Netflix is the most popular paid streaming service in Switzerland
The American video service Netflix is by far the most popular paid streaming service in Switzerland. It is followed at a considerable distance by providers such as Swisscom (video-on-demand) and Spotify, according to a recent survey conducted by market research institute GfK Switzerland on behalf of Moneyland.ch

Around 13% of respondents stated that they use Netflix for a fee. For Swisscom and Spotify, this figure is 8 percent, for Apple Music 6 percent and for AppleVideo (iTunes) 5 percent. However, Netflix in particular also has a high proportion of users who use the service for free via the login of friends or family members.
Differences between age groups
There are also clear differences in usage between the age groups. For example, 25% of young people (up to the age of 25) pay for Netflix, followed by 15% for Spotify and 14% for Swisscom - significantly more than the average.
According to the survey, age differences are not only evident in video services such as Netflix, but also in music streaming: 74% of the 50 to 74 age group do not stream music, compared to 58% of the 26 to 49 age group and only 45% of 19 to 25-year-olds.

Men stream more often
According to the study, video streaming is generally more popular than music streaming, which 64% of respondents do not use at all. Only 29% of those surveyed do not use video streaming at all. In terms of gender, men stream slightly more often than women - although the differences are not significant, according to the study. There is also no real divide in streaming: Western and German-speaking Swiss have similar streaming behavior - apart from the use of individual streaming services, some of which are more popular in one region than another.
