Let's jazz!

Shortly before the winter break, Idée-VfW invites members, guests, and sponsors to its traditional jazz bar.

Shortly before the winter break, the Idée-VfW invites members, guests and sponsors to the traditional jazz bar. this time, the music event no longer took place in the "Herb", but in the bistro of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, which had been at the top of the Idée board's wish list for some time. The active support of Marianne Läderach and publishing director Tobias Trevisan made the change possible, with the NZZ also providing the food, and a good eighty guests took the opportunity to escape the cold season for a short time with singer Marion Denzler (large picture) and her quartet - the program included gentle bossanovas and hot Latin sounds. There were also visitors from other industry associations: Toni Vetterli, Head of Marketing at the Swiss Press Association, Stephanie Hugentobler, President of the copywriting association Script, and ASW Managing Director Peter Grob were in the audience. Publimag advertising manager Christian Rufener, who supported the Idée event with a substantial contribution towards the costs of the aperitif, took the opportunity to invite team colleagues and customers to the Jazz Bistro; and sponsor Beat Sulzer from Clear Channel Plakanda sent a delegation. The Flash bike couriers Benno Meier, Andrea Kocher and Phili Poznalski, who pedal their hearts out for the Zurich advertising agencies under their stage names Benno, Cookie and Pozzi, also got their money's worth.
Last but not least, in addition to plenty of Prosecco and a fine Riz Casimir, the guests also easily devoured the two liters of digestif in the form of cognac and grappa, which were offered by Leos Gerteis from NJP Tonstudio and bon-gusto.kommunikation.
Beat Fritsch, in his role as President of Idée - Association for Advertising Communication, welcomed guests to the annual Idée Jazz Bar at the Bistro on Falkenstrasse last week. The event, which is popular with members and sponsors alike, took place at the NZZ for the first time this year. An excellent location, by the way, and not just for an evening of jazz.

Marketer Espace Pub Director Henri Robyr resigns.

Marketer Espace Pub director Henri Robyr resigns When Edipresse ventured to launch a major daily newspaper in French-speaking Switzerland in 1991, Publicitas also broke new ground: a separate branch was created for the advertising marketing of the Nouveau Quotidien (NQ). Espace Pub was the first P subsidiary to devote itself entirely to the sale of a single title. The fathers of Espace Pub were Hans Peter Rohner, Jean-Pierre Béguin and Henri Robyr, who worked as advertising director until 1995. The establishment of Espace Pub was one of the highlights of a career that will come to an end on New Year's Day. After 41 years in the service of the P, Henri Robyr retires. He joined the Bern branch in 1963 in the administration and promotion department. He was only briefly disloyal to the company from 1998 to 2000, during which time he was head of advertising sales at the Basler Zeitung, which is 37 percent owned by P's parent company PubliGroupe. He then returned to French-speaking Switzerland and took over as director of Espace Pub, which has been working for NQ's successor Le Temps since 1998.
Robyr will hand over this position to Marianna Di Rocco at the beginning of January. She has also been working for Espace Pub for a long time. She started in 1993 as the person responsible for the French-speaking Swiss market and events. Since the merger of NQ and Journal de Genève to form Le Temps, she has been Head of Sales. Her successor in this role will be Julien-V.-A. Vogel, who joined the Espace Pub team in April.

The filler without limits

Networks Krieg, Schlupp, Springer & Jacoby created a prime example for Lamy of how international cooperation should work.

Networks Krieg, Schlupp, Springer & Jacoby created a prime example for Lamy of how international cooperation should work.Lamy is one of the leading writing instrument brands, whose innovative quality products occupy a special position worldwide. For many years, Lamy propagated the "pleasure of writing". Since 2002, Springer & Jacoby Germany has been responsible for repositioning the brand as a "pen enthusiast". The new brand campaign was recently launched with Thomas Löw as Managing Director - and still is, as after his move to Switzerland, the client Lamy was also persuaded to assign the Europe-wide lead for all communications to Switzerland.
The main focus is initially on the German market, although the international orientation of the brand has already been taken into account in the campaign development. In both Switzerland and Spain, the respective S&J partners are working on the development of a specific market entry campaign based on the new basic strategy.
Everyone finds their Lamy In the campaign, different people have their say, each of whom has found "their Lamy". From students to lawyers. These people not only have their own Lamy, they also have their own mind. Both are expressed in the campaign's unusual visual language.
The campaign consists of six advertising motifs that can be seen in German titles such as Spiegel, Stern, Max and Art. And from spring 2005 also in Switzerland.
For Springer & Jacoby International, this account is another important step towards Europe. And for Krieg, Schlupp, Springer & Jacoby in Zurich, it is a veritable prime example of how international cooperation should work: Thomas Löw is the Managing Director for the entire account and leads both the creative and consultancy teams in Germany from Switzerland. He also has the lead in Spain. And, of course, also in Switzerland. Further specific country market entries are currently in preparation.
The Swiss campaign for Lamy - developed by the Swiss creative team - is currently in the consultation phase and will be on display from March 2005.
Internationally sophisticated campaign: own Lamy, own head.

A proud dozen offers for Ruoss

Radio: Potential buyers had until the end of November to submit their bids for Radio Sunshine and its marketing company.

Radio Potential interested parties had until the end of November to submit their offers for Radio Sunshine and its marketing company, and majority owner Markus Ruoss and his trustee received "a good dozen offers" in total. "I haven't even seen them yet," laughs Ruoss. He does not want to disclose details or names. He will only discuss whether and with which interested parties he wants to enter into negotiations in mid-December, after a stay in the USA.rumors from the radio scene that Ruoss does not want to sell, but simply wants to sound out the value of his radio, he counters by referring to his letter of November 3, 2003. Many people had missed the fact that he was not only looking for buyers at the time, but also for potential new partners, he says. In fact, the letter literally states: "Anyone who is seriously interested in contributing to and participating in the future of Radio Sunshine, in whatever form of cooperation, should write to ..."

The crucial question in advertising statistics

Advertising Expenditure Statistics There is no end in sight to this rift: Since the spring, WEMF’s Advertising Index Switzerland (AIS) has been vying for a clientele that Media Focus had previously served exclusively for years.

Advertising expenditure statistics There is no end in sight to this schism: since the spring, Wemf's Advertising Index Switzerland (AIS) has been vying for a clientele that Media Focus previously served on its own for years. "We set up the AIS because Media Focus supplied poor data for decades," Wemf Director René Schmutz told Werbewoche, attacking the competitor. Some agree with him. Agencies such as Mediaschneider and advertising clients such as Coop consider the AIS data to be more reliable. But with the SWA, Media Focus has an important supporter behind it.
SWA Director Jürg Siegrist does not want to shake Media Focus' status as preferred supplier, as he tells Werbewoche. Nevertheless, the relationship is not unproblematic. The market researcher has promised the association an advisory board and contracts with the data suppliers. Neither of these have yet come to fruition. The industry assesses the advantages and disadvantages of Media Focus and AIS on pages 20/21.

Among other things, it uses skateboards and breakdancing and the rapping cooking world champion Ivo Adam to mobilize against obesity, unhealthy eating and lack of exercise. A woman from Lucerne in Munich

Theater For the 2004–2005 season, the Münchner Kammerspiele commissioned the Lucerne-based agency Velvet to create its branding campaign.

Theater For the 04/05 season, the Münchner Kammerspiele commissioned the Lucerne agency Velvet with the image campaign, which was intended to communicate the season's theme "The Ten Commandments" as well as the individual play titles and provoke controversial public discussions. Against the backdrop of the "new flashpoints and religious wars", this is also a search for "our identity", says artistic director Frank Baumbauer. To this end, Velvet creatives have alienated the faces of politicians, artists and authors with masks and placed them opposite a commandment to unmask them in their roles and question the Christian moral principles in today's society.

"Thanks to AIS, Media Focus also moved".

Tobias Trevisan, publishing director at NZZ, provides data to AIS, but also uses statistics from Media Focus (MF).

Tobias Trevisan, NZZ Publishing Director, supplies AIS with data, but also uses statistics from Media Focus (MF).WW You are a user of advertising statistics data and will soon be switching from MF to AIS. Why?Tobias Trevisan We used both systems in 2004 and realized that AIS has advantages: It is significantly cheaper, and the data is more suitable for our purposes, harder.
We wanted to test the AIS first, and AIS had no historical data. This deficiency will be remedied in 2005; we only need historical data going back two years.
You are also a data supplier, you provide AIS with the NZZ volume and the supplement data. What do you receive in return?
We are already receiving remuneration for 2004, the second year of data delivery. This covers our expenses for the data delivery. However, we paid the regular price for the AIS data we received, which was higher than the remuneration. The idea of AIS, however, is that at some point the remuneration for the data delivery is equal to the costs for the data procurement. MF is different: MF measures the newspaper pages itself. But now he has asked us whether we can also supply him with the insert data ...
But publishers don't do that.
Why are you boycotting MF?
We are not boycotting MF. MF wanted to receive the insert data free of charge, but other data suppliers such as Publisuisse can obtain the MF data free of charge in return. That is why we also asked MF for something in return. However, we have not yet received a reply.
You are also Chairman of the Wemf Board of Directors and therefore the supreme head of the AIS: what is your assessment of the first year of the AIS? The AIS was born out of dissatisfaction with MF in terms of data scope, data quality, delivery speed and price. From our point of view, AIS is superior to MF: it is faster, more accurate and cheaper. In addition, the new situation meant that MF was also on the move. It finally began to respond to the needs of data users. It became faster and now checks, for example, whether it also wants to show inserts.
The AIS also caused unrest among clients because it introduced a second currency - and not uniformly across all media.
This is a disadvantage, but I don't consider it as important in view of the advantages mentioned above. Every data user is free to choose their own statistics provider.
The AIS, which is not profit-oriented, grants the data providers an initial remuneration. Does that mean it is already self-supporting?
I can't comment on this at the moment because we don't have the annual financial statements yet.
AIS data for VSW advertising site statisticsWemf and PubliGroupe have decided to feed the VSW statistics with AIS data in future. This is confirmed by Tobias Trevisan. The changeover is planned for the beginning of 2005. "This will create a uniform database and eliminate the need for double entry," says Trevisan. However, this will not lead to a currency break. Trevisan: "The guidelines regarding the data reported by publishers for the compilation of VSW statistics correspond to those of the AIS." (mk)
Tobias Trevisan, NZZ publishing director and top AIS boss: "We are not boycotting MF."

Coca-Cola already considers product placement to be more effective than traditional commercials.

"Up to 150 million is possible"

Media analyst Chris Burger of Bank Vontobel on the (remaining) price of 20 Minuten.

Media analyst Chris Burger from Bank Vontobel on the (residual) price of 20 Minuten.WW Mr. Burger, is a piecemeal takeover like that of 20 Minuten (Schweiz) AG, where the tranche prices are performance-
are also common in other industries?
Chris Burger Absolutely. A current example is Jelmoli's purchase of the real estate company Tivona. Like Tamedia with 20 Minuten, Jelmoli is gradually investing in future potential that is difficult to assess, specifically in planned construction projects. The difference between the purchase price offered and the purchase price demanded is correspondingly large.
Tamedia is said to have offered CHF 100 million for the remaining 50.5 percent of 20 Minuten, but Schibsted demanded CHF 150 million.
On the basis of the available and estimated company data, I consider these amounts and the difference between them to be entirely possible.
Which party would benefit more from an early conclusion of the takeover agreement concluded in March 2003? Tamedia would probably like to conclude the
overall package and thus gain control of the commuter newspaper. Strategically, this makes sense because it would then have a free hand for its further development and any cooperations. And financially, because 20 Minuten could then be fully consolidated and improve its income statement.
In August, you forecast an operating profit of CHF 50 million for Tamedia in 2004. Is that enough for such a major investment?
The decisive factor here is not the course of business, but the amount of cash and cash equivalents and the balance sheet ratios. These are excellent at Tamedia, so such a deal would not be a problem.

Top, the bet is on

Print Media McCann Erickson firmly believes that *Das Magazin* will be the best advertising medium in Zurich, Basel, and Bern.

Print media McCann Erickson firmly believes that Das Magazin will be the best advertising medium in Zurich, Basel and Berne. From the beginning of 2005, Das Magazin will be included in the Tages-Anzeiger, the Basler Zeitung and the Berner Zeitung BZ every Saturday. However, a special Wemf study will not be able to show the new readership figures until the end of 2005. Nevertheless, Das Magazin is already convinced that it will achieve the highest reach, the lowest 1000-reader price and 730000 readers in the economic areas of Zurich, Basel and Berne. On this basis, McCann Erickson has designed a new advertising campaign: The publisher and editors of Das Magazin are taking bets that Wemf will confirm the new readership data. Publisher Hans Heinrich Coninx, for example, is betting on his favorite fly. Author Martin Suter bets on a business class ticket, colleague Max Küng on his sneaker collection. The editor-in-chief is also placing a wager: Res Strehle is betting on his best suit that Das Magazin will reach 730000 readers.
"What I like about this story is that not only the commercial managers in the publishing house, but also the people in the re
The magazine's editors have gladly agreed to take part in these bets and thus back their product," says CD Peter Rettinghausen at McCann Erickson. Anyone who doesn't believe in the magazine's new figures can bid against it. Of course, it was easy for all the protagonists to back their product with "a sure win on this bet".
name including a valuable gadget.
In recent years, Tamedia has only advertised the Tages-Anzeiger as part of an umbrella brand strategy. In the past, individual properties such as Alpha or the classifieds market were also publicized with their own campaigns. The last advertising for Das Magazin was managed by Ruedi Wyler for a long time. He is fondly remembered for his "thought-provoking" heads. Wyler, who advertised "very successfully" for Das Magazin, according to advertising manager Dominique von Albertini at Tamedia, ultimately lost the budget as a result of this umbrella brand strategy.
In these subjects for the Tages-Anzeiger, Weber Hodel Schmid first worked with headlines. The current and still ongoing campaign with the claim "Wir bleiben dran" (We're staying tuned) comes from the Jung von Matt/Limmat agency.
A comeback of individual advertising for Das Magazin has become inevitable because the Zurich product now has a national focus, which will also be reflected in the editorial environment.
The campaign will start at the end of November on double and 1/1 pages in the advertising trade press, in daily newspapers and in the magazine.
National focusAccording to its self-definition, Das Magazin is "free of compulsory material, but always with its finger on the pulse of the times and creating topicality itself". It reports on people, developments and events from all areas of knowledge. The magazine is "dedicated to sophisticated journalism and high quality
Committed to photography".
In 1988, the Tages-Anzeiger magazine was renamed Das Magazin and separated from the TA editorial team. At the same time as this development, the magazine was also added to the Berner Zeitung for the first time.
From January 2005, Das Magazin will be published nationwide as a supplement to the Basler Zeitung, Berner Zeitung and Solothurner Tagblatt newspapers. The publishers set up an editorial advisory board for this purpose. The print run of the supplement, which is aimed at an "urban readership", increases from around 280,000 to 530,000 copies. The number of readers will rise to 700,000. Marketing will continue to be managed by Fridolin Holdener, Head of Advertising at the Tages-Anzeiger.
The magazine will have a "national focus" under the leadership of Editor-in-Chief Res Strehle in order to achieve a wider geographical distribution.
Wetten, dass ... In McCann Erickson's campaign for the magazine's larger presence, the publisher and editorial team are placing valuable bets on high readership figures.
Das Magazin - a magazine for people with a little more brains. This is how Ruedi Wyler successfully promoted Das Magazin for years.
