Free cab service launches in the USA

Competition for Uber: Nomocab.com offers free, ad-financed cab rides in the USA.

Free cab rides are now possible in the USA. Thanks to Nomocab, advertisers can expect "a new interactive form of out-of-home advertising" that guarantees "a captive audience". Advertisers can not only plaster the outside of cabs with their messages, but also target passengers inside the car. Specifically: "We wrap the car with your advertising, place your products inside the vehicle and even have the driver promote them during the journey," it says on Nomocab.com. In other words: the passenger does not pay with money, but with attention.

Similar to its paid competitor Uber, anyone can take part. The requirements are a clean traffic record, a car that is no more than five years old and in good condition - and the willingness to have the vehicle plastered with advertising. In return, Nomocab guarantees a minimum income of 1500 dollars per month plus tips. The average monthly income is said to be 3000 dollars.

In particular, the fact that the chauffeur advertises products during the journey may not be to everyone's taste. However, it remains to be seen whether the temptation of free, individual transportation will prevail. The app will soon be available in the Apple Store and Google Play ("Coming soon"). (hae)

Federal Court: Convictions of "Kassensturz" journalists overturned

After Switzerland was found in violation by the European Court of Human Rights in February in connection with freedom of expression, the Federal Supreme Court granted the appeal filed by the journalists involved against the Swiss rulings.

Their convictions have therefore been overturned. The Swiss judiciary had sentenced four Swiss television journalists to fines for recording other people's conversations or for unauthorized recording of conversations. They had secretly filmed a consultation with an insurance broker. They wanted to show that the quality of advice provided by such brokers was sometimes inadequate. Although the broker did not agree to the recording being broadcast, it was shown in the Kassensturz program at the end of March 2003. However, the face of the person concerned was pixelated and his voice was made unrecognizable. The Strasbourg judges decided that the public's interest in information about the actions of brokers in the insurance sector was to be given greater weight than the protection of the personality of the person concerned (Werbewoche.ch reported). With the approval of the appeal by the four journalists, the judgments handed down to date in this matter will be set aside. (SDA)

Fraud and salacious requests on Linkedin and Xing in Switzerland

The misuse of professional networking sites is also on the rise in Switzerland. Many women report that they have been contacted in an inappropriate manner by men on LinkedIn or Xing.

"The abuse is now getting out of hand," commented Bernhard Bauhofer of management consultancy Sparring Partners in Thursday's Handelszeitung. "With Linkedin and Co., the integrity of the business model is at stake." That's because the abuse doesn't just take place on the salacious level: Linkedin members report messages that are modeled on classic spam mails. This is how it works: On the one hand, via fake profiles that can be quickly unmasked. Another trick is more difficult: cyber criminals copy the profile of a real person and gain access to their network. To find the black sheep, the networks ask for help from users. Users should report every case immediately. Offenders are then warned or deleted directly.

US magazines reimburse advertising customers if they are unsuccessful

The leading magazine trade group in the USA wants to reimburse its advertising customers if their advertising does not result in an increase in sales figures.

The Association of Magazine Media, which represents almost three quarters of US magazines, announced a corresponding measure on Tuesday. The aim is to show that advertisements in magazines are better suited to increasing sales figures than advertising on television or the Internet. Despite stable readership figures, magazines in the USA are suffering from a weakening advertising market. Between 2005 and 2013, the number of advertising pages in the six most important US news magazines fell by more than half. Many advertisers are turning to other media, such as the internet.

Individual publishers had already started to reimburse costs in the event of unsuccessful advertising. However, this measure now applies to the entire media group, which represents 72 percent of the magazine market in the USA. The group represents 175 US magazine publishers with more than 900 titles and around 30 international publishers. According to the announcement, advertising customers will receive "financial compensation" if the increase in their sales figures is below the advertising price. Instead of money, the publisher can also offer the customer free advertising space. The offer applies to certain everyday products whose sales are monitored by several market research institutes. NZZ Folio is relaunched for its 25th anniversary

Next year, NZZ Folio will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The Folio team plans to use this anniversary year to relaunch the monthly magazine.

The NZZ Folio first appeared almost a quarter of a century ago. A monothematic magazine with bold topics and an independent layout - that caused a stir in the Swiss media market at the time. The founders' courage was rewarded and the concept proved successful. The NZZ Folio celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2016. The editorial team and publisher are taking this as an opportunity to set a new course in the magazine's history. A new launch is planned for fall 2016. Editor-in-chief Daniel Weber: "In the anniversary year 2016, we don't want to look back on the magazine's eventful history. Instead, we want to relaunch the Folio with the same pioneering spirit as back then, set new standards in the magazine market and mark the start of another 25 years."

Every month, NZZ Folio is dedicated to a topic that is topical beyond the day - from A for "superstition" to Z for "sugar". It is available as a single subscription and as a single copy at newsstands and is also published as a supplement to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung on the first Monday of every month.

Matteo Schuerch founds Converto

Converto is a new Swiss marketing company based in Zurich that specializes in performance marketing campaigns. It was founded by Matteo Schuerch, the former CEO of Affilinet.

"My former position as an executive in the affiliate industry allowed me to develop an understanding of the needs of advertisers, agencies as well as website owners. I found that today's performance media providers often fail to fully meet these needs. The solutions and technologies specifically developed by Converto are designed to fill exactly these gaps and deliver real value to market participants."

Digital advertising has long since become a crucial marketing channel for most companies. However, according to Matteo Schuerch, customers are generally not all positive about online advertising, often due to aggressive formats with irrelevant content. "At Converto, we strongly believe that successful online advertising can only be achieved by fully personalizing the customer experience and optimizing the relevance of content to the user in real time. This requires ad formats and marketing products that are consistent with each other and make online advertising an interesting and enjoyable experience for users."

With this vision, Converto develops online marketing solutions and technologies that generate added value for the market while being easy to understand and use. With targeted campaigns, customers can generate attention on many different platforms simultaneously, from Swiss premium websites to social networks like Facebook. The first campaigns that advertisers and agencies can book with Converto are Performance Audience Advertising campaigns. Other innovative solutions will follow in the coming months.

"With our target group-specific performance advertising campaigns, our customers can efficiently reach their target group with the right message at the right time and generate qualitative conversions. Our technology intelligently targets our clients' ads on Swiss partners' websites, enabling targeting of new and returning customers, increasing traffic to their landing pages, and sustainably boosting their conversion rates."

Glassworks: Better to label right away

Brother label makers help you better organize your daily life at the office and at home. Glaswerk’s new campaign shows just what can happen when you don’t have a label maker on hand.

Boss or Jacqueline? Each campaign motif is based on a short story that, once read, triggers an entire movie in the mind. Each motif invites and provides insights into the world between disorder and order. "Who actually owns ...?" "Where is actually ...?" Everyone is familiar with these situations - and the solutions will surely soon be too. The key visuals are an illustration of the advantages of the various Brother labeling devices.

20 minutes: Kaufmann's front page has appeared

Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign, the front page of 20 Minuten appeared in an unusual layout on Wednesday: The first two pages listed the names of several thousand opponents of an SVP ad.

They all had the crowdfunding campaign "I've had it!" of the Baden student Donat Kaufmann with a financial contribution. He was responding to an ad by the SVP, which had promoted its election campaign song on the front page of 20 Minuten in mid-September.

The creator of the campaign wanted to set an example and "draw attention to the absurd features of the current election campaign," as he wrote on the crowdfunding platform on the Internet. His goal: to raise 138'815 francs by October 14 in order to be able to buy the front page on that day.

He has succeeded in doing so. Thanks to more than 12'200 supporters, a total of just under 147'300 francs was raised. As a result, the names of the donors now appeared on the first two pages of the free newspaper - accompanied by the sentence: "Attention can be bought. Our votes can't." According to Tamedia spokesman Christoph Zimmer, the cost of the double-page spread was "only" 126'000 francs. Watson interview Says. (hae/SDA)
