Call for entries for the Cannes Lions Festival

All 16 categories of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity are now open for submissions. The deadline has been moved up to March 28, 2013, with the exception of the «Creative Effectiveness» category, for which the deadline is March 1, 2013.

The Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity is now opening all 16 categories - "Branded Content & Entertainment Lions," "Creative Effectiveness Lions," "Cyber Lions," "Design Lions," "Direct Lions," "Film Craft Lions," "Film Lions," "Press Lions," "Media Lions," "Mobile Lions," "Outdoor Lions," "Promo & Activation Lions," "PR Lions," "Radio Lions," "Titanium & Integrated Lions," and the new "Innovation Lions" category - for submissions.

The deadline for submissions has been submitted from April 19, 2013 to March 28, 2013, with the exception of the Creative Effectiveness category with a submission deadline of March 1, 2013. This will allow the Festival sufficient time to contact participants with questions and have possible changes made. To expedite this process, works should be submitted in a staggered manner if possible. All works submitted online in time will receive a discount of 50 euros per submission, according to a news release.

Innovations in the transmission of data and in the granting of awards

Another innovation concerns the uploading of digital data material. Case studies on video, films and submissions for the category "Film Craft Lions" can now be uploaded free of charge via www.canneslions.com. Other data transmission (CD-ROM, DVD, beam.tv or tape) is no longer possible.

At this year's festival, only media agencies or media departments of full-service agencies will be eligible to win the "Media Agency of the Year Award." Advertising agencies, clients, media providers and third parties can submit their work and win a Media Lion as before, but the involvement of a media agency or media department will be a mandatory field in the entry form.

Another change concerns the "Palme d'Or Award" for the best production company. In the future, in addition to the Film and Craft categories, the accumulated points for submitted works that have been shortlisted or won in the "Branded Content & Entertainment" category will also be included.

Important dates of the Cannes Lions Festival

The Cannes Lions 60th International Festival of Creativity will take place in Cannes from June 16 to June 22, 2013. All winners will be announced during the four award ceremonies.

Monday, June 17 - Creative Effectiveness, Direct, PR, Promo & Activation Lions Awards.
Tuesday, June 18 - Innovation, Media, Mobile, Outdoor Lions Awards
Wednesday, June 19 - Cyber, Design, Press, Radio Lions Awards
Saturday, June 22 - Branded Content & Entertainment, Film, Film Craft, Titanium & Integrated Lions Awards.

Submissions from all categories are exhibited in the Palais des Festivals. Delegates thus have the unique opportunity to marvel at over 30'000 works from the advertising and communications industry around the world.

Deadline for the "Creative Effectiveness" category: March 1, 2013
Deadline for all other categories: March 28, 2013

Saint Paul closes print shop - 50 jobs gone

Saint-Paul is closing its newspaper printing plant at the end of 2014. The reason is the loss of its most important external customer, the Fribourg News. Around 50 jobs will be lost, as the Fribourg-based print shop announced on Wednesday.

Saint-Paul has been printing the daily newspapers Freiburger Nachrichten (FN) and the French-language La Liberté, which it publishes, for over 100 years. At the end of 2012, the FN announced its intention to print its paper on more financially attractive terms from 2014, the statement said. Without FN, the newspaper printing plant could no longer cover its costs. For 2013, the Group agreed on a compromise price with the FN. In 2014, it can also print the FN, but only at the reference price offered by a third company.

This transitional period should allow employees affected by the restructuring to find new jobs. Likewise, Saint-Paul will look for ways to have La Liberté and other papers it produces, such as La Gruyère, printed outside the canton in the future. (SDA)

Comet: Experience true feelings with YB

Komet has designed a new brand identity for the long-standing Bern-based club BSC Young Boys. Under the slogan «More Than Just a Game,» the campaign features portraits of fans and captures their memorable moments with the club.

Whether at matches, out of enthusiasm for sports or as a club member - the claim "Moving Moments" and its imagery are intended to position YB accordingly. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency said that the campaign focuses on authenticity, closeness and the ability to experience true moments of emotion. Instead of staged portraits, the images show real fans at actual matches, as captured live at various YB matches.

The new brand positioning is intended to strengthen the club's close, tangible image and emphasize the communal experience and co-living as part of the YB world. This is also reflected in match and sales communication as well as all customer loyalty measures.

As part of the redesigned communications presence, Komet also revised the club's brand architecture. A unified look for the YB brand and its subbrands, visually representing the club and its branches, was devised. The various communication tools are now in use in print and online.

Responsible at BSC Young Boys: Alain Kappeler (COO), Dominic Eichenberger (Head of Marketing Communications), Roman Schenker (Project Manager MarKom), Daniel Moreno (Polygraf MarKom). Responsible at Komet: Thom Pfister (CD), Roland Zenger (AD), Natalia Funariu (graphics), Antonia Bekiaris, Christoph Albrecht (text), Simon Schatzmann (head of consulting), Emma Isolini (consulting). Crafft launches new website for Limmattal Hospital

Crafft revamped the Spital Limmattal brand in 2012. The new website followed in January. The Zurich-based agency developed it in collaboration with the web agency Divio.

Following last year's revamped image, at the beginning of 2013 Limmattal Hospital launched a complete new website received. Central to the development were the visual impact and the simplicity of the content structure. "A hospital is a complex entity with different target groups such as patients, referring physicians, visitors or job seekers - and they all have their own information needs," says Michael Rütti, Creative Director at Crafft.

The site was technically implemented by Divio. The site offers numerous extras such as the baby gallery with share function on Facebook, a survey, a kind of glossary on the various fields and specialists or the color selection with four different basic colors from the new corporate design. A mobile page is also available. This offers the most important information such as emergency numbers, contact, travel and vacancies at a glance.

SLK reprimands tobacco advertising as sexist

The Swiss Fairness Commission SLK has reprimanded a tobacco advertisement. It is a subtle violation of the dignity of women.

The advertisement in question shows four women of different skin and hair color types, dressed in bikinis of different colors, standing in a semicircle in the water of a swimming pool (Werbewoche.ch reported). Among them were the claim "Variety gives pleasure" and various packages of tobacco products in the corresponding colors of the swimwear. The second chamber of the SLK was of the opinion that because of this claim, the average consumer does not establish a natural, but an unmistakably sexual connection between the models and the advertised products.

As even the respondent has confirmed, the depiction of women only serves the purpose of attracting attention from the male target group. "This subject is therefore sexist advertising within the meaning of Principle No. 3.11," writes the SLK in its statement of reasons. "An advertising exaggeration is not recognizable." It approved the complaint and recommended that the respondent refrain from using this advertising motif in the future.

Certainly, there are women today who like to smoke a cigar. But hardly ever in a swimming pool dressed only in a bikini. If this picture is also entitled with the claim "Variety is fun", it fulfills all the criteria of unfair, sexist advertising, said the SLK about the objectionable advertising.

According to findings of the news agency SDA, the criticized company is Villiger Söhne. The name of the complainant is not disclosed by SLK.
