Spina's Civil Voices for Amnesty International: The Pedalo is Full
If a further tightening of the asylum law comes up for a vote on June 9, Amnesty International will also have a significant say in the matter. Its position is clear and unequivocal: No.

In order for this "No" to be seen by as many people as possible and for Amnesty International's position to be expressed, a nationwide campaign is being launched these days. It was designed by Spina's Civil Voices. According to the press release, the campaign advocates a fair and humane asylum policy.
The centerpiece of the campaign is a viral spot that takes the eternal scaremongering of right-wing populist circles for a ride in a funny way. It also satirizes the banned Economiesuisse film by Michi Steiner. Parallel to this, the website End-with-panicmache.ch where the problems of the Swiss asylum policy are discussed in detail.

Internet addresses with .swiss extension as of fall 2014
Those interested in Internet addresses ending in .swiss will probably be able to reserve them in a year and a half. The international administrative body ICANN has approved Switzerland's application for the new domain name extension in principle.

Until the .swiss Internet addresses are available, Switzerland must settle the contractual details with ICANN and prepare the technical infrastructure, as the Federal Office of Communications Bakom announced on Tuesday. The legal framework also still needs to be created. Among other things, it must be clarified who can receive an address with the .swiss extension and under what conditions. In contrast to the .ch ending, a reference to Switzerland is mandatory. This will be decided by the Bakom. (SDA)

The three prizes go to textile designer Martin Leuthold, the designer and architect duo Trix and Robert Haussmann, and graphic designer Armin Hofmann. Videographic portraits of the winners will be shown as part of Design Miami at the Art Basel art fair. By launching the award, the Federal Office of Culture rounds out a package of measures that actively promotes the Swiss design scene, according to the release, supports and appreciates.
Winner Grands Prix Design 2013:
Martin Leuthold, 1952 (Creative Director, Jakob Schlaepfer Textiles, St. Gallen) After training as an embroidery designer, Martin Leuthold joined Jakob Schlaepfer in 1973 as a textile designer, one of the world's leading manufacturers of innovative textiles in the haute couture, prêt-à-porter and interior decoration sectors. Since 1989, Leuthold has been a member of the management board and, as creative director, is responsible for the creation division. In this function, he is involved in the development of numerous new production processes, among other things. The company is regarded as a hub for generations of young textile and fashion designers, who find ideal, laboratory-like conditions here, and in Leuthold a unique mentor and promoter of their talents. His many years of experience and his openness to innovation are instrumental in ensuring that the Jakob Schlaepfer company remains competitive in a rapidly changing market situation and is always able to provide new impetus.
In Martin Leuthold, the Swiss Confederation is honoring a key figure in the Swiss textile industry who knows how to successfully combine the promotion of young talent, innovative strength and international renown, the Federal Office of Culture said in the statement.
Trix and Robert Haussmann, 1933 and 1931 (architects, interior designers and product designers, Zurich) In 1967, the trained interior designer Robert Haussmann and the architect Trix Haussmann (née Högl) founded the "Allgemeine Entwurfsanstalt" in Zurich as an office for planning, interior design and product design. Their spectrum ranged from small utilitarian objects to buildings and conversions to urban planning. Their designs for manufacturers such as Röthlisberger, de Sede, Wogg or Knoll became design classics. They are also known for renowned interior design projects, such as the Kronenhalle bar (Robert Haussmann, 1965) or the underground shopping arcades at Zurich's main train station. Their design practice also includes a critical theoretical examination, of which their teaching pieces, ironic furniture objects of the 1980s, are exemplary.
The Swiss Confederation honors Trix and Robert Haussmann for their remarkable contribution to Swiss design and architectural history. Their committed and reflective questioning of aesthetic conventions was ahead of its time and needs to be rediscovered today, the statement said.
Armin Hofmann, 1920 (graphic designer and teacher, Lucerne) After training as a draftsman and lithographer, Armin Hofmann worked in various studios as a lithographer and designer. From 1947 he taught at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule Basel (later Schule für Gestaltung) in the graphics class, where he developed a teaching method for artistic and design professions that gained widespread recognition. From the mid-1950s, guest professorships followed in the USA, first at the Philadelphia College of Art and later at Yale University, where he taught regularly until 1991, and in India (National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad). In 1967 he was appointed head of the specialist class for commercial art in Basel. His book Methodik der Form- und Buchgestaltung (1965, Niggli Verlag) has established itself as a standard work. Hofmann's iconic poster works for Basel cultural institutions such as the Stadttheater, the Kunsthalle, and the Gewerbemuseum form a major contribution to the Swiss Style, which is recognized worldwide. His design work also includes signets, books, color concepts, orientation systems, and art on buildings.
In Armin Hofmann, the Swiss Confederation is honoring one of the defining figures of Swiss graphic design, as well as a teacher and lecturer who has had a lasting influence on generations of graphic designers and teachers in Switzerland and abroad, according to the Federal Office of Culture.

The campaign's core message: It can happen to anyone. Anyone can help. The result is the "Share if you Care" campaign, which uses five online spots to draw attention to these very issues. At the same time, it gives every platform visitor the opportunity to actively support patients in their recovery process by simply "sharing" the spots, according to a statement. The focus of the online spots is not on the accident itself, but on the very personal moments within the lengthy rehabilitation process, from which those affected regained hope.
The heart of the campaign is the Suva Facebook pagewhere every user can watch the online spots and is asked to do good with a click, forward the films and thus give personal expression to the "everyone can help" aspect. In order to strengthen this commitment on the part of the platform visitors, all patients of Bellikon will receive a personal recovery card from the Brändi Foundation when they reach 5,000 shares and a bouquet of flowers from Migros Florissimo as a real benefit when they reach 10,000 shares. If 15,000 shares of the online spots are reached, the Swiss musician Seven will give an exclusive and equally personal concert at the Bellikon rehabilitation clinic.

Last but not least: The Big Court Lottery
Media seats for the NSU trial in Munich were assigned by lottery and announced today. Actually, this isn't really a laughing matter...

April 29, 2013
Fifty seats are available to the press for the highly publicized NSU trial. These were all allocated within a few hours—to German media representatives. This was because all Turkish and most international media outlets were unfamiliar with the seemingly common «first come, first served» system (also known as the «first-come, first-served» procedure), which had not been communicated in advance. The outrage was particularly intense in Turkish circles, as all of the victims of the right-wing terrorists were of Turkish descent. Politicians from both sides intervened, and the newspaper Sabah successfully secured four seats for the Turkish media through legal action. The trial was ultimately postponed to allow for a new accreditation process. Five seats were allocated by lottery to domestic and foreign news agencies, and ten seats to foreign-language media. The remaining 35 seats were allocated by lottery among German media representatives.
The result, which was announced today, was met with incredulous head-shaking. The major national daily newspapers—the *Süddeutsche Zeitung*, *Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung*, *Die Welt*, and *Die Tageszeitung*—were left out. Among those that fared better were quality media outlets such as Bild, RTL 2, Kabel 1, the Lübecker Nachrichten, and… Brigitte! The announcement that the women’s magazine would serve as a trial observer sparked schadenfreude, disbelief, and horror. Shortly thereafter, the Facebook group «FDP Liberté» posted a fictional Brigitte cover featuring Beate Zschäpe as the «cover girl» widespread («Trend Color: Brown»).
The reactions from the newspapers that were passed over were not long in coming. Taz is reportedly seeking to secure a video broadcast (a solution that the Turkish media had rejected after the initial award). According to reports, the Springer publications *Welt* and *Faz* believe that W&V is considering legal action. This time, press seats may be made available to other accredited journalists—though those who didn’t win the lottery shouldn’t get their hopes up too much about getting a “Brigitte” ticket: Of course, Brigitte will make use of the space, according to a statement from the Facebook page. Coverage of the NSU trial has already begun… with an article about Zschäpe’s attorney: Zschäpe's attorney: «I can easily handle the anger». Whether Brigitte felt the wrath of the one who had been kicked Shitstorms It remains to be seen whether it can handle it with ease. By the way: Representing Switzerland is the NZZ.
The winners of the second Facebook Studio Awards have been announced. With Jung von Matt/Limmat, the German-speaking region is also represented among the gold winners.

The most successful campaigns this year were those that focused on creative storytelling and interactions with fans, according to a statement from Facebook. "The entries for the Facebook Studio Awards reflect the concentrated, global creativity of campaigns on Facebook. We see that more and more advertisers and agencies understand how to implement creative communications on Facebook for their target audiences. We are particularly pleased that Jung von Matt/Limmat is once again a winner from the umbrella region," says F. Scott Woods, Commercial Director Facebook Umbrella.
Compared to last year, not only has the quality of the entries improved significantly, but the award has also become much more international: This year, well over 1,000 campaigns were submitted from 59 countries. A total of 19 Facebook Studio Awards were presented, and there was once again a winning campaign from the German-speaking region: "A Little Village goes Global" by Jung von Matt/Limmat from Zurich won gold. The highest honor, the "Blue" Award, went to Draftfcb and 360i for the "Oreo Daily Twist" campaign for food manufacturer Mondelez International.
With the campaign "A Little Village goes Global", Jung von Matt/Limmat wanted to boost tourism in the small Swiss mountain village of Obermutten and emphasize the personal, individual (Werbewoche.ch reported). On the Facebook page, Obermutten promised that a picture of everyone who clicked "Like" would be printed out and pinned to the village bulletin board. Photos of the bulletin board were then posted back to Facebook - taking the little village around the world. Thanks to the campaign and the coverage it received, more than 60 million people around the world have heard about Obermutten.
