Last but not least: Newspapers with lethal effect

History is full of examples in which false news reports have served as a trigger or pretext for war. False reports announcing the deaths of prominent figures have always been a favorite.

History is not lacking in examples where untrue press reports have served as a trigger or pretext for war. False reports announcing the death of celebrities have always been popular. Recently, the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel fell for one and exclusively reported the sleeping pill suicide of pregnant actress Birge Schade. Schade could be seen at the end of October in the ZDF comedy "Krieg der Frauen" as a convinced full-time mom. Then it went blow by blow. The news agency AFP picked up the report and sent it over the ticker. 34 minutes later, however, the agency withdrew the report, as the Tagesspiegel report had turned out to be a hoax. According to her agency, the actress is in good health.
Apparently, the misinformation originated from a fake e-mail that had been circulated under the name of Schade's art publishing agency. The newspaper had omitted to have the report confirmed. The macabre report had seemed credible to them.
The correction also appeared in the Bild newspaper, among others. The Internet newspaper Netzeitung took the message from this. But the net newspaper also put Ms. Schade back to work - it let her age prematurely. The 1969 born is namely only 37 and not, as the net newspaper reported, 41 years old.

Last but not least: Tastes of the night

As is well known, there is no accounting for taste. In prudish India, for example, a TV commercial for condoms with different flavors is currently stirring up emotions rather than a desire to buy. And the censorship authorities there are having to deal with the question of what actually constitutes good taste. However, the issue is not the strawberry, chocolate or banana flavor of the condoms, but the accusation that the campaign is tasteless. The campaign is currently running with the slogan "What's your flavor of the night?" only after 11 p.m. because the censorship authorities have stopped broadcasting it during the day.

The head of the Indian Censor Board, former Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore, considers the advertisement obscene. A representative of the condom manufacturer countered that it was not a campaign for oral sex, but that the campaign was intended to appeal to couples who find the latex smell of the condoms repulsive. The state television had approved the broadcast of the commercials, but now the advertising council announced that it would review the advertising again.

The Indian government itself is promoting the use of condoms to curb HIV and AIDS. After all, India is not only the most populous country in the world after China, with over 1.1 billion inhabitants, and has recorded the largest absolute population growth. It also holds a sad world record: according to the United Nations, 5.7 million people in India are infected with HIV or have AIDS.
