Publicis: TV commercials invented for V-Zug

Publicis has created a campaign for V-Zug. TV commercials show that V-Zug’s new appliances make life easier and more convenient. They also inspire people to come up with their own «inventions» by having them pass off the appliances’ capabilities as their own achievements.

One spot features a host who conjures up a master menu with the Combi-Steamer at the touch of a button, but leaves his guests believing that he cooked everything himself with a great deal of expertise and effort. In the other, a straw widower who impresses his friends by ironing his shirts himself, even though the Adora washing machine with its steam ironing program makes ironing superfluous.

In addition to the TV commercials, the new campaign also features advertisements that support the "Well Invented" message. In French-speaking Switzerland, V-Zug's position is additionally strengthened in print and on posters with testimonials from top chef Philippe Rochat.

Responsible at V-Zug: Philipp Hofmann (Head of Marketing), Hans Mazzoleni (Director Market Switzerland), Daniela Hotz (Head of PR), Jasmin Riesen (Marketing Services). Responsible at Publicis: Ralph Halder (CD), Lori Fischer and Tom Kees (AD), Valentin Cheli (graphics), Cyrill Wirz and Albert Matzinger (text), Bruno Biondi and Marcus Aeberhard (consulting), Derya Derdiyok (FFF producer). Republica for Westside: poster campaign for ironing out

Republica created a poster campaign for the Westside leisure and shopping center with a unique twist: The posters feature clothes hangers attached to them, each with a coupon booklet.

Westside customers can currently benefit from 48 discounts and special offers in most of the 55 Westside stores. These 48 discounts are summarized in a coupon booklet. To make the campaign a talking point in the city of Bern, Republica has launched a self-service campaign for Westside. At six highly frequented APG outlets, posters were fitted with clothes hangers on which the coupon booklets were hung. With the message "Seize your profit", passers-by are asked to take the booklets and hangers with them.

The campaign was a success, the agency announced on Tuesday. Within a very short time on Monday, the first coupon booklets had been posted and dozens of passers-by had stopped in front of the billboards. The campaign will run until February 20. Until then, the posters will be continuously refilled with hangers and booklets.

Apple: App Store subscriptions announced

Apple unveiled a new subscription service on Tuesday. In the future, publishers will be allowed to offer subscriptions to their content both within and outside the App Store. Apple's sales policies have been sharply criticized by publishers so far. They are demanding free access to Apple's iPad.

It is the same solution Rubert Murdoch uses for his iPad newspaper The Daily, Apple announced on Tuesday. Publishers can determine the price and the duration of the subscription. As before, the group wants a 30 percent share in return. However, Apple is now giving publishers the option of offering their subscription outside the App Store, for example on their website, or granting free access to existing subscribers. In this case, the publisher keeps 100 percent and Apple earns nothing, as Steve Jobs promises in a communiqué. The condition, however, is that the corresponding subscription offer is also offered in the App Store - "this one (or a better one). Publishers can therefore not pass on the share that Apple keeps for itself to the customer. In addition, publishers do not get free access to customer data. Apple wants to give customers the choice. When they sign up for a subscription, they will be given the "option to provide the publisher with their name, email address and zip code when they sign up," the statement continues. The publishers have yet to respond.

In addition to the prices, the media companies are also allowed to determine the duration of the iPad and iPhone subscription offers, as Kress.de writes on Tuesday. Apple will handle all payment transactions and debit the subscription money from the corresponding iTunes user accounts. Publishers are prohibited from advertising their own Apple-independent subscriptions in their apps.

The European Newspaper Publishers Association had recently called for free access to the iPad. In a statement, it said that Apple should not dictate a business model to publishers, that publishers wanted to negotiate directly with customers, present offers on online and print packages and generally decide independently on payment modalities, as Kress.de writes further on Tuesday. Publishers seem to have to come to terms with the business model of the market-dominating Apple tablet. However, new flat computers are already pushing onto the market, linked to Google's Android 3.0 operating system, project name: Honeycomb.
