Last but not least: The paper tiger and innovation

Our Swiss public television broadcaster doesn't have it easy. Everything is changing—society, technology, the audience, expectations, and values. But now SF has struck back and laid out its vision in a new 60-page mission statement.

It's not easy for our public Swiss television. The legal requirement of public service has always been a heavy burden. And because everyone understands it differently, people are firing from every corner. And now we have social and technological change on top of that. And globalization. And the new RTVG. It's understandable that poor television reacts like a tiger in a cage when it feels cornered. It fights back - and its claws are the words. The new mission statement was a respectable 60 pages thick. "The New Suffering Image" was the title of Facts right away and summed up that a lot of paper should put SF employees on the right track. Out came, for example, the values "independence, fairness, innovation, reliability, closeness to the audience." And sentences like: "We are at the service of the public. You realize right away that 40 personalities from politics, culture and business sat down for three days in the Hotel Feusisberg and gave "a lot of impetus.
The "What we do" section also makes particularly interesting reading. "We are not guided by what is technically feasible," it says, "but are guided by the needs of the audience. What is explosive here is that what the viewers want is also written into the mission statement. "They want us to tailor our programming more closely to their individual needs. They want to be able to use it anytime, anywhere." Suspicious how that sounds like a free pass on what's technically possible. But just: The buck stops with the audience, and SF is merely the devoted servant.

Aargauer Woche and LIZ Limmat Zeitung have to go tabloid

Lifting in Aargau and Limmattal: AZ Wochenzeitung AG and Limmattaler Tagblatt AG - both companies of the AZ Medien Group - are planning a redesign of the free newspapers Aargauer Woche and LIZ Limmat Zeitung.

Lifting in Aargau and ZüriWest: AZ Wochenzeitung AG and Limmattaler Tagblatt AG - both companies of the AZ Medien Group - are planning a redesign of the free newspapers Aargauer Woche and LIZ Limmat Zeitung. The reason: The two titles are to appear in a new tabloid format and differentiate themselves even more clearly from the subscribed daily newspapers Aargauer Zeitung and Limmattaler Tagblatt in terms of content. On Thursday, March 1, 2007, the time has come. The free titles will now be spread along the shopping and commuter routes of the A1. The regional split into the eastern and western parts of the canton of Aargau and the Limmat valley in Zurich will remain as before, the AZ Medien Group announced on Thursday.
The Wettinger Post will also be swallowed. However, it will be an important part of the Baden/Wettingen/Brugg regional newspaper and will be integrated as the official publication of the municipality of Wettingen. The Anzeiger der Region Aarau/Zofingen will feature the city of Aarau with its official advertisements, it adds. The LIZ Limmat Zeitung will now appear as the Anzeiger for the Limmattal.
From one make two In Lenzburg, the situation from March 2007 will be such that the readership will now receive two instead of one advertiser. This is because the Aargauer Woche, which was previously integrated into the Lenzburg Bezirksanzeiger, no longer fits into the broadsheet with its tabloid format.

3+ gains in primetime

The increase in market share for the young Swiss television channel 3+ is said to be steady; however, according to Swiss Television, this channel is not allowed to call itself «young Swiss television.».

There has been a steady increase in the market share of the young Swiss television channel 3+, which in the opinion of Swiss television cannot call itself "young Swiss television". In October, the new private channel achieved an average market share of 2.3 percent in prime time, thereby increasing its share in the 15-49 advertising-relevant target group by almost 10 percent. According to 3+, it is the only private channel apart from Super RTL that was able to further increase its market share in October. It is good that the in-house production "Superstar" was on, as it contributed significantly to the good result. However, feature films and the CSI series were also well received by the audience. That's why there's now more of it: CSI will now be broadcast daily as a double episode in the early evening program.
