Kreienbühl and Vogler: Celebrate Christmas despite accident

The Kreienbühl and Vogler agency has created a holiday-themed campaign for Suva.

This year, Suva employees are once again foregoing a Christmas present and donating the amount earmarked for this purpose to an institution that cares for the seriously injured. In Switzerland, more than 25,000 employees have serious accidents every year. This year, the amount will go to the "Landscheide" residential home in the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden.

The fact that an accident should not prevent anyone from celebrating Christmas can be seen in the subject created by Kreienbühl and Vogler. The motif is currently used as a Suva Christmas card and in the electronic media.

Responsible at Suva: Daniela Bassi (Head of Communications), Urs Schaad (Head of Marketing Communications), Mirjam Birrer, Siegrun Krayer (Communications Consulting). Responsible at Kreienbühl and Vogler advertising agency: Reto Vogler, Oli Kreienbühl, Marco Donada, Fabian Schiltknecht; Oliver Nanzig (photography), Patrik Rohner (image editing); mitLinks (web programming).

Media Focus: Swiss advertising market lagging behind

In November 2013, the Swiss advertising market generated 477 million francs in advertising revenue. This represents a decline of 4.8 percent (-23.9 million francs) compared with November 2012.

In the full-year perspective, the advertising statistics are also down 0.8 percent (-33.9 million Swiss francs) on the previous year at 4.37 billion Swiss francs.

Cosmetics + Toiletries in the red

The "Cosmetics + Toiletries" sector recorded a 26 percent (-10.8 million Swiss francs) year-on-year decline in advertising print in November 2013. Looking at the year as a whole, the industry reported 14.7 percent (-53.5 million Swiss francs) lower advertising print than a year ago.

Only the "Fragrances" (+0.7 million Swiss francs), "Hair Removal + Shaving" (+0.1 million Swiss francs) and "Image, Internet and Product Range Advertising" (+1.2 million Swiss francs) submarkets of the "Cosmetics + Toiletries" sector recorded an increase in advertising pressure in November 2013. However, these areas were far from able to eradicate the decline in the sector. The decline in advertising volume can be attributed to the three submarkets "Hair Care", "Cosmetics" and "Oral Care". These all suffered losses averaging 2.3 million Swiss francs compared with November 2012.

Online services in high

Compared with the same month of the previous year, the "services" sector recorded an increase of 7.7 percent in November 2013 (+1.6 million Swiss francs). The positive development of this industry in November 2013 is attributable solely to the "online service" submarket. The advertising presence of this submarket increased by 51.6 percent (+3.4 million Swiss francs) in November 2013 compared to the previous year.

To position itself for the Christmas season, the company Ricardo.ch went all out in November with advertising for its online platforms Ricardo.ch and Ricardolino.ch. Among other things, the auction platform ricardo.ch achieved the highest gross value print (2.0 million Swiss francs) in the "online services" submarket in November with the slogan "Sofort geht anders! Only slightly lower, at CHF 1.9 million, was the advertising print for the campaign "Gratis inserieren. Einfach Verkaufen" campaign for the ricardolino.ch platform. These high advertising volumes also enabled the two platforms to rank among the top 10 most advertised products in November 2013.

Last but not least: Jeep, Jeep, hooray

Leo Burnett France has impressed with a remarkable print campaign for Jeep.

For Jeep, the claim "See whatever you want to see" alludes to the terrain-independent freedom of an off-road vehicle. You drive wherever you feel like going. To the mountain top or into the forest. Gravel or snow, swamp or sand. At least that was the original intended use of SUVs. The Jeep brand not only stands for adventure, nature and freedom, but is still used by many people today as a generic synonym for off-road vehicles. The fact that most Jeeps today only know rough and tumble from hearsay does nothing to change this. Their territory is school parking lots and shopping arcades. The off-road image has remained and is reinforced by Leo Burnett's nature-oriented campaign. The freedom to see what you want is granted not only to the Jeep driver, but also to the viewer:

Leo Burnett: Well-researched advertising for the Woz

Week after week, the weekly newspaper Woz covers a wide variety of topics. But the articles always have one thing in common: they’re the result of extensive research, as Leo Burnett demonstrates.

And with advertising that is unusually unadvertising: under the motto "Researched down to the last detail. Even our advertising." you learn a lot about each advertising medium. In this way, you finally get to know the employees who help make advertising visible in the first place. The APG employee who has put up a poster with his short portrait likes driving in his job and is a passionate mushroom picker in his spare time. The viewer of the advertisement also learns that the 23-year-old printer of the advertisement is a passionate fan of The Mars Volta and has no problem with night shifts.

The entertaining portraits were created in the same way as every Woz article: through intensive research. The two journalists Timo Posselt and Jan Jirat met the people in question and tried to find out as much as possible about them in lengthy interviews - with success, as the interviews prove. You can read them in full on woz.ch.

Responsible at the weekly newspaper: the collective of the Woz. Responsible at Leo Burnett Switzerland: Pablo Schencke, Johannes Raggio, Peter Brönnimann (creation), Nino Zuberbühler (consulting).

Theme month "The Swiss" polarizes

Opinions on the SRF's «The Swiss» theme month are divided within the SRG Deutschschweiz Audience Council. Among other things, critics have raised concerns about the selection of the main characters, the lack of female representation, and the information provided to the audience.

This writes the audience council in a statement on Tuesday. One half of the watch group thought the characters in the four docu-fiction films, the centerpiece of the theme month, were convincingly portrayed with their strengths and weaknesses. The other half thought the characters were "pathetically overdrawn." For a majority on the council, it was "hard to understand why there are no female historical figures." This shortcoming was not compensated for by other programs in which women were also portrayed, the report continues. The Council expects that in the future women "will naturally appear in the content and form of SRF's offerings." A minority criticized the choice of characters. The focus was too much on the powerful and myths. Important political aspects were missing.

Discoveries in the additional offer

Two programs on historical female personalities, "Sternstunde Philosophie," the animated series "Helveticus" for children and young people, the documentary "Image Problem," and the video series from Radio SRF 3 on the online portal "Mein Leben - meine Schweiz" (My Life - My Switzerland) stood out positively in the additional offerings of the theme month. For the Audience Council, the abundance of offerings in the theme month was "at the upper limit" - not least because many programs were also labeled "The Swiss" that did not provide any additional service. In the view of the Audience Council, SRG and SRF should have better informed the audience in the run-up to and during the theme month. (SDA)

Press Council: Limits of interview agreements

Are media professionals required to resubmit authorized quotes for authorization after translating them into another language? No, according to the Press Council.

Doing so, however, is fair and prevents misunderstandings. Interview agreements that give the interviewee complete control over the content of an article beyond the counter-reading of quotations are disregarded in terms of professional ethics.

In February 2013, the law magazine Plädoyer took over a portrait of the lawyer and UBS board member Isabelle Romy from its French-language sister magazine Plaidoyer, which the editorial team adapted in some points for the German-speaking Swiss readership. The person portrayed complained to the Press Council that Plaidoyer had violated the rules of inter vivos because the editorial team had used an earlier version of the article instead of the text authorized by Romy.

In its statement, the Press Council points out that editorial offices are not obliged to resubmit already authorized quotes for authorization after translating them into another language. Nevertheless, it was fair to do so in order to prevent misunderstandings. Based on the conduct of the editors, the complainant had been entitled to assume that the version of the text she had edited would be used for publication. Comparing the two versions, the Press Council concludes,
that the editorial department had essentially adhered to this agreement. In any case, it would be going too far for the complainant to assume that she retained complete control over the content of the portrait beyond the proofreading and authorization of quotations.

Political campaign of a consumer magazine

Did the consumer magazine Bon à Savoir force a staff member to write favoritism articles for the popular initiative "Pro Service Public" and did it fire him because he complained to the Press Council about it? For the Press Council, neither the one nor the other is created.

In March 2012, Bon à Savoir joined other consumer magazines in launching the popular initiative "Pro Service Public. Since then, the magazine has reported on it in every issue. At the end of June 2013, an employee of "Bon à Savoir" complained to the Swiss Press Council about the one-sided reporting in favor of the initiative. The complainant, who was dismissed after the summer vacations, specifically raises the issue of whether the publisher can force a journalist to write such articles. The editor-in-chief of Bon à Savoir replied that the articles on the popular initiative were written by a group of volunteers, of which the complainant had also initially been a member. His wish to leave the group had been respected within a short period of time.
Moreover, Bon à Savoir had always been politically active. Finally, the complainant's dismissal had nothing to do with the Press Council complaint, but was rather due to ongoing differences of opinion about the editorial orientation of "Bon à Savoir".

The Press Council rejects the complaint. The reports on the popular initiative were not purely PR texts and were also marked with the appropriate logo. Readers would be able to recognize that this was a political campaign. The complainant also fails to substantiate his allegation that he was forced to write texts in favor of the initiative. Furthermore, it would be advisable for Bon à Saovir to set out the editorial line in an editorial statute. Irrespective of this, however, this already resulted from the character of the consumer magazine. With regard to the dismissal of the complainant, it was a matter of testimony against testimony. A connection between the termination of the complainant's employment and the press council complaint had therefore not been established. However, if such a connection should exist, this would be a serious breach of professional ethics.

European Athletics Championships and World Class Zurich 2014: Aroma wins pitch

aroma-logo

Aroma won the pitch for the design and implementation of the VIP hospitality for both the 2014 European Athletics Championships and Weltklasse Zürich 2014 to 2016. The new event architecture was designed to be sustainable over the course of three years. Within a few days in August, Zurich will host the European Athletics Championships as well as the annual athletics meeting Weltklasse Zürich. As both events take place in the Letzigrund stadium, client Christoph Joho of Weltklasse Zürich decided that the hospitality area for both events would be designed, planned and implemented from a single source.

At both events, occasions will be held in three tent halls covering a total of 4,500 square meters. The facility will offer space for 1,800 guests. Whether it's a colorful and festive ambience at the European Championships or an emotional staging of the athletics world stars at Weltklasse Zürich, Aroma's design will give the two events a sporty and modern image. In addition to the creative concept, Aroma's proposal was convincing due to the sustainable use of the basic infrastructure.
