End of the reality show Big Brother in the UK

The reality show «Big Brother» is being canceled in the United Kingdom. As Channel 4 announced on Wednesday, the show has reached its "natural conclusion" after 11 seasons.

The reality show Big Brother is being canceled in the UK. According to SDA, Channel 4 announced on Wednesday that the format has reached its "natural end point" after eleven seasons. After around eight million viewers in 2002, fewer and fewer people were tuning in: With just under two million viewers, the most recent episodes reached fewer people than at any time since the start of broadcasting nine years ago. Next year, the show will finally come to an end.
However, the decision to cancel Big Brother was not economically justified, said Channel 4 director Kevin Lygo. Despite the decline in popularity, the format is still profitable for the private broadcaster. However, the broadcaster has a "public duty" to promote "new forms of creativity".

Advertising under the red sun

The Zurich-Tokyo agency is speaking authentic Japanese for the first time on behalf of Oerlikon Solar.

When I named the agency Zürich Tokio, I would never have dreamed that one day our work would actually be seen in Tokyo," reveals Daniel Donati, founder and owner of Zürich Tokio. "But now the time has come: Zürich Tokio is becoming a reality." In February of this year, the Zurich agency won the global account from Oerlikon Solar and was commissioned to redesign the market leader's brand identity. The aim was to succinctly implement Oerlikon Solar's promise "We make solar power economically viable" and to dramatize the imminent achievement of grid parity. This means cost parity between solar energy and conventional energy.
The result is three advertisements with the subjects "Reach", "Touch" and "At your fingertips". In all of them, the approach to the economic use of solar energy is presented in a memorable way. The fact that solar energy is available everywhere is symbolized by the various landscapes in the background.
In addition to the advertisements, Zurich Tokyo also created a new brochure concept with a generous design that reflects the imposing dimensions of a solar module production facility. The communication was designed in English and translated into Chinese, Korean and Japanese. The work from Zurich was shown for the first time in Tokyo at Japan's largest solar trade fair at the end of June. "A great feeling," Donati is still proud.

Jung von Matt/Limmat picks up the fork for health promotion

As part of Health Promotion Switzerland’s ongoing campaign to combat obesity, Jung von Matt/Limmat shows that healthy eating and dining out can go hand in hand. The campaign’s message is that there are other criteria besides Gault-Millau ratings that foodies can use as a guide.

As part of Health Promotion Switzerland's ongoing campaign to combat obesity, Jung von Matt/Limmat shows that healthy eating and eating out can go hand in hand. According to the campaign, there are other criteria than Gault Millau points that gourmets can use as a guide. For example, the "Fourchette Verte". The signet on the restaurant door announces that this restaurant not only serves good food, but also a balanced diet. The quality label is only awarded to restaurants that offer healthy meals based on the food pyramid.
For example, three posters and advertisements feature various vegetables being embraced by forks. This emphasizes how much passion for healthy food "Fourchette Verte" and health promotion have for the benefit of the Swiss population.

The future begins at sunrise

The Boxx advertising agency gives Swissolar a dazzling look.

Today, the commissioning of a solar power plant is still a special occasion. But in ten years' time, solar power plants will be commonplace, said the French-speaking Swiss researcher Bertrand Piccard optimistically this week at the opening of a solar plant at Payerne airfield. "Harnessing the power of the sun is no longer just a matter of alternatives. It is a future-oriented growth market with many outstanding features," says Swissolar, the Swiss Solar Energy Association. The Boxx advertising agency has now been entrusted with a broad communication offensive to make this clear to end customers. "The use of solar energy should not be done out of a guilty conscience, but should be part of a forward-looking lifestyle," is the message conveyed. In the campaign, clean solar energy stands for well-being, health and progress. This can be seen against the background that the sun "supplies" Switzerland with 220 times more energy than is consumed in the same time - and free of charge. As an active contribution to climate protection, solar energy creates independence for homeowners in an environmentally friendly and efficient way and is therefore right on trend. This theme is implemented comprehensively and consistently by the Boxx advertising agency in all its appearances. The way in which the campaign is presented is intended to "appeal to all levels of society", according to CD Christoph Stähli. Like many new products, this campaign was initially controversial. However, the concerns were dispelled after extensive testing by Energie Schweiz: the new Boxx campaign achieved the best results of all current campaigns for renewable energies. "The clear comprehensibility of the complex information and the uniform appearance has quickly established itself with consumers," confirms the Swissolar association.
The Swissolar association pools the power of the solar industry. It is a service provider for information, education, quality assurance and joint advertising. As the association is primarily concerned with the cause, the focus is not on Swissolar, but on the sun as an energy supplier. The white sun in the blue sky represents power and energy and thus evokes positive feelings. The campaign depicts people in everyday situations, showing where we rely on water and electricity every day. The motifs can also be found on trade fair posters and brochures. These also show images of modern solar architecture. Solar panels as a new building element are versatile and an aesthetic eye-catcher.

To the point: expensive free crutch

Following the discontinuation of the free newspaper .ch, it was expected from many quarters that the costly free newspaper project would be discontinued sooner or later. The rumors got a further boost when Matthias Hageman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM), made the following statement in an interview with Werbewoche at the beginning of July this year:

Following the discontinuation of the free newspaper .ch, it was expected from many quarters that the costly free newspaper project would be discontinued sooner or later. The rumors got a further boost when Matthias Hageman, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Basler Zeitung Medien (BZM), made the following statement in an interview with Werbewoche at the beginning of July this year: "News had several goals. On the one hand, it was supposed to help BaZ in the advertising market. This commercial goal has not yet been achieved, which was hardly conceivable in the current environment. That's why News - like all loss-making activities - is on our watch list. But a very important goal was also to get .ch out of the market. Sascha Wigdorovits initially wanted to bring a high-quality free newspaper into every home, which posed a threat to all subscription newspapers. Today, I am glad that .ch has disappeared and that there has been a considerable bloodbath among investors. That should deter copycats. This result already justifies being involved with News."
No one said it so clearly before: The enemy has been defeated and the raison d'être for another free newspaper is thus no longer given.
Now, just under two months later, the News Basler Zeitung and News Berner Zeitung editions will be discontinued and will appear for the last time on Friday, August 28, 2009. Basler Zeitung Medien reassessed its stake in NP News Print AG as part of the cost reviews and decided to transfer its shares to Tamedia. Espace Media is also transferring its stake in NP News Print AG to Tamedia.
So far, so good, but what happens in Zurich? Nothing at all. The News Tages-Anzeiger edition remains. Original quote from Tamedia: "This will integrate News even more strongly into the Tages-Anzeiger media network (...). With its compact news offering and its focus on a young and urban readership, the commuter newspaper should attract additional readers to the media group and increase its reach in the greater Zurich area."
In September, the Tages-Anzeiger is planning a comprehensive relaunch. Expectations are high, as the new concept is supposed to put the Tages-Anzeiger back on the road to success. This requires heart and soul, but apparently no one at Werdstrasse really believes in success. After all, a successfully renovated Tages-Anzeiger would not need an (expensive) free newspaper crutch to survive in the market and attract new readers.
