Valencia: Basel markets freshly staged

To promote the Basel markets, Valencia Kommunikation designed a visual that seamlessly combines personality, freshness, and diversity.

The city of Basel has a rich market culture: around 12 markets throughout the city invite visitors to discover and enjoy. From the traditional city market on the Marktplatz to the new goods market on Barfüsserplatz and charming neighborhood and flea markets. Basel's location marketing wanted to communicate this diversity with new advertising measures to both domestic and foreign visitors, while at the same time conveying the core values of "regional, friendly, fresh".

Valencia Kommunikation developed a new visual in consultation with the client and partly using existing visuals. The common denominator and distinguishing feature from the usual retail trade was the personal shopping experience. The central element of the new communication is therefore a likeable market trader. He presents a shopping cart containing products from all the markets and thus represents the diversity that the Basel markets offer. The visual is used on various advertising measures such as flyers or streetcar posters with dispensers.

Tamedia ends cooperation with Sotomo

Political geographer Michael Hermann is losing his analytical position at Tamedia. The decision has drawn internal criticism.

The collaboration with Hermann's Sotomo research center was concluded in October 2015. announced by Tamedia. With weighted post-election surveys on Tamedia's wide-reaching news portals, comprehensive analyses of socio-demographic voting behavior were possible just a few weeks after elections and votes. As research by Schweiz am Sonntag shows, this is now a thing of the past. Tamedia has now awarded the contract for election surveys to the two newcomer political scientists Lucas Leemann and Fabio Wasserfallen, who have already proven themselves at 20 Minuten. In contrast to Sotomo, they are tied exclusively to Tamedia, whereas Hermann was keen to remain independent.

According to Schweiz am Sonntag, publisher Pietro Supino's decision is said to have caused displeasure within the Tages-Anzeiger editorial team. Among other things, because political reasons are suspected behind it. Supino is said to have become increasingly involved in editorial matters recently. Among other things, he is said to have called for a right-wing counterpart to the left-liberal columnist Daniel Binswanger in the magazine. However, his preferred candidate Markus Somm declined. And Michael Hermann's columns, which he has been writing in the Tages-Anzeiger since 2009, are also said to have been "too pointed" for the publisher recently - for example after the Yes to the SVP mass immigration initiative, as the Sonntagsblatt writes.

Tamedia spokesperson Christoph Zimmer explains that the "separation of data collection and data commentary" spoke in favor of the two new political analysts - it was not a decision against Hermann and his team. For Hermann, however, it is clear that data collection and data classification belong together. (hae/Schweiz am Sonntag)

Last but not least: racing robot

Puma and JWT are delighting ambitious runners with a clever gadget designed to motivate them to peak performance during training: Introducing the Beatbot.

Those who follow the faster runners run or drive faster. This is because the ambition to keep up is motivating. This is why there are pacemakers in cycling races, for example, who temporarily (with a great deal of effort) take the lead in a group and thus spur on their stronger teammates.

Unbenannt-45_2

In collaboration with JWT, Puma has now presented the Beatbot in the USA. This is an autonomous remote-controlled car. A desired time for the 100-meter run, for example, is entered via an app. For example, your own best time that you would like to beat. The BeatBot then accompanies the runner for the desired time. As it can run at speeds of up to 44 km/h, the device doesn't even stop at Usain Bolt's world record time of 9.58 seconds. The bot follows the white lines of the track to keep on track.

The racing shoebox seems to be a pretty good and fairly well implemented idea. Whether and at what price the walking robot will be available to the masses remains to be seen. However, it is unlikely to be cheap. (hae)

UBS also punishes media with advertising boycott

Because the Finanz + Wirtschaft newspaper does not write to UBS's liking, the big bank has stopped placing ads in the Tamedia publication since spring 2015.

Markus Somm's comments on the SVP's advertising boycott have triggered lively discussions in the media world (Werbewoche.ch reported). As Schweiz am Sonntag now points out in its current issue, Somm's view that advertisers do not have to let the editorial team ride roughshod over them is a reality in practice. UBS, for example, has apparently been punishing Finanz + Wirtschaft with an advertising ban for a year and has not placed a single print ad since then. The reason: the line taken by Finanz + Wirtschaft under editor-in-chief Mark Dittli in the debate about "too big to fail" legislation does not suit the big bank. In February 2015, Dittli called for an increase in the equity ratio at UBS and CS. A year earlier, the business journalist had already been critical of the banks' policies since the 2008 financial crisis in a guest article. In September 2015, Dittli and Sergio Ermotti got into a heated exchange during an interview.

The head of the company himself is said to have ordered the advertising stop - Schweiz am Sonntag refers to statements made by a bank lobbyist. Dittli confirms to the newspaper that UBS has not placed any advertisements "for some time", but states that he does not know the reason for this. And the media house Tamedia does not comment on "possible disputes" with advertising customers as a matter of principle. (hae)

Former editor-in-chief: Neue LZ owes its success to its independence

Readers remain loyal to the Neue Luzerner Zeitung primarily because of its journalistic independence. Thomas Bornhauser, who is stepping down as editor-in-chief after 20 years, is convinced of this. He reports numerous attempts at blackmail.

The claim to editorial independence is and remains a prerequisite for credibility. And credibility, in turn, is at the beginning and at the core of the newspaper's success story, writes the 60-year-old newspaperman in a full-page article on page 2 of Saturday's edition to mark his departure. There have been several attempts at pressure and blackmail on the only remaining regional daily newspaper in Lucerne, Bornhauser reports. Even in the recent past, when party politicians from Zug tried to bypass the editorial office and head straight for the management headquarters of the NZZ parent company in Zurich. The attempts to exert pressure have repeatedly come from "office holders, party supporters and professional politicians," Bornhauser writes. However, advertisers and occasional representatives of the administration also wanted to exert influence.

When in doubt, a reader-oriented newspaper is not on the side of authorities, but on the side of "normal" people, Bornhauser said. These people, he said, are most of the customers, the thousands and thousands of subscribers who have no press officers but form the basis of the business model of a regional quality newspaper. Bornhauser is confident that the Central Switzerland newspaper will not lose its independence, even if it is part of a group based in Zurich. "Who would be so stupid as to tell an editorial department off via corporate hierarchy in such a way that you risk the coveted profits in the long run?"

Thomas Bornhauser steps down as Editor-in-Chief of the Neue Luzerner Zeitung and its four regional editions after 20 years (Werbewoche.ch reported). The reason is a reorganization by the parent company NZZ. It wants to merge the Neue Luzerner Zeitung with its sister paper, the St. Galler Tagblatt. Pascal Hollenstein is now the journalistic director of both papers. However, both newspapers will continue to have a regional editor-in-chief. Thomas Bornhauser intends to continue working as a writer in Lucerne. Bornhauser had been at the helm of the Neue Luzerner Zeitung since 1996. It had emerged from the merger of Luzerner Neuste Nachrichten and Luzerner Zeitung. The newspaper generated annual profits over the past two decades. Readership rose in that time from 286'000 (1997) to 302'000 (2016), or by 5.6 percent. (SDA)

Ogilvy & Mather informs about new BP fuels

BP has recently begun offering a fuel that reduces emissions from car engines and increases both range and efficiency. Ogilvy & Mather Zurich is responsible for the marketing campaign.

According to BP calculations based on Swiss average values, BP Ultimate Diesel can extend the range by up to 56 kilometers, BP Ultimate Unleaded 98 by up to 44 kilometers. At the same time, the new fuels with Active Technology protect the engines and thus extend their service life. This news will be communicated to motorists by means of a large-scale campaign in TV commercials, radio spots, digital ads as well as at the POS and in leaflets. At the same time, BP teams are being informed and trained with e-learnings and a service station employee film.

Werbeclub Ostschweiz with new appearance

The Advertising Club of Eastern Switzerland is now sporting a new look: Based on designs from the graphic design class at GBSSG, the club has developed a new logo and a new visual identity.

Thanks to sponsorship from various members, a new website can be designed and programmed as a central communication platform at favorable conditions.

An animated logo on the website places the encounter as the main focus of the Werbeclub Ostschweiz with implied arrows at the center of the new image. Naturally, the lettering is in black, in keeping with the restrained nature of the communications industry.

The website itself is quite colorful: a bright red stands out and attracts attention, the arrangement of news, events and members is kept as simple as possible in terms of usability and responsive design.

The Schalter&Walter agency designed the logo and website, which were technically implemented by GoEast and Netz.werk, based on designs by the graphics class at the Gewerbliche Berufsschule St.Gallen (GBSSG).

Graubünden is increasingly focusing on the Swiss market in terms of tourism

The canton of Graubünden needs to attract paying visitors to keep the tourism industry thriving. The Swiss market is expected to play a key role in this effort. This is the goal of the new strategy developed by the marketing organization Graubünden Ferien (GRF).

The canton of Graubünden recorded 4.7 million overnight hotel stays in 2015. In 2008, the number of overnight hotel stays was 6.2 million and the euro was around 1.60 francs. In the meantime, the euro has become weaker, which is having a serious impact on the entire tourism industry. January 15, 2015 changed a lot, said the President of Graubünden Ferien (GRF), Marcel Friberg, on Friday in Chur. On this day, the Swiss National Bank abandoned the minimum euro exchange rate. Friberg assumes that the exchange rate of the euro to the Swiss franc will not change much in the near future and that the tourism industry will have to live and do business with the current exchange rate.

Three directions

The cantonal marketing organization has decided on three strategic directions in its 2017 to 2020 strategy presented on Friday. The fact that GRF wants to focus more on the domestic market is due to the fact that the Swiss are more likely to remain loyal to the largest vacation region than foreigners, for whom vacations in Switzerland have become more expensive due to the falling euro exchange rate. Competencies and innovation, product development and marketing as well as the expansion of services for regional destinations and service providers are the three main thrusts of GRF. Part of the strategy is a digital offensive in market development. The GRF marketing organization works with a budget of CHF 11 million per year, CHF 7 million of which comes from the canton. GRF has not set itself a specific target in terms of the number of overnight hotel stays. "We simply need to increase the number of overnight stays again," said GRF President Friberg, who also warned that the viability of tourism could one day be called into question if the number of overnight stays continues its downward trend unabated. Y&R Group: New campaign for Generali Switzerland

Insurance companies' offerings and communications are often too abstract and too far removed from our daily lives. Y&R Group Switzerland has now launched a campaign for Generali designed to bridge that gap.

It addresses the fact that there are certain basic traits in the personality of each of us that have always been there. If you are reliable today, you probably were as a child, and if you used to be a go-getter, you are certainly not one of the reserved ones today, even as an adult. "Always" is therefore the key concept on which the entire campaign is based.

Generali-Anzeige-Sujet-Hundetaxi

Generali's communication offensive is being launched with a campaign for car insurance. The four subjects pick up on four specific Generali services. For the visualization, the agency went back to where the needs began - in childhood. Generali carried out extensive tests beforehand to determine which services were really relevant for its customers. After all, the company wanted to present itself to the Swiss population as the insurer that offers real solutions for real needs.

Generali-Anzeige-Sujet-Ersatzauto

From this information, the Y&R team then distilled the subjects, which were realized with photographer Dan Cermak and his team in a shoot lasting several days. Not only the car insurance campaign was photographed and filmed, but also other subjects for other products that will be used later.

Generali-Videobanner

Zenith Optimedia - like the Y&R Group Switzerland a new partner of Generali - has developed an off- and online campaign for this purpose, which since April 18 has been leading potential customers directly to a specially created landing page and from there, in the best case, directly to an insurance policy.

Herger Imholz: Corporate Identity for Custom Images

To reposition the Custom Images brand (formerly Tilllate custom), the design agency Herger Imholz has developed a completely new and cohesive visual identity.

The corporate identity now corresponds to the desired high-quality positioning. The brand, which is part of the 20 Minuten media network, wants to increasingly appeal to premium customers in the future. Accordingly, the visual components were given a discreet and high-quality appearance. In addition to the modern logo and the gold, black and white color scheme, a striking icon in the form of a bow-tie was introduced. This is now used consistently in all implementations, including on the completely redesigned Website.
