Last but not least: Action for less skin

The young EVP apparently wants a meek and docile election campaign. No sooner have we finally gotten a glimpse of a different side of the young National Council candidates than the evangelicals come along and cover it all up again.

The young EPP seems to be hoping for a lamblike election campaign. No sooner have we finally seen a different side of the young National Council candidates than the evangelists go and cover everything up again. In a cloak-and-dagger operation, eager party activists taped up one of the Migros lingerie posters featuring scantily clad representatives of the young parties at Zurich main station and one at Winterthur station. They had made the newly minted photo models - none of them anorexia patients yet, none of them in a relationship with a guy like Pete Doherty - extra matching dresses. Of course, they too simply want to draw attention to their election efforts, sensitize people to sexist advertising and admonish Migros for its commitment. We get it, but we still won't be blinded by it. In our preparations for the election, we are relying entirely on inner values and deeply human instincts. That's why we chose Mirjam Arnold (Migros model no. 16,325) from the Young CVP. She looks good and wears sensible underwear. No one understands how accumulating, deciding by universal suffrage and voting for the EPP works anyway.

New study on the importance of live communication

A study provides new findings on the importance of communication measures in Swiss companies. As the «Uniplan Live Trends 2007» study—conducted in cooperation with the Chair of Marketing and Business Management at the University of Basel’s Scientific Center—finds, the emphasis in Switzerland is also shifting increasingly from traditional advertising toward direct communication channels such as the Internet, public relations, and events.

A study provides new results on the weighting of communication measures in Swiss companies. As the study "Uniplan Live Trends 2007", conducted in cooperation with the Chair of Marketing and Corporate Management at the Scientific Center of the University of Basel, shows, the importance of traditional advertising is increasingly shifting towards direct communication channels such as the Internet, public relations and events. In the survey, 295 marketing and communication managers from leading Swiss companies, 35 percent of whom were at management level, provided information on trends and developments in live communication at trade fairs and events. 295 marketing managers surveyed use live communication tools such as trade fairs and events within the customer relationship cycle, particularly when it comes to building a relationship of trust with their customers, retaining them or differentiating themselves from the competition. According to the managers, brands that use live communication also gain an unmistakable brand profile and thus differentiate themselves from the competition. Soft factors such as people, brand and product are key to differentiation. "Forward-thinking companies therefore invest in their staff and in trade fair and event communication that supports the core messages," advises Uniplan Managing Director Guido Maurer, based on the survey results. However, far too little importance is currently attached to the preparation and follow-up of events, and above all to measuring the success of live communication, he continued.
The results of the study can be requested at [email protected].

Effects of media agreement on advertising windows still open

On Thursday, Switzerland and the EU signed the Media 2007 Agreement. For it to definitively enter into force, it will have implications for the advertising slots of foreign broadcasters in Switzerland. It remains to be seen whether the necessary changes will be implemented.

On Thursday, Switzerland and the EU signed the Media 2007 Agreement. In order for it to enter into force definitively, it will have an impact on the advertising windows of foreign broadcasters in Switzerland. It remains to be seen whether the necessary changes will be implemented. Thanks to the agreement, Swiss filmmakers can participate fully in the new EU film promotion program Media 2007. The program has a total budget of 755 million euros.
However, participation in the program is subject to the condition that Switzerland applies a further provision of the EU "Television without Frontiers" Directive from November 2009. This means that advertising windows of foreign broadcasters aimed at a Swiss audience would no longer be subject to Swiss law, but to the national regulations of the broadcaster's country of origin.
This concerns, for example, the authorization of alcohol or political and religious advertising, which requires an amendment to the Swiss Radio and Television Act (RTVA) by Parliament.
It remains to be seen whether foreign broadcasters will actually receive different framework conditions in the foreseeable future. "The bill must first go to parliament," said Bakom spokesperson Caroline Sauser when asked by Werbewoche. She assumes that the matter will be dealt with in the winter or spring session at the latest. "If parliament says yes, the ball is in Bakom's court," says Sauser. The new RTVA, which came into force in April, would then have to be amended accordingly - after which it would come before Parliament again. "It is difficult to predict when the amended provisions could come into force," said the Bakom spokesperson.

At your own risk

René Worni on media products that deserve warning labels. Given the alarming impact that SVP propaganda is currently having, media products should be accompanied by warning labels, he writes.

René Worni on media products that deserve warnings.
With the black sheep, the symbol of SVP party politics, the nation is currently receiving a lot of attention in the international press. According to a media review in the NZZ, the German Financial Times writes of a "new wave of xenophobic propaganda". For the Independent, Switzerland is "Europe's heart of darkness", while Der Spiegel reports on the "all-out hacker", referring to Blocher. "We have lots of requests from children who want to cut out the sheep," Newsweek quotes an SVP spokesperson, the saddest sentence one has read in a media outlet for a long time. The party itself made the front page of the New York Times after the preliminary highlight of this election fall, the "hot" Saturday recently in Bern. "10 to 10" took the pulse of some New York passers-by and supplied the good parlors with statements that showed sheer incomprehension.
Who would have thought it: the flagship democracy and cradle of multicultural coexistence is seen by the international media as a country full of xenophobia and racial hatred. Hardly anyone in the country seems to be bothered by this.
On the contrary: local media are seizing the moment. With Blocher-TV, the publisher of Schaffhauser Nachrichten has landed a coup for his Schaffhausen television station. No advertising campaign could have made the station so popular. The publisher of Südostschweiz, who had once got rid of the Bündner Tagblatt from the SVP when he took it over, is also making clever use of the Minister of Justice's brilliance for his Tele Südostschweiz.
In view of the alarming (international) impact that SVP propaganda is currently having, media should be provided with prophylactic warnings. What is common practice in the tobacco industry with warnings on cigarette packets or in the sex industry with barriers to pornography on the internet should also apply to media products with political advertising: Consume at your own risk - the content may be racially discriminatory and xenophobic.

Big party for the streetcar

). As a final attraction, a "congratulations streetcar" has now also started its journey through Zurich. "I wanted there to be something left over from the party," says Manu Wüst. On the congratulatory streetcar, hundreds of passers-by and celebrities from Federal Councillor Moritz Leuenberger to Alexander Pereira were able to write their good wishes on a film that has now been stuck to the body of a streetcar train. This will be circulating until October 13 during the day in the Bellevue, Limmatquai and Bahnhofstrasse districts and is free of charge for all passengers. Later on, the special streetcar will run as a scheduled vehicle on lines 15 and 8 on a monthly basis.

Swiss Adex shows unchanged click prices for Google advertising

On average, companies are currently paying 1.89 francs per click for Google AdWords campaigns. In contrast, the number of companies using AdWords in their campaigns has increased.

Click prices for Google AdWords campaigns remained stable in September. On average, companies are currently paying CHF 1.89 per click, 1 cent less than in August. This is shown by the September figures from Angelink yourposition's Swiss Adex. In contrast, the number of companies using AdWords in campaigns has risen: In August, 15 companies were present with an ad per search query on Google. In September, as many as 17 different companies ran Google advertising per search query. Dating agencies saw the biggest increase, followed by the tourism and healthcare sectors. Insurance companies remained passive. Although click prices have not risen as significantly in any other sector, the number of advertising spaces booked in this area remains modest compared to the previous year.

Cat in bottle

Perfume Wirz has developed a campaign for Jaguar perfume from Zurich, which will be seen worldwide. It is therefore to work only with images.

Perfume Wirz has developed a campaign for Jaguar perfume from Zurich that will be seen worldwide.
Jaguar has not only been present in Formula 1 since 2000 with an attractive diversification for the brand with the elegant cat. Fans of the English car brand have also been able to show their allegiance to the brand for some time now with appropriately styled golf equipment, a letter opener with a Jaguar handle, red and green ties, retro cufflinks, watches or a classy money clip. Relatively new, however, is a line of perfumes with the emblem of Jaguar. However, the fragrances with the speedy cat in the logo do not smell like motor oil and were not developed at Jaguar's parent company in England. Art & Fragrance is the name of the company in Zollikerberg, which acquired the license of this noble brand for the production of a perfume in 2002 and since then has marketed the perfumes for Jaguar worldwide from Switzerland.
Now Wirz Werbung has won Art & Frangrance as a new client in a competitive presentation and developed a campaign that will be seen worldwide these days. With the visual concept "Projections" a bracket has been created that on the one hand holds the entire Jaguar line together, but on the other hand "gives the individual fragrances so much freedom that they can develop independently within the line," according to Irene Müller as Head of Marketing at Art & Fragrance.
For CD Matthias Freuler at Wirz, the campaign should work only with images and without text so that it can be used worldwide. For the subjects, the company looked for creative ways to present a fragrance visually. The solution was found in graceful conundrums, which bring together two levels in one image and thus allow the actually invisible fragrance to emerge in the viewer's imagination. To refer to the Jaguar reference brand, elements of sporty cars can also be made out in the conundrum images if one looks closely.
The pictures were taken by the well-known Swedish photographer Ola Bergengren. In order to be able to present the campaign internationally, Matthias Freuler at Wirz also made sure that as little skin as possible is shown in the ads. This should enable them to be shown in the Arab world as well as in Asia. All in all, the creative team at Wirz felt that this campaign was more about design than about developing ideas.
Your new customer Art & Fragrance is a successful niche player in the creation, development, marketing and worldwide distribution of perfumes and cosmetics. The company is responsible for all development steps in perfume production. The line also includes Alain Delon, Parfums Grès or Ultrasun. Art & Fragrance was founded in 2000 by Silvio Denz as "Interparfums Holding" with headquarters in Zollikerberg near Zurich. From 1980 to 2000, the London-based entrepreneur was the owner of Alrodo AG, which he built up into the largest perfumery chain in Switzerland until its sale to the French group Marionnaud.

A Frenchman goes for style

Peugeot Euro RSCG is entering the coming winter season with the world's first 4007 4x4. The first off-roader from Peugeot thus experiences its baptism of fire in the Swiss media.

Peugeot Euro RSCG enters the upcoming winter season with the world's first 4007 4×4.
The first off-roader from Peugeot experiences its baptism of fire in the media in Switzerland. Here, Euro RSCG is the first agency to advertise this world first. Euro RSCG Zurich was commissioned by Peugeot (Suisse) SA with the conception and realization of a launch campaign for the new Peugeot 4007 4×4. The campaign subject puts the elegant Peugeot design in the foreground, "which puts all other comparable vehicles in the shade and makes them look cumbersome," according to the responsible CD and concept designer Claude Catsky and Jürg Aemmer at Euro RSCG. The ads can be seen in the Sunday press, daily newspapers, magazines and selected special interest titles.
In October, the campaign will be supplemented by megaposters and e-boards in key cities. This will also be accompanied by an Internet campaign as well as flanking measures at the POS, direct mails and dealer ads. The declared goal of Peugeot (Suisse) SA is to quickly build awareness of the new model.
For Catsky, it is of course "a nice opportunity" that a campaign for a global brand like Peugeot can be launched from Switzerland. He accordingly hopes that the ideas will also find favor in Paris and "will be adopted if necessary.
As almost always with car advertising, Euro RSCG has also incorporated the model into the subject. Which was no problem this time, because "the new off-roader really looks very cheeky and light on its feet". In this sense, the campaign is a concrete model advertising, but at the same time can convey a fresh image of the manufacturer Peugeot.
