Pro Campus Press Award goes to Zurich

The Zurich student newspaper ZS beat out 30 competitors to win the 2012 Pro Campus Press Award for the best German-language student newspaper. The deciding factors were the quality of the writing and the newspaper’s keen sense for topics.

The newspaper surprised the jury above all with its refreshing down-to-earth approach. "The editorial team looks around locally and finds exciting topics, which it implements with journalistic standards," jury member Simon Kerbusk, Editor-in-Chief of Zeit Campus, was quoted as saying in the press release issued by the Pro Campus Press Initiative on Tuesday.

The decisive factor for the success was "the passion of our employees for journalism and the commitment of a fully motivated team", said ZS Editorial Director Corsin Zander in an initial reaction. It pays off that the ZS is independent. The Zurich student newspaper is financed exclusively from advertising revenue.

The Pro Campus-Presse Award honors the best campus print media published by students and thus recognizes outstanding journalistic achievements by student university editorial offices. The winners receive a netbook and a professional newspaper review. (SDA)

New agency in Basel: Mé

Andreas Mesmer, Jan Schlomo Knopp, and Nicolas R. Hagenbach are founding Mé — Mesmer Société. Mé is an agency dedicated to “Storytelling Through Design” and aims to take communication to the next level.

"Even the best story lives through the quality of its narrative." True to this principle, the trio combines the power of storytelling with excellent design. "Because people love exciting and beautiful stories - and want to be part of them. We want to tell these stories," says Knopp, the trio's storyteller. The Hamburg native left his agency Karl Anders in Hamburg in 2013 to venture into something new here in Basel together with Mesmer, formerly Mesmer Visual, and Hagenbach (freelance consultant). The three founders chose Basel as their location because each of them is rooted in the city in their own way. In addition, there is no other agency in the region that combines design and storytelling, according to a press release.

Zurich Tokyo blasts Swiss Music Awards

For the sixth consecutive year, Zurich Tokio is responsible for the overall presentation of the Swiss Music Awards. This time, the focus is on the explosive power of music.

On March 1, the Schiffbau Zurich will be the meeting place for local pop culture. The award ceremony with many celebrities and the participation of international acts will be broadcast live by SRF Zwei, Joiz and Rouge TV.

How does a hit come about? What makes a hit? And why are there pieces of music that touch almost everyone, regardless of gender, whether banker or hippie? The Zurich Tokyo agency has taken up these questions and tried to put them into pictures, as it says in a press release. The sound of a slamming car door or the sound of bubbles rising in a pot of boiling water, everything can be inspiration for the artist for rhythm and sound, from which then the longed-for hit emerges.

The TV spot shows the creation of the hit as the band composes a song from the sound and beat of a flickering neon light. Accompanied by a DJ, guitar, keyboard and drums, the sound evolves into a hit and is explosively broadcast to the world. In the other applications such as advertisements, website as well as the stage design, the explosive power of a hit song is further dramatized upon impact with the audience. Because when the music touches, conquers the listener's head and body, they are literally knocked out of their socks and carried away.

Those who succeed in doing so are honored with Switzerland's most important music prize. The urban concrete block specially developed by Zurich Tokyo, which for some artists is the cornerstone of their future success.

Responsible at Swiss Music Awards: Oliver Rosa (Executive Producer), Roy Bula (PR), Josephine Bucher (Backoffice). Responsible at Zurich Tokyo: Daniel Donati (Creative Direction), Raphael Kunz (Art Direction), Mihaly Keserü (Graphics), Sandra Schmid (DTP), Laura Donati (Consulting), Reeto von Gunten (Text), Rosas&Co (Film Production), Peter Bräker (Sound).

By Heart: Sizzling performance for Torino

Camille Bloch has decided to give the Torino brand more freedom and to distinguish its identity more clearly from that of the umbrella brand. To this end, the agency By Heart has created three films.

The Zurich agency, which won the account again last year, developed the new look around the claim "Im Herzen Praliné." The team led by creative director Hans Siegwart has developed three new films designed to dramatize the Torino brand in a romantic and unique way, according to a statement. The focus was on a visual language that strikingly takes the brand's typical elements and gives them a modern feel: Red and black and the crackling paper of the chocolate sticks are the stylistic basic elements of illustrative short stories. The result is, as it were, cinematic posters that give the brand's romantic promise a completely new, powerful expression. The TV campaign will start at the end of February in all three parts of the country.

Responsible at Chocolats Camille Bloch: Heinz Reber (Director Marketing and Sales), David Sommerhalder (Brand Manager). Responsible at By Heart Communication: Hans Siegwart (Creative Director), Markus Bircher (Strategy/Planning), Martin Kurzbein (Art Direction), Cécile Schurtenberger (Consulting). Film production: Encore Pictures; director: Bart Wasem/Neil Stubbings; animation: Neil Stubbings, Bart Wasem, Christian Roggy; producer: Jürg Steudler; music: Michael Ricar; sound design: Federico Bettini, Jingle Jungle.

Gemi January 2013: Adscreen and TV still on the rise

After a strong end to 2012, Adscreen recorded a slight decline in January, but was able to maintain its upward trend. The overall market and electronic media as a whole are stable, as the Goldbach Index (Gemi) shows.

Adscreen closed 2012, which was a positive year for the medium overall, with a clear signal of 643 index points, an impressive increase of 20 points at the end of the year. The slight decline at the beginning of the year should therefore by no means be seen as a downward trend, but rather as an indication that the 640 (643) advertising screens are becoming increasingly established. Fredy Grau, Head of Digital out of Home at Goldbach Media, confirms "The continuous expansion of digital screens is being used by more and more customers". TV also had a strong year: Having started the previous year with 593 index points, TV can now report an index of 621 points, underlining the high closing value of December 2012 at the same level. Radio also remains stable with 417 index points. Teletext lost one index point at 80 (81), while the Internet returned to the values of the fall months at 637 (633).

The overall market and electronic media as a whole are stable: Despite a slight decline in the overall market, electronic media remains stable at 232 (233), up 20 index points on the previous year's figure of 619 (599).

The House Agency: campaign for fashion night

The House Agency developed the communications strategy and activation campaign for the first «Long Night of Fashion» in Zurich. The event will take place on March 21, 2013.

For one night, everything revolves around fashion and lifestyle, with numerous fashion houses presenting their latest spring and summer collections. The House Agency was awarded the contract to develop and implement the overall appearance and integrated communication concept for this fashion event.

According to the press release, the biggest challenge was the development of the central key visual, in which the different styles of the fashion partners and the varied program were to be conveyed in an independent identity with a high recognition value in an understandable and inviting way. In the coming weeks, various measures will be launched to publicize and activate the event: Posters, advertisements and POS advertising materials will create awareness and the digital presences (Web / Mobile) provide detailed and up-to-date information about the program.

Last but not least: Practice-oriented advertising

Inspiring advertising doesn't necessarily have to be funny or entertaining: Mayo Draft FCB, in collaboration with the Technical University of Peru, has installed a billboard that produces drinking water.

The agency has created a particularly practice-oriented campaign for the UTEC (University of Engineering and Technology) in Peru to get young people interested in studying mechanical engineering. The large surface produces water from air, which is collected in 96-liter tanks. At the foot of the oversized poster stand, it is made available to the population free of charge via a tap. The advertising sign is in the right place: Lima is located in the desert, it rarely rains and many inhabitants are in desperate need of clean drinking water. (hae)
