Spinas Gemperle: Print campaign for the Zewo Foundation

The Spinas Gemperle agency has created an advertising campaign for the Zewo Foundation, the Swiss certification body for charitable, fundraising organizations. The focus is on the Zewo seal of approval.

The seal of approval recognizes charitable organizations for the conscientious handling of the funds entrusted to them. It is intended to show donors that their money is going to the right place. Spinas Gemperle has integrated the seal of approval into subjects that donors associate with well-known organizations or donor topics.

The print campaign with the co-financiers WWF, Caritas, Pro Infirmis, Rega and the Swiss Red Cross is intended to strengthen Zewo's image and raise its profile, and not just among regular donors. From October to December 2010, the print subjects could be seen weekly in Tagi-Magi and L'Hebdo. A follow-up campaign with other organizations is planned for next year.

Expansion of Google TV delayed

The rollout of Google TV is being delayed. US media reported earlier this week that Google wants to revise the software once more before other manufacturers launch their devices running Google's software.

Critics had slammed the operation when it was first presented. Google TV runs on special TV sets or set-top boxes. The Japanese electronics group Sony and the Swiss computer accessories manufacturer Logitech are already using the technology. With Google TV, the search engine specialist wants to merge television and the Internet. Viewers will be able to access and search both the Internet and hundreds of TV channels directly on the TV via Google's Chrome browser.

It's not the first setback for Google TV: Media groups had refused toto give away their content. They fear that this will hurt traditional, advertising-financed television. Online video stores such as Netflix and Hulu are particularly popular in the USA and have already taken viewers away from TV stations.

Draftfcb/Lowe Group: New motif for the self-help center

The Draftfcb/Lowe Group agency has designed a key visual for the Self-Help Center. It is currently being used as a poster design, a movie theater slide, and an advertisement, under the slogan: “Together, you can get your problem under control more effectively.”.

The Draftfcb/Lowe Group created the foundation for the entire communication presence back in the summer, from the new corporate identity to above-the-line communication. When creating the logo, the thematic focus was also on the platform and service function of the self-help group center. The Self-Help Center is the hub for self-help issues in Zurich. The center promotes mutual help among people with the same condition and provides infrastructure for group meetings. Further projects are planned for 2011.

Publicom: Experts surveyed on quality in the media

The media consulting firm Publicom surveyed experts from the media and communications industry on the topic of «Quality in the Media.» A clear majority of the experts believe that there are both negative and positive developments.

The respondents see an improvement in user convenience and up-to-dateness, for example. The majority of the panel also saw no deterioration in the presentation of different opinions and perspectives. This is not the case for technical accuracy, which may have suffered as a result of the improvement in topicality: Four-fifths of the experts surveyed see a deterioration here. The majority also believe that there has been a deterioration in terms of topic relevance, expertise, research accuracy, source transparency and background information.

The experts believe that journalistic quality is least at risk in the SRG media and the trade and specialist press. Radio DRS in particular enjoys a dazzling image. The Sunday press also appears to be less threatened by a loss of quality. On the other hand, almost three quarters of the experts surveyed see at least some threats to the regional daily press. The situation is even worse for the online media and private radio stations, and the private television stations and commuter newspapers appear to be most at risk.

Edipresse and Publicitas conclude new cooperation agreement

The advertising agency Publicitas and the Western Swiss publishing house Edipresse have signed a new framework agreement. Starting January 1, 2011, Publicitas will sell advertising in Edipresse publications on a non-exclusive basis.

The framework agreement covers all Edipresse newspapers and magazines in Switzerland, the two companies announced on Monday. Publicitas was the exclusive seller of advertisements in Edipresse publications until the end of 2009. Since then, the French-speaking Swiss publishing house, whose Swiss business will be fully taken over by Tamedia by the end of 2012, has marketed its Swiss magazines and newspapers itself. After the Loss of exclusive sales rights had to Publicitas Cut 89 jobs in Lausanne and Geneva.

Publicitas and Edipresse would continue their cooperation on a new basis with the new contract, Markus Bieri, operational head of Publicitas, explained in response to an inquiry from the SDA news agency. During the current year, the two companies had worked together under a transitional arrangement. A completely new contract has been drawn up. A comparison with the previous exclusive contract is therefore not possible, Bieri said. The new contract would not create any new jobs.

Last but not least: Hungarian youth broadcaster fined for "sweet foursome"

A Hungarian television station has violated the protection of minors with a matchmaking show. As a result, the private broadcaster TV2, a subsidiary of the German media group ProSiebenSat.1, must now pay 100 million forints (466,000 francs).

This was decided by the Hungarian media supervisory authority NMHH, as the country's newspapers reported on Friday. With its show "Edes negyes" (Sweet Foursome), the broadcaster had repeatedly violated the youth protection provisions of the applicable media law. The actors in the show - four women vying for the favor of a washed-up pop star - used "vulgar language" and "direct sexual innuendo", the media reports continued. As the show is broadcast during prime time in the evening and is watched by up to 50,000 children and young people, their psychological development could be severely affected. In this context, it is not hard to guess what the Hungarian government thinks of MTV and its evening programs.
A controversial new media law will now be passed in the Hungarian parliament next Monday, which provides for a maximum individual fine of 932,000 Swiss francs for television broadcasters who violate regulations. In addition, unlike under the current media law, in future print and online media can also be fined up to 116,000 Swiss francs by the NMHH supervisory authority.

Ringier Axel Springer Media has taken over the Slovakian online portal AZET.SK. Its Slovakian subsidiary acquired 70 percent of the shares in the AZET.SK operator.

The new acquisition is a so-called horizontal Internet portal that bundles a large number of different websites and online services, as the joint venture between Ringier and the German media group Axel Springer announced on Friday. The portal was founded in 1997 and currently reaches over 75 percent of Slovakian Internet users, putting it in a leading position in the online market, according to the press release.

Audience Council: "Giacobbo/Müller" meets the requirements of a satirical program

The satirical show «Giacobbo/Müller – Late Service Public» has been well received by the Public Council. Just under three years after its debut, the Swiss Television program has established its own distinct identity. The Council is impressed by the hosting duo.

"Giacobbo/Müller" picks up on current social and political events and presents them in a witty and entertaining way, the Audience Council announced on Friday. The Council particularly liked the sketches and the
Weekly review. Viktor Giacobbo and Mike Müller's moderation performance is rated as excellent. The interplay between the two works well, the interaction is entertaining and funny, even if the entertainment value is not equally high in all programs.
On the other hand, the talk with a guest is not always convincing, whereby this is largely due to the guests. They often try desperately to appear witty and quick-witted. It is also annoying when political guests are allowed to widely promote their causes.
The interludes by "Frölein Da Capo", on the other hand, are almost invariably well received, according to the report. With her refreshing and dry manner, she is an excellent counterpart to the two presenters. Several members of the Council wished she could be more involved in the show. The guest artists are described as a good way to liven things up, with unknown artists also repeatedly being given a platform. However, the Council regrets that hardly any women appear.
