A year and a half after being acquired by the Zurich-based agency Jim & Jim, the media and marketing agency Studimedia is strategically expanding its services and undergoing a comprehensive rebranding.

Under the new Youthmedia brand, the core disciplines of media planning, product, university and HR marketing as well as employer branding and recruiting are being expanded to include expertise in the areas of influencer marketing, native advertising and RTB ads. Newly designed media pools enable a more targeted project and product-related approach to generations Y and Z. With the expansion of its offering, Youthmedia offers nationwide media and personal contact with Swiss young people and students aged between 12 and 30.

The agency Studimedia, which was acquired in 2015 and still specialized purely in student marketing at the time, has developed strongly under Jim & Jim over the past one and a half years and built up a prestigious client portfolio with brands such as Heineken, Procter & Gamble, Zweifel and Zurich Insurance. In addition to services such as employer branding, recruiting, university and personnel marketing and media planning, Youthmedia now also offers comprehensive support in the areas of influencer marketing as well as native and RTB advertising. To underline the expansion of expertise, the company is also giving itself a new look and is now operating under the "Youthmedia - Reach NextGen" brand.

Together with its parent agency Jim & Jim, Youthmedia has an extensive and continuously growing roster of young digital influencers from the lifestyle, beauty, sports, fashion and gaming sectors. At the same time, a nationwide network of lecturers and course directors from various German-speaking Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences has been established, which maintains a direct line to hundreds of thousands of students and thus covers requests for company projects, the assignment of master's theses, graduate programs and human resources topics. It is now also possible to segment the young target group clearly. Using a variety of media pools, young people can be targeted according to courses of study or consumer groups such as millennials, as well as according to their favorite leisure activities.

"Studimedia and Jim & Jim have been mutually beneficial over the past year and a half. Existing 'Jim & Jim' customers have benefited from the expanded services and direct access to universities. Studimedia benefited from Jim & Jim's exclusive network and expertise in addressing generations Y and Z. With the expansion of the offering and the rebranding, the realignment is finally complete and 'Youthmedia' is a company with a sharp profile, a clear vision and a unique offering on the Swiss market," explains Fabio Emch, Managing Partner at Jim & Jim.

Youthmedia is now available under the new website Youthmedia.ch reachable.

Press Council: Rumors must be verified

The Swiss Press Council reprimands an article in the NZZ am Sonntag: In it, author Milena Moser had written that a yoga teacher had preached celibacy but had himself set up a kind of harem.

NZZ-Mediengruppe_teaser_1

The Press Council criticizes the newspaper for spreading a rumor without checking it. Anyone who publishes a rumor must first verify it. The Swiss Press Council recalls this principle in a statement published on Friday.

In the article "Der Unterleib des Gurus" (The abdomen of the guru), which was published in May 2015, the author had not given her sources. In response to a reader's inquiry, NZZ am Sonntag informed the reader that the allegations were facts, as the Press Council writes. These would - where not specifically stated - come "from various international media (New York Times, etc.)". In the present case, the newspaper and the author of the article "obviously did not check the source of the rumor," the Press Council states. This violated the journalists' code of conduct.

As the Press Council further states in its statement, the NZZ am Sonntag had resorted to "an original argument". It claimed that Milena Moser was a writer and not a journalist. The journalist code was therefore not applicable.

"In times when it is normal for athletes, film actors and craftsmen to write regular columns in media products, this argument must be weighed more closely," the Press Council states. However, it concludes that "it is irrelevant whether a journalist, a writer or the janitor of the NZZ draws the article." (SDA)

Valais State Councillor Jean-Michel Cina becomes new SRG President

Jean-Michel Cina, a CVP State Councilor from Valais, will become the new president of the SRG on May 1, 2017. He was elected on Friday by the extraordinary assembly of delegates to succeed outgoing President Viktor Baumeler, the SRG announced.

Unbenannt-10_5

The delegates thus followed the proposal of the Board of Directors. They had chosen an "experienced personality with a network of contacts in politics and business," SRG writes. The 53-year-old lawyer and notary stands "for the federalism of Switzerland and the SRG". Cina will take office on May 1, 2017, and will then replace Baumeler as President of SRG.

The Valais native has a successful career as a politician at cantonal and federal level, the statement continues. Among other things, he was a member of the National Council from 1999 to 2005 and has been Director of Economic Affairs for the canton of Valais since 2005. He currently presides over the Conference of Cantonal Governments (KdK). Cina graduated from the University of Bern with a degree in law and was admitted to the bar and notary's office of the Canton of Valais. He is married and has two children.

Jean-Michel Cina is looking forward to his future task: "I am a convinced representative of the public service," Cina is quoted as saying in the media release. It is "an honor, but also a responsibility to be President of the public media company SRG. All the more so at a time when this institution is facing up to the upheaval in the media.

Baumeler had been elected president at the end of November 2015. It was envisaged that he would hold the office until a definitive successor was found, but until 2017 at the longest. This solution followed the resignation of former SRG President Raymond Loretan in summer 2015. (SDA)

Starting shot for APG|SGA promotion

The Center of Excellence for Interactive Live Communication is now marketing advertising and promotional space at SBB train stations.

APGSGA_Promotion_Logo_0

APG|SGA Promotion will take over the organization and implementation of promotions in 170 SBB stations on July 1, 2016. An experienced team of specialists is exclusively responsible for consulting and booking and accompanies the implementation of the individual promotions. Advertising customers benefit from additive offers in a growing area of out-of-home media as well as multiple execution options at various mobility hotspots.

APGSGA

As a national competence center for interactive live communication, APG|SGA Promotion will operate throughout Switzerland from Zurich. A new consulting and sales unit with a total of five specialists - including two former SBB employees - has been set up to look after the advertising market. They are headed by Ernst Fuhrer, who also manages the successful APG|SGA Mega Poster segment brand.

The range of services includes the rental of highly frequented locations for commercial brand staging in various dimensions as well as temporary pop-up stores on promotion areas. The range of services is supplemented by the organization of commercial or non-material distribution campaigns in the midst of commuter flows. In addition to the exclusive leasing of large and small SBB locations, APG|SGA Promotion provides advice and support to clients and agencies with less promotional experience. In the medium term, existing synergies are to be exploited and expanded in order to soon be able to offer multiple execution options in other communication spaces such as public transport, airports, shopping centers or the mountains.

SBB Immobilien and APG|SGA are intensifying their successful, long-standing partnership with the new competence center. Both companies are convinced that a substantial increase in added value can be achieved through synergies with other outdoor advertising products and by embedding them in a large sales network. The advertising market will benefit from a comprehensive out-of-home range of products and services, which will now create an immediate, haptic and interactive relationship with the end product.
The product event in the hall at Zurich main station, will be marketed by SBB as before.

The first step in the right direction

On Friday in Bern, the Swiss Communications Association presented 57 new communications planners with their Swiss professional certificates.

Urs Schneider, Chairman of the Examination Board, congratulated the graduates and encouraged the young professionals to continue their training.

Of a total of 72 candidates from all over Switzerland, 82% from German-speaking Switzerland and 66% from French-speaking Switzerland passed the federal examination this year. They proved that they have mastered the three main subjects "Communication Planning", "Media" and "Production" even under pressure. In his graduation speech, Urs Schneider outlined the most important developments in the communications industry in recent years - from the invention of the Internet in 1993 to the launch of Google in 1998 and the first iPhone in 2007. He made it clear that these are not short-term trends, but lasting progress. It is therefore important to always stay "on the ball". With this professional examination, the newly qualified communication planners have taken the first step in the right direction. This opens the door to a varied career in the advertising market. He also entered the advertising industry a long time ago with this professional examination.

Flowers and gifts for the best

Four graduates from German-speaking Switzerland shone this year with an average grade of over 5.0. The best result in Switzerland was achieved by Nadine Kradolfer from Spiez with a strong final grade of 5.3, followed by Sara Hübscher (Zug) and Anja Roy (Schlierbach) in second place with a grade of 5.2. Dino Amantea from Baden also made it onto the podium with a score of 5.1. In French-speaking Switzerland, Diego Mediano from Lausanne achieved the best average of 4.9. The graduation ceremony took place at the traditional 5-star Hotel Schweizerhof in Bern. After the presentation of the certificates, those present were treated to an aperitif riche.

In future, she will support the candidates to the best of her ability and assist the two examination supervisors Roland Ehrler in German-speaking Switzerland and Michel Repond in French-speaking Switzerland. The next CP examinations will take place in spring 2017.

Seven winners at the Swiss Packaging Award 2016

For the 47th time, the SVI held the Swiss Packaging Award, honoring the six most innovative packaging designs. The People's Choice Award went to Victorinox.

Unbenannt-4_8

49 packaging solutions took part this year. 18 entries were nominated, of which six packaging won the Swiss Packaging Award. In addition, the Audience Award was presented, which is voted for by consumers.

The Swiss Packaging Award packaging competition was again a great success with 49 entries from 31 companies. After a two-day voting process in April, the jury nominated 18 packages and selected six winners. In addition, the public prize was awarded. Winning a Swiss Packaging Award enables participation in the international packaging competition World Star.

"Victorinox Swiss Army Rock" wins audience award

The Audience Award 2016 was again won by Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrances AG, this time with the "Victorinox Swiss Army Rock" perfume packaging. The Victorinox Swiss Army Rock packaging uses natural stone as a cosmetic packaging element for the first time. Inspired by the Swiss mountain massifs, the Victorinox emblem made of real slate stone was applied to the bottle. The biggest challenge was to cut the Victorinox emblem from a thin slate in such a way that clean edges are created and the emblem does not break.

Swiss Packaging Award - the competition for the best packaging

With this Swiss Packaging Award, the Swiss Packaging Institute SVI honors outstanding achievements in packaging. The aim of the competition is to showcase the creativity and innovative strength of the Swiss packaging industry. Thus, the award represents the flagship of the industry. Participants benefit from the opportunity to present themselves as a company to a broad public. Taking part is worthwhile: a win or nomination brings the company a high level of attention and also confirms its own performance and motivates its employees.

Last but not least: Audi vs. BMW

At the New York International Auto Show, Audi put its rival BMW in its place—via Wi-Fi.

Unbenannt-9_6
The fact that people use the names of WLAN networks to get rid of messages is actually nothing new. For example, people who live in densely populated urban areas and receive nice greetings from their neighbors via the network selection know this.

Unbenannt-8_122

What is new, however, is that advertising uses this channel. Or at least in the intensity that the agency Muh-Tay-Zik San Francisco displayed to promote the new Audi A4. Since there is a chronic lack of WLAN at the New York International Auto Show and the existing networks of the manufacturers are too weak, the agency laid a very fast line and set up very strong routers. They ran numerous networks over it and named each one with an argument as to why the A4 should be better than the BMW 328i. Thanks to initial character _A4, the networks always appeared at the top when one of the 1'000'000 visitors was looking for Wifi.

Unbenannt-9_114

Of course, the fun only works as long as the competition doesn't jump on the bandwagon. And as long as you are in a country where comparative advertising is allowed. (hae)

Mike A. Weber becomes project manager at media research joint venture

Mike A. Weber will become project manager for the «Swiss Media Data Hub» joint venture planned by Wemf and Mediapulse. The former Head of Strategic Projects at Swisscom will assume his new role effective August 2, 2016.

Portrait_Mike-A-Weber-L_0

At the end of April 2016, the boards of directors of Wemf and Mediapulse decided that the two industry research organizations would engage in the "Swiss Media Data Hub" project for the realization of a joint, equally managed company. At the core of the assignment is the establishment and design of an organization jointly supported by Wemf and Mediapulse for comprehensive, cross-genre data procurement, processing and analysis of online-based media usage data. The previous online research of Net-Metrix AG is to be transferred to the joint venture by the end of 2017. Under the leadership of Marco Bernasconi, CEO Wemf, and Franz Bürgi, Managing Director Mediapulse, work on the "Swiss Media Data Hub" project was launched in recent weeks.

Transfer from Net-Metrix

With Mike A. Weber, the project management of the "Swiss Media Data Hub" will be significantly strengthened with a proven doer and expert in digital business fields and transformation processes. In addition to a formative role in project management, Mike A. Weber will be tasked in particular with the operational development of the planned joint venture and will also ensure the optimal transfer of Net-Metrix into the new organization. Mike A. Weber will take over these functions as early as August 2, 2016.

Franziska von Weissenfluh, Chairman of the Board of Mediapulse, is convinced: "With Mike A. Weber, the project is gaining a powerful driver and navigator with outstanding knowledge and management experience in digital business fields. His commitment is both an important signal to the market and a key prerequisite for the successful outcome of our joint venture." Mike A. Weber himself emphasized the great opportunity of the project for the Swiss market in the run-up to his involvement: "Convergent media usage also requires a convergent media currency. The silo thinking that has prevailed up to now must give way to a strategic overall view and take account of the increasing decoupling of advertising media and advertising media. There is agreement among the major market players that the "Swiss Media Data Hub" should form an overall concept for a uniform, convergent and thus comparable currency research as well as media currency in Switzerland. It's a matter of making joint use of this 'historic' opportunity!"

First mover and pioneer in the Swiss mobile business

Born in Zurich, Mike A. Weber has many years of management experience in the digital business sector and is considered a pioneer in the Swiss mobile business. As Head of Strategic Projects at PubliGroupe Ltd., Mike A. Weber was entrusted by Swisscom with the co-project management of the joint venture company Admeira. Furthermore, the innovative doer is co-founder and Managing Director of the memorial portal Remember Forever. Weber has also held management positions as Head of Mobile Business at Adlink Internet Media and Managing Director at Aktivmobile Media. He has held management positions in marketing and communications at Swisscom Mobile (CCO) and at Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund Zurich (Head of Advertising Non-Food) and previously worked as a consultant for well-known communications agencies. Mike A. Weber is also active and influential in the industry on a part-time basis. He is a CAS lecturer at the universities of Zurich and Lucerne, a jury member for renowned industry awards, and co-founder and vice president of smama (the swiss mobile association).
