - appear there.

237481018_0

5. be able to write beautifully

Receiving a handwritten letter used to be considered normal. We will soon have to say goodbye to this, as we are heading towards a visual and oral society. We no longer need to write anything by hand; the computer listens to us and follows our verbal instructions. And then there are the gestures we use to control our devices. Why learn to write if you don't need it anyway?

"Die Brocki-Profis": SRF launches junk show

The new SRF show «Die Brocki-Profis» is all about thrift stores, secondhand items, and potential rarities.

Whether genuine antiques or everyday objects that are waiting for a second use: undiscovered treasures lie dormant in many Swiss cellars, barns or attics. The three Brocki professionals Sabine Reusser, Bernhard Jost and Patrick Schaerz try to find them. The docusoap starts on Sunday, March 15, 2015 at 6.15 pm on SRF 1.

Unbenannt-7_62

The new docusoap shows the three of them searching for antiques they thought were lost, negotiating with collectors and sellers and clearing out attics and cellars with their teams. They usually have to explain to their customers that their supposed treasure is actually worth nothing. However, they also help people to correctly assess the value of their inheritance. The experts give the public tips on how to distinguish between trash and treasure, and research whether an unusually old item might actually be something valuable.

Successful Swiss film "The Circle" sold to Netflix

The hit Swiss film «Der Kreis» was sold to Netflix North America on Tuesday for a six-figure sum.

The success story of this Swiss film began with its world premiere and two awards at the 2014 Berlinale. This was followed by screenings at over 100 festivals, 13 international awards and sales in 18 countries on 4 continents.

The Swiss feature film "The Circle", directed by Stefan Haupt and produced by Contrast Film Zurich, is one highlight after another. It has just become one of the first Swiss films to be sold to the US streaming service Netflix for a six-figure sum (source: Swiss Films). The docudrama about the legendary Zurich homosexual organization of the same name will therefore be available on the VOD platform in the USA and Canada from spring 2015.

A record at the start

"The Circle" premiered in February 2014 in the Panorama section of the 64th Berlinale. It was the first film in the history of the Berlinale to win both the Teddy Award, the world's most important prize for gay and lesbian films, and the Audience Award. This is the first time ever that the audience award of the Berlin Film Festival has been brought to Switzerland.

"The Circle" went on to become the biggest Swiss festival and sales success of 2014. This was followed by requests from film festivals worldwide - last week the Swiss film was screened at its 100th festival. The number of international film awards the film has received along the way is also high - almost as many jury awards as audience awards. In addition, 18 international distributors on four continents have acquired the exploitation rights for the Swiss film to date.

Oscars and Golden Globes

In fall 2014, the Federal Office of Culture (FOC) included "The Circle" as an official Swiss contribution in the Race for the Oscar for "Best Foreign Language Film". Although it was not enough for an Oscar nomination, the film achieved a result with rare value: "The Circle" managed to convince the Hollywood Foreign Press Association HFPA and qualify for the to qualify for the Golden Globesthe second most important award in the film industry. No other Swiss film has achieved this in the last 20 years. The last one to make it this far was the Swiss co-produced film "Trois Couleurs: Rouge" by Polish old master Krzysztof Kieslowski in 1994 (source: Swiss Films).

"The Circle" is currently being shown simultaneously at film festivals in Spain, Australia and France. It is also currently being shown in cinemas in the USA (Wolfe Releasing), Denmark (Reel Pictures), France (Outplay, theatrical release: March 4) and Thailand (Bioscope). The film will be available on DVD in Switzerland from March 12 (Ascot-Elite) and as a stream on Netflix later in the spring.
