There have been several changes at Axel Springer Switzerland in recent months: Urs Aeberli replaced Hansjörg Ryser as editor-in-chief of Stocks, Dirk Schütz is taking over as editor-in-chief of Bilanz, there was a reshuffling at the editor-in-chief level among the TV magazines, and Balz Hosang will step down as editor-in-chief of Beobachter next spring.
«There’s no unrest here—all these changes were made by mutual agreement,» Axel Springer Switzerland CEO Ralph Büchi told *Werbewoche*. «The changes took place for various reasons: At Stocks, it became clear that Hansjörg Ryser is better suited for a different position—he now heads the Invest department at Bilanz. If we were talking about soccer, I’d say he scores more goals in his current role.».
In the TV magazine sector, the situation changed completely in a very short time: «First we took over TV-Star, then Ringier’s magazines. Since the magazines collaborate in many areas, we no longer need a separate editor-in-chief for each title. We’ve found a good solution here with Editor-in-Chief Gion Stecher as ‚primus inter pares’ and Urs Padel as deputy editor-in-chief and editor-in-chief of Tele. Ringier also wanted Dominic Geisseler back—that worked out well.» Geisseler, the former editor-in-chief of Tele, TV2, and TV vier, now heads Schweizer Illustrierte. According to Büchi, there are numerous opportunities for editorial collaboration among Axel Springer Switzerland’s TV magazines. However, merging titles is not currently under consideration.
The change at *Der Beobachter* announced last week was due to yet another reason: «Balz Hosang, who will soon turn 60, has expressed a desire not to be involved in day-to-day operations as editor-in-chief with the same intensity in the coming years. That is why he is now taking on the role of editor-in-chief,» said Büchi.
Büchi emphasized that these changes within his company had been carefully considered and carried out without haste. «And changes are simply part of business life.».
