Gartenmann takes over management of Publicitas Publimedia

Publicitas Publimedia is undergoing a reorganization. The goal is to align the company even more closely with the needs of the modern media market. Stephan Gartenmann will now be responsible for the overall management of Publimedia.

Publicitas Publimedia is being reorganized. The aim is to align the company even more consistently with the needs of the modern media market. This also entails changes in the management organization. The overall management of Publimedia is now one of the additional tasks of Stephan Gartenmann, who recently became head of the Allmedia Sales department at Publicitas (see ). The management of print campaigns and the promotion of Swiss titles as well as the support of advertising clients and their agencies have always been part of Publimedia's activities. The reorganization now provides for two separately managed parts of the company, which will concentrate on the qualitative handling of campaigns on the one hand and the support of nationally active advertising clients on the other. At the same time, Publicitas is developing new systems to make the handling of print campaigns even more effective for advertising clients and the media. Both units of Publimedia will provide their services in close cooperation with the agencies of advertising clients, Publicitas announced in a press release on Friday.
National key account management will be concentrated on around four dozen national advertising clients, who will be managed in consultation with their agencies. A number of regional key accounts will now be managed in the Publicitas branches. This shift is intended to further strengthen the customer proximity of Publicitas and its media partners.
Markus Bieri, Head of Business Engineering at Publicitas, said that the design and implementation of new IT-based tools had also begun in order to be able to respond even more precisely to the needs of clients and agencies. "In addition to the planning tools already established on the market, we will significantly expand the area of campaign processing in particular. We are thus supporting the focus on allmedia and optimizing processes for calculation, booking, reservation and reporting as well as integrations with existing industry solutions."

Basel and Geneva block spot on trafficking in women

The commercial against trafficking in women, which premiered this week, cannot be shown everywhere: In the public viewing zones of the two host cities, Geneva and Basel, the film will not be shown or will only be shown with restrictions. The campaign's sponsors speak of censorship and are convinced that the cities are clamping down for image reasons.

The commercial against trafficking in women, which premiered this week, cannot be shown everywhere: In the public viewing zones of the two host cities Geneva and Basel, the film will not be shown or will only be shown with restrictions. Geneva had refused from the outset, as the Tages-Anzeiger reported on Friday. In Basel, after a screening of the spot, it was decided that it should only be shown after 11pm. The sponsors of the campaign, including Amnesty International Switzerland and Heks, are outraged by the decision and speak of censorship. In Basel, the commercial is shown at a time when the last spectators are leaving the stands.
Christoph Bosshardt from the Euro 08 project management in Basel explains the decision to the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper with the protection of children: "We find the film relatively harsh. That's why we don't want to show it in the afternoon when children are in the zones." Bosshardt added to Werbewoche that spots from various organizations are shown free of charge on the big screen in Basel: from the ICRC, the Office against Racism and a clip against littering. "We have to find a place for everyone. For the anti-trafficking film, we think the evening is the best time to show it, because that's when the target group can be easily reached."
He defends himself against the accusation that the broadcast after 11 p.m. takes place "to the exclusion of the public": "Our fan zones are open until midnight and on Basel match days until 2 a.m. and still offer a program." However, Bosshardt also signaled a willingness to accommodate: One option would be to show the commercial during the interval of the last match of the day, i.e. at around 9.30 pm. Whether this option gets the green light will be decided over the course of next week.
Pius Walker, who developed the film with his Walker advertising agency, does not accept the child protection argument: "The commercial hardly shows any physical violence: the brutality takes place in the mind. It's not understandable for children and therefore not threatening." He sees the argument from Basel as a cop-out: "It's much more about the organizers censoring the commercial for the sake of economic interests: They don't want to upset advertisers and don't want to jeopardize the atmosphere at the events." The issue of trafficking in women seems to be the real reason for not wanting to show the commercial. It does not fit in with the image cultivation of the two cities, according to the organizations behind the campaign.
Bosshardt also contradicts this: "It's not about economic interests, because the campaign spots are not in competition with the commercial advertising spots and there are no conditions for this, and it's also not about the festive atmosphere, because otherwise we wouldn't broadcast the spot at all." The assumption is that there will be a festive atmosphere, especially after the games.

The commercial can be shown in Bern and Zurich: it will be shown on the big screens in the fan zones before the games. In the city on the Limmat, however, the decision in favor of the campaign was a close one. Mayor Elmar Ledergerber was even personally briefed on the campaign by the Walker advertising agency. For once, Uefa has no reservations either, and will show the commercial free of charge in all stadiums as a form of support. The commercial will also be shown on Swiss television and on the big screens of 11 UBS arenas.

ViznerBorel: The gateway to a better environment

A high-profile commercial is designed to ensure that we don’t drown in a sea of trash during the Euro. The idea for the anti-littering ad came from ViznerBorel; it was produced by Reto Salimbeni and Manifesto Films.

Euro 08 is approaching - and with it the mountain of waste. A broad-based working group has taken a number of measures to ensure that we are at most on the field of glory and not drowning in the misery of waste. Among other things, a large-scale advertising spot with the meaningful title "A Goal for the Environment" was presented to the media in Zurich on Wednesday. Switzerland and Austria have drawn up a joint sustainability concept for Uefa Euro 08. This has objectives in the three areas of environment, economy and social/cultural issues. 12 topics have found influence in 58 implementations. One of these is the waste concept and its necessary communication.
The advertising agency ViznerBorel, already experienced with various campaigns on the subject of recycling, developed the idea for an anti-littering commercial. This was realized by Reto Salimbeni and his Manifesto Films. The commercial adopts the visual language of major advertising films such as those for Coca-Cola or Nike - after all, it has to be able to hold its own in this environment at public viewings. Thanks to a great deal of goodwill from all those involved, however, the budget is "much more modest", as Vizner-Borel was allowed to say. The film will also have a prominent screening at public viewings in Vienna and other venues in Austria.
The city of Zurich has implemented a communication strategy around the spot that "makes disposal very easy" during Euro 08, as those responsible hope. This concept includes disposable cups as well as internationally understandable signage with newly developed pictograms pointing to the collection points set up throughout the city. More background information on the entire campaign and the making of the commercial in the upcoming print issue no. 22/2008 of Werbewoche.

SF: Press TV gets new broadcasting slots

SRG and Presse-TV (PTV) have agreed on a new contract that will come into force at the beginning of next year. Instead of the previous broadcasting blocks at the weekend, PTV will now receive various broadcasting slots on SF 1, SF zwei and as a repeat on SF info. Overall, publisher television will broadcast fewer broadcast minutes than before.

SRG and Presse-TV (PTV) have agreed on a new contract that will come into force at the beginning of next year. Instead of the previous broadcasting blocks at the weekend, PTV will now receive various broadcasting slots on SF 1, SF zwei and as a repeat on SF info. Overall, publisher television will broadcast fewer broadcasting minutes than before. "With the new RTVA, Swiss television is no longer obliged to cooperate with other broadcasters," emphasized SRG Director General Armin Walpen at a media conference on Thursday. It is now only "endeavoring" to do so. Under these conditions, it was able to reach an agreement with PTV. The representatives of SRG and SF as well as PTV expressed their satisfaction with the new solution: "We have conducted very constructive and amicable negotiations," was emphasized by all sides. The contract must now be approved by the Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC).
However, three programs will be cutPTV will be able to broadcast fewer minutes in future and will have to operate with a budget around half as large as before, as Managing Director Fibo Deutsch explained. However, the lower number of broadcasting minutes will also reduce costs. Three programs will be cut: "Konsum TV", "Fussballtalk" and "100 Minuten". SF pays PTV a fixed annual advertising lease amounting to CHF 5 million, as SF boss Ingrid Deltenre explained. Publisuisse is responsible for marketing. PTV will remain responsible for sponsorship - which is also expected to make a considerable contribution to the costs. Swiss Television will retain the unrestricted rights of use. There will only be repeats on the regional channels in individual cases. In this way, SF wants to strengthen its brand management, as Deltenre said.
In return, SF is committed to integrating the PTV programs into the program structure "in the best possible way", the statement continued. Nevertheless, not all PTV slots seem to be shining: "NZZ Format" and "NZZ-Swissmade" will run on Thursday at 11.15 p.m. on SF 1. "Gesundheit Sprechstunde" will flicker across the screen on Saturday at 6.10 p.m. on SF 1. On Sunday, "Standpunkte" can be seen on SF 1 at 1.10 pm and "Bekanntmachung" at midnight. An as yet undefined program - either from PTV or SF - will be shown at 6.10 pm. Also on Sunday, but on SF 2, are "Motorshow TCS" at 5.40 pm and "Cash-TV"/"Cash-Talk" at 10.30 pm.
Of course, we would have liked to have seen a different place for some programs, explained Wolfgang Frei, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PTV and Head of the "NZZ Format" editorial team. But overall, it makes much more sense to no longer be penned into the rigid weekend broadcasting grid, commented Deutsch: "Up until now, that was a pretty cemented ghetto." Now they want to pay more attention to ensuring that a show is positioned correctly in the context of the rest of the program and the competitive environment. The aim is to avoid PTV competing with SF productions running at the same time with its own productions.
The conditions that have now been agreed are to be reviewed annually, for example
whether there is a viewer need for a particular program or whether it contributes to journalistic diversity. Both parties emphasized that PTV will no longer broadcast with its own licence in future, as this is no longer required under the new RTVA. Instead, it will act as a broadcaster and will have journalistic responsibility. However, SF will retain programming sovereignty.
SF focuses on "Swiss Sunday" After the program changes, SF wants to focus on local productions for Sunday: It is to become "Swiss Sunday" on SF 1, with Swiss feature and TV films and major show events such as "Music Star" or "The Greatest Swiss Hits". A new entertainment format directly from the Swiss regions is also planned. It is based on the concept of the summer program "Bsuech in...", which will be extended to 90 minutes. Ten episodes are planned during the summer months. In contrast, series are to be shown on SF 2. The Sunday evening program "Sportpanorama" will move from SF 1 to SF 2. (cs)

Public Viewing: Intermediate decision against Uefa

Uefa has suffered a setback in its dispute with the copyright companies over the fees for public viewing at Euro 08. The Federal Administrative Court has withdrawn the suspensive effect of the football association's appeal.

Uefa has suffered a setback in its dispute with the copyright companies over the fees for public viewing at Euro 08. The Federal Administrative Court has withdrawn the suspensive effect of the football association's appeal. This means that, for the time being, the tariff adopted by the Arbitration Commission for the Exploitation of Copyrights in April will continue to apply. The Commission thus granted Suisa, as the representative of the copyright societies, the right to charge license fees for public viewing. The tariff had been suspended in the meantime due to Uefa's complaint (see
). Following Thursday's interim decision, Suisa will now continue to issue licenses, as Suisa spokesman Martin Wüthrich told the SDA news agency in response to an inquiry. Uefa has been charging license fees for public viewing events since July 2007. It justifies this by stating that it is producing the television images itself for the first time in the history of the European Football Championship. However, the Uefa fees are controversial among legal experts.
The dispute over public viewing fees concerns large screens measuring more than three meters diagonally. Hosts, clubs, municipalities and other interested parties do not need a Uefa license for smaller screens, but must pay a Suisa fee.

Net-Metrix published the new edition of its Internet usage study Net-Metrix-Profile on Friday. Bluewin remains the portal with the highest reach among the 60 websites included in the study, with 1.806 million unique users per month. It is followed by Search.ch (1,328 million), 20minuten.ch (749,000), Sf.tv (663,000) and Blick Online (658,000). The reach unique users indicates how many people use a website in a given period. The current edition of the study includes usage data from 60 websites and 95 units of occupancy. Overall, the websites covered achieve a total market coverage of 92 percent of all Internet users in Switzerland and Liechtenstein.
In the current publication, average usage time per user is reported for the first time as a new key figure. This indicates how long users of a website or booking unit (subheading) use the service on average in a week or month. Here, too, Bluewin comes out on top with 94 minutes per week. It is followed by the party site Lautundspitz.ch (82 minutes), the dating site Singles.ch (78 minutes), Cash.ch (60 minutes) and Partnerwinner.ch (51 minutes).
As a further innovation, additional target group information is published in Net-Metrix-Profile 2008-1, including business areas, new topic interests and frequency of use for the following Internet offerings: Online games, blogs, forums, online communities; booking travel/flights online; stock market information and financial investments.
