Namics: UBS app wins Mobile Web Award

The UBS Mobile Banking app, co-developed by Namics, won an award in the «Best Bank Mobile Application» category at the 2013 Mobile Web Awards.

The American Web Marketing Association has been awarding prizes for outstanding Internet projects since 1997. Since 2012, the best mobile applications and platforms have also been honored with the Mobile Web Award. This year, the UBS Mobile Banking App leads the international competition.

After winning bronze at this year's Best of Swiss Apps Award the UBS Mobile Banking App 3.0 has now also won the Mobile Web Award in the category "Best Bank Mobile Application". The award-winning app was judged primarily on its broad range of state-of-the-art functionalities, including the particularly practical payment and investment options. The visual design and excellent user experience were highlighted as differentiating features of the award-winning app. According to the jury, this standout application experience is based primarily on UBS's meticulous collaboration with its partners Namics and frog design.

In addition to the new design for the updated app version, Namics developed an innovative and user-friendly interface with fast and direct navigation. The technical implementation was carried out in cooperation with Adnovum as well as UBS. "The renewed award for the UBS Mobile App is a nice confirmation that together with our client UBS we have further developed an innovative and respected solution for their mobile customer service," comments Jürg Stuker, CEO of Namics, on the success at the Mobile Web Award.

Andreas Kubli, Head of Multichannel Management & Digitization at UBS: "We are very pleased that we were able to win the race with our enhanced mobile banking app among the projects submitted worldwide. The renewed award for our customer-focused mobile offering, which impresses with the highest security standards in addition to comprehensive service and product integrations, underscores our path to becoming Switzerland's leading multi-channel bank."

Last but not least: computer virus vs. HI virus

AIDS is no longer a major focus of public attention. In some countries, however, this would be sorely needed. One agency took the term “AIDS” literally and programmed a computer virus.

While the AIDS campaigns of earlier decades still shaped entire generations, the topic has now largely disappeared from the daily flood of information. What has stuck in people's minds are media releases about ever-improving medication and the fact that Aids is no longer a death sentence. Unattractive, but not so bad. This "increasing banalization" annoys Aids Hilfe Schweiz and prompts it to issue a new campaign called "For a Switzerland without AIDS". In 2013, every one of the 600 newly diagnosed HIV patients and 50 AIDS deaths each year is one too many.

The great slogans of days gone by are still so present in this country, at least to a large part of society, that they can be recycled like old clothes:

This is not the case everywhere in the world. Not only in Africa. In Haiti, two percent of the population is HIV-positive. Time to make the danger heard again. The Brazilian agency Loducca had the idea of spreading the message in the same way that AIDS does: with a virus. Not one that attacks the immune system, but a computer virus on a good mission. Whoever wants the Core virus "installed", accepts that he will send an email to all contacts in the address book. Content: A description of the problem in Haiti and a reference to Kore, the first condom designed in Haiti and labeled in the local language. It was produced by the company Sir Richard's Condoms, which distributes a condom free of charge in Haiti with every Kore sale. (hae)

Students protest against UBS sponsorship

On Tuesday, numerous students demonstrated in front of the main building of the University of Zurich against the sponsorship agreement between the University of Zurich and the major bank UBS.

Among other things, they called for the contract to be terminated and academic freedom to be restored. The protesters marched from the university via Niederdorf towards Paradeplatz in the afternoon, as one participant told the news agency SDA. The rally was called by the Association for Critical Politics at the University and ETH Zurich (kriPo), among others. According to the association, the CHF 100 million contract confirms fears that the private sector will be granted access to teaching and research in the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zurich, as it writes in a press release. This would privatize education and subject it to profit interests.

The protest was also supported by the Juso Canton Zurich, as announced in the evening. The party is calling for "credible and comprehensive regulations for the acquisition of third-party funding at public educational institutions" at cantonal and national level. The rules should make both excessive advertising platforms and ties to research and teaching content impossible. (SDA)

Cavegnwerbung: B2B Mailing as self-promotion

Markus Cavegn created a B2B mailing for his agency, demonstrating that Cavegnwerbung is a classic in its purest form.

After many years in the large creative networks, Markus Cavegn founded his own agency in 2001, reduced and to the point, as the smallest possible advertising agency. Cavegnwerbung is an efficient one-man operation with full service, the best contacts and in the tradition of creative advertising.

The agency is continuing this tradition in this year's self-promotional mailing. The famous presentation coffins from GGK were used in mini format. A classic concentrate. For a small agency committed to a great tradition. According to the press release, they perfectly symbolize the way Cavegnwerbung works and present the small agency and its attitude even before the presentation starts.

Leo Burnett: Woz monitors intelligence

The Woz kept an eye on Markus Seiler, the head of the intelligence service. And made him an attractive offer in the Leo Burnett ad. The intelligence service smiles—but remains silent.

On December 5, the special issue of Woz on data protection, surveillance and other privacy-related topics will be published. Here, too, the Woz reports in a well-founded manner and from all angles. After all, it has done its own surveillance - namely the country's top watchdog, Mr. Markus Seiler, head of the federal intelligence service. With a very special offer, the left-wing weekly is now making noise around the special edition: In the event that the head of the intelligence service wants to prevent the revelations about his person, he should simply buy up the entire circulation. Which would leave Mr. Seiler, with a taxable income of 196,700 francs, in the clear.

The Woz has also launched a website in Seiler's name. On the page "Markus Seiler - my true story" (see link above), texts, photos and videos have been published on Seiler's origins and career, on Seiler's private life, and even - staged as a chase - on Seiler's driving style.

Initiate discussion

The goal of the research was to "know what you can find out about a person without letting them know you want to find out anything about them," the Woz writes in an article the paper published on its website Wednesday. "This is the method of the intelligence services with their blanket, preventive surveillance," the Woz writes. It said the tables have been turned and the method applied to the intelligence chief. Surveillance is done with the latest technological means and puts the whole population under general suspicion.

Intelligence service silent

The NDB was still buzzing on the executive floor on Wednesday evening. "We are not commenting on this story at all," said FIS communications chief Felix Endrich when asked whether the intelligence service was planning to take legal action against WOZ. In the DDPS, which includes the intelligence service, however, the Woz action was noted with a smile. Seiler did not accept the offer to buy out the entire task of the left-wing newspaper. "Mr. Seiler has let the glorious opportunity to do so pass," Stefan Howald of the Woz told the SDA news agency. (PD/SDA)

NXC takes over marketing agency Ground 15

NXC Switzerland, a Lausanne-based company specializing in open-source solutions, has announced the acquisition of the Zurich-based digital marketing agency Ground 15.

The merger will come into effect in December 2013 and, according to the press release, emphasizes NXC's intention to position itself in Switzerland as one of the leading companies in the field of decision support systems based on data-driven analysis (big data). Such systems enable companies to simulate and predict customer behavior. NXC has held a 60 percent stake in Ground15 since July 2012. The marketing agency is now being fully integrated into NXC Zurich. The company will then be represented in Lausanne and Zurich and will be managed by Cindy Guignard, currently CEO of NXC Switzerland.

In order to meet the growing demand from companies for IT solutions, NXC relies on a big data approach with the integration of decision-making tools. This enables companies to simulate and predict the consumer behavior of their target group. With more than 15 years of experience in "digital activation" (a method for digitizing communication in companies) and comprehensive technological expertise, Ground 15 NXC opens up new paths and solutions in the field of digital advertising. Cindy Guignard, CEO of NXC Switzerland: "By joining forces, we can offer clients in the B2C sector and public administrations tools to better understand their customers' interests and intentions. This enables companies and organizations to optimize their business and success strategies."

The merger with Ground 15 is a first step in the Group's expansion strategy in Switzerland. NXC is convinced that these tools, which are already being used in the B2C sector, can also be used successfully in public administrations. "The decision support tools we have developed are also of interest to public institutions - for example in the field of ecology, because knowledge of residents' behavior makes it possible to implement solutions that deliver a better quality of life in the long term," explains Cindy Guignard in a press release.

Pink for Amag and VW: TV spot for the anniversary

Volkswagen has been present in Switzerland for 65 years. Amag has been distributing the long-established brand here for just as long. Rosarot created a TV commercial to mark the anniversary.

The agency took the nostalgic aspect of the VW ad subjects from the 1960s and transported it into the present as an independent story. The TV spot shows a "Golden Ager" sitting in his own four walls in front of a cozy fireplace, fitting for the cold season. He is reminiscing and enjoying a photo album. It quickly becomes clear that it is not about his own family history, but about the 65 years of Volkswagen Switzerland that he shares with the brand and associates with fond memories. The story illustrates in a simple way the decades-long bond between customers and the traditional VW brand and one of the most important brand values: intrinsic value.

The TV spot can currently be seen on various Swiss TV stations and in the Swiss advertising windows of foreign TV stations.

Responsible at Amag: Cristina Feijoo (Trade Marketing). Responsible at Rosarot: René Karrer (creative direction), Andreas Steiner (concept, text), Yolanda Lopez (art direction), Pascal Knill (consulting), Sandra Brandenberger (graphics). Responsible at Iguana Productions: Daniela Zwahlen (producer), Toni Krebs (director), Ralph Baetschmann (camera), David Satz (lighting), Felix Balke (editor), Jürgen Kupka (color grading), Patrick Böhler (sound design).
